Intel Corporation executives held a press conference today to outline a plan to accelerate new mobile device experiences across the company's growing portfolio of smartphone, tablet and Ultrabook™ offerings. The announcements included a new smartphone platform for emerging markets, details on a forthcoming 22nm quad-core SoC for tablets, and more personal and intuitive Ultrabook™ devices in innovative convertible designs were outlined by Mike Bell, vice president and general manager of the Mobile and Communications Group, and Kirk Skaugen, vice president and general manager of the PC Client Group at Intel.
 
"Experiences" seriously? That does not actually mean anything.
 
Wifi built-in to the CPU sounds pretty interesting. System-On-Chip for real in the not-to-distant future.
 
Didn't Centrino have wi-fi on chip a year or two ago?

From someone typing from a laptop with a Centrino sticker on it (Sony Vaio VGN-FS920)...nope. :) Centrino was basically just a set of requirements from Intel to have a specific combination of hardware in a laptop. It was "chipset X, wifi NIC Y (mini-PCI), processor Z, and RAM...grr out of letters...I should have started at W...

Anyway, after a while it turned into the brand name of their WiFi network adapters, but it used to be a set of platform specifications so that, if it had a Centrino sticker on it, you knew it was basically all-Intel stuff. WiFi hasn't yet been commonly integrated into CPUs.
