Microsoft Corp. on Tuesday announced it is hosting a series of midnight launch events at 10 Microsoft retail stores across the nation to celebrate the launch of Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2. Starting at 10 p.m. local time on Oct. 21, each participating store will host the Surface Challenge, offering contestants in each market a chance to go head-to-head in a series of fun, interactive and sometimes physical games for a chance to be whisked away to Orlando, Fla., the next morning for the Mall at Millenia store opening, where Pitbull will perform.

we burned 900mil on the 1st round to hell with it we will double down and not stop till the company is dead!!!

The only way they'll sell out of Saveface 2 devices is if they only produce a small number. Microsoft is not Apple and never will be no matter how hip and cool their executives think they are.

Hope they ship mine so it's delivered right on Oct. 21.

They need to stop listening to their marketing department:) Make a better product and consumers will buy it. The problem now is that everyone buys from the same shop... making it difficult to compete on price/features.

They really are trying obviously very hard. It's kind of sad hope obvious it is though.

The sooner they start selling them, the sooner they can initiate another multi-million dollar write-down.

What about selling out , they are not able to sell them coz there sold out?

Does Microsoft really think that having a Midnight release will build customer demand?

That is going to be the loneliest midnight opening in history.

Fake News: Microsoft will give out a free copy of Microsoft Office to the first 10 people in line for the new Surface tablet.

Next Day: Last night, 7 lucky people at Surface Launch Event walked away with a new Surface tablet and a free copy of Microsoft Office.

Does Microsoft really think that having a Midnight release will build customer demand?

My experience with Microsoft employees is they have a habit of believing their own hype. Group think would be another way to think of it. They really expect each product to amazing its customer base. (developers/prorammers) It is one thing for the marketing team to have such belief, but it can be problematic at the programmer level.

They need to attract the 15-24 age demographic.

This is who will be getting Surface's for Christmas, or they will get iPads.

They need to hire a fashion consultant or teen-band promoter.
