Okay, Mr. Amazon Corporation, you may be the world’s largest online retailer and own half of the world, but claims to the name ‘Amazon’ are off limits according to Brazil and Peru. The Amazon Cooperation Treaty, a collection of South American countries, has lodged complaints over the proprietary use of the name ‘Amazon’ as a brand name.

The Seattle-based company has applied for its brand to be a top-level domain name (currently .com), but the South American governments argue this would prevent the use of this internet address for environmental protection, the promotion of indigenous rights and other public interest uses.

How about we just keep it simple and forget about these idiotic TLDs altogether?

STFU & prevent the continuing rape of the world's lungs

South American governments can't even afford these domains. Perhaps that's what upsets them the most about these gTLDs.

They sound about as dumb as the brazilians you encounter in multiplayer games.

i dont quite understand why .amazon cant be comfortably shared.

seems like there would be very little overlap.

floresta.amazon vs kindle.amazon
