While the concept is cool, there is no way this would work if every car and truck on the planet had this system. Also, why not just hardwire a camera from the front of the bus to a 40" LCD on the back? No computers, no Wi-Fi system needed, it's a fraction of the cost and everyone, even older cars, will be able to take advantage of that.

Option 2: You don't try to over take a bus on such a tiny fucking road. Seriously that street/road in the video didn't look like it was useful for two cars to be driving by each other much less passing a bus.

Damn the rules for passing are fairly simple you don't do it unless you can see ahead of you a significant distance, you edge out to look to see if it's clear, then go for it when you feel you have enough space in front of you and you recognize the acceleration limitations of your car.

Just like some of the new high-end cars that come with automatic braking systems, to avoid accidents.
I predict increase in these cars getting re-ended by cars with out this feature. The computer might be able to stop the car quickly, but I doubt the guy behind them will be able to react as fast as the computer.

How does it prevent the slower vehicle in front of you from speeding up as you're trying to pass?

Actually having a computer break for you when something comes in front is a lot better. No human will have the reaction time of a computer for stuff like that. Which is a good thing.

Not sure if having a broken computer is a good thing

+infinity

And he didn't even signal the merge back into the lane in front of the bus

Just like my GPS that keeps telling me to turn right when I'm on and elevated freeway. You have reached your destination turn left. The humongous Expo parking lot is on the right. POS

But then what do you expect from, "Microsoft Sync", the builders of WIN8. The other day the friggen woman tried to get me to go down a one way street, the wrong way.

Also the touch screen SUX. Nothing but finger boogers all over it. I liked the push buttons on the 2010 better, Yeah Ford. Okay, excluding the GPS I do like the Fusion.

Only if you're following too closely, which most people seem to do. "Oh, I'm doing 70 mph and I'm about 15' from your car. Yup, I can stop in time for anything!".

That tech looks really cool but it can be very dangerous. People could get lost in their thoughts while driving and forget they are behind someone since the road appears clear.

Heh...on Steve's proposed alternative with the fore-and-aft camera/40" TV rig, I'd be the first one to, on a trigger, to have a video loop of a big truck unexpected turning in front of me suddenly and hitting the brakes. I'd trigger it whenever some idiot was tailgating me...

What a stupidly complex solution for something that isn't that big of a problem. How often does this happen? How bad is it? How plausible is it for every car/bus to have this system?

All you need to do is stand back further from the bus so you can see past it. Once you get into the left lane you will easily be able to see if it is safe to continue passing.

Simple really.

Ford adaptive cruise control is cool as shit though. Set the speed you want to go and it will handle the rest. Car in front of you going slow? It'll pace it until it's out of the way and/or it speeds up.

Just use a high power laser to burn a viewport though the vehicle in front of you ...

Cool. So how long till I can rig up my car to be detected as a bus and stream hardcore porn to the asshat tailgating me?

I love those people. I watched one crash a few weeks ago when he was tailgating my rented minivan in the rain on the highway. Traffic in front slowed...I slowed...he tried to swerve onto an offramp to avoid me and ended up wrecking his car sliding into the curb. The guy was fine, so I left his stupid ass there.

As for this bullshit technology...pull to the side carefully and look around the vehicle. Fucking ridiculous.

I saw a better system than this that puts a display on back of big buses and cameras show u what is ahead without having to have it in every car.

Its sad..
Technology is replacing common sense.
We really need to ban this kind of crap just to weed out the ones we don't need breeding anymore.
"Oh, you were 5 inches off that bus's ass while trying to pass going uphill on a narrow 2 lane road with a solid double line? Maybe we shouldn't be trying to save you!"
