I feel safer knowing that, after the government stole all our personal information, companies like Twitter, Google and Facebook are finally upping security.

Following in the footsteps of other tech companies, Twitter is beefing up its security to make it harder for outsiders -- including the government -- to uncover data, the company announced Friday. Twitter has added forward secrecy, a security measure that uses temporary, individual keys to encrypt each Web session, instead of relying on a single master key.

I guess I should feel smug having had this implemented several years ago for my sites? If only IE supported a proper crypto suite I'd have hit across the board, but not my fault if you use an insecure browser.

Not after it is still ongoing. Perpetually ongoing. The NSA and CSIS will find other ways to your data including secret court orders.

In other news Canucks are doing to have to fight their own corrupted Government as well and again this time in the name of "cyberbullying".

All Fully NSA and CSIS backed no doubt.

They can try to justify anything as long as they can use the words "pedophile" and "terrorist".

Yeah this new bill kind of scares me, it's way too broad and is open to lot of abuse. I'm all for stopping cyber-bullying, but not with these measures. The government should not have their hands on the internet, period.

It's time for darknets to become standard. At least till they get into those too, which they will.

Also nobody should go to jail for ANYTHING done online. Jail is a very harsh environment for something that can be done with a few keystrokes.

I'm a little confused by this.

Isn't the entire purpose of Twitter to, well, make a brief statement to the open pubic with an account directly linked to each comment? Is there anything that Twitter can really hide that can't be discovered by "following" a target's twitter?

Or does Twitter offer some sort of email type service?

So if I cyber stalk you and your family to the point of having websites consistently put up with photos and your information. That shouldn't warrant jail time?

If someone looks up child porn, that's not worthy of jail time?

Eh ...

? are u serious ?
twitter, google and facebook are active agents of Homeland Security (i.e. data mining, [spying machine : data mining, relationship interface, locations...]) no need of a supoena for implementing legal and political pressure.
? upping security? nsa has mandated required backdoors in all public avail security (i.e. Snowden's leaked documents confirming collusion with tech firms to introduce backdoors and vulnerabilities to bypass cryptography encryption measures [flaws in the TLS protocol], kill switch for domestic internet and hard wired in cpu [intel since 2009], swiping keys directly from online service providers [bribe a system admin, infiltrate the org, nsa has direct access to company servers], Wikileaks posted product data sheets from the suppliers of wire-tapping and sub-sea cable interception systems.) The right to run telecoms-related services depends on allowing "lawful interception" of their technologies under the terms of the 2008 International Telecommunications Union's rules.
Criminals or other nation states could also exploit nsa-mandated backdoors in internet systems.

Well that is more involved than posting something like "you suck" on facebook, which is basically what this bullying law is trying to stop. Not to mention it can be abused, as one of the rules is you can only post someone's picture with their consent. How many times have you posted a picture taken in a public place, and there was random strangers in it? That will now be punishable with jail time. Seems a little harsh.

I think everything should be investigated as a case per case basis, and not have blanket legislations. Child porn cases are very particular and repetitive and warrant an investigation. A random person who views a child porn image a single time, less so, maybe it was an accident and he landed on it while searching for something else, for example. That's what I meant by a few key strokes. It's very easy to do something once or twice online either without realizing how bad it was, or completely innocent, by accident.
