Wait, just last week all the analysts said Microsoft was cutting production of the Surface, not ramping it up. Makes you wnder where all those analyst get their info.

Microsoft Corp has stepped up manufacturing of the Surface tablet, its new device designed to counter Apple Inc's iPad, and will introduce it to third-party retailers this week. The moves suggest Microsoft is seeing some demand for its first own-brand computer in the crucial holiday shopping season, although it has yet to divulge any sales figures. "The public reaction to Surface has been exciting to see," said Panos Panay, general manager of Microsoft's Surface project, which forms part of the company's Windows unit.

Surface Pro with an intel x86-64 processor or go home.

Not too far off, the Surface Pro will probably be my next. I do wish accessories would start becoming available like a desktop dock, Microsoft said that 3rd parties can make these types of things. Apple certainly has a great advantage in this department over everyone, including Android devices because of the huge volumes Apples sells of such few products.

I haven't even seen a MS tablet in Canada.

didn't think it was out in canada truth be told. Also... i seriously question what microsoft says sometimes...

oh.. ask yourself this... have u seen anyone with a surface RT yet?

I live close to Redmond...you know, where Microsoft has a semi-important campus and I haven't seen a Surface RT yet.

Analysts usually pull information out of their asses.

Their stupid 'analysis' also makes me lose money on stocks.

Yeah I haven't seen any with RT. Anytime I walk into Best Buy and Futureshop everyone is glued to the apple section. In all honesty I hate both but I just go in there to laugh at Surface and Windows 8 and ask how many returns they had so far.

Surface Pro is to god damn much for a disposable device. 400 bucks is my limit on something that I will most like throw out.

In Woodinville right now. Co-workers wife works for Microsoft. I still haven't seen one! :D

I'm going to the Microsoft campus Thursday. Still not sure if I'll see one then or not. :/ I think the first time will be when I'm in store.... Buying the damn thing!

Maybe there will be a massive firesale like the HP touchpads because no one wants these and they're producing a ton.

Not that I'd buy one even at $100, but still...

It's no more of a disposable device than any ultrabook with a sealed battery.

That just makes them both horrible and pricey.

I do hope Microsoft puts pressure on Android and Apple, though. More competition is never a bad thing

I hope you actually see one on the campus...they were supposed to be giving some of them out to employees, which is why it's so weird that they're so rare. I haven't even seen one in an Office Max/Staples or whatever yet and office supplies are my favorite things to randomly purchase when I'm bored.

Microsoft has been favoring their own stores and online distribution channels for selling these. They're basically trying to go all Apple-like but it ain't workin' out. There are quite a few Microsoft stores planned, but I'm not sure people will give a shit. Thus far they really haven't.

They don't go on sale at Staples until tomorrow, might be why you've not seen them there.

No, this wasn't at all Apple like, iPads have been available at 3rd party retailers since day one.

I think Ultrabooks are a waste as well. Surface pro is even more then an ultrabook. Sorry still a disposable device.

I'll take a cludge old laptop over either of those devices.

My Vostro 1000 agrees with this!

And so does the random, million year old Compaq Presario under it, but it would be kind of muffled when trying to agree with a gigantically heavy Dell laptop piled on top of it.

I'm pretty sure [H] prohibits the posting of pornography. Skribbels, you may want to blur what's actually going on there.

And nice Hello Kitty lunchbox.

I just don't get why they even want to do that since Microsoft just isn't a brand people get excited enough to go camping outside a store over. Okay, maybe there are a few really crazy people who might, but not to the same degree that Apple can and I don't think the stuffy business enterprise thing MS presents is really going to go away because we tend to expose people to Microsoft stuff through their work if they use a computer on the job.

Oh right, I fogot that you have employee discounts at Staples! ;)

Anything with a non replaceable battery shouldn't be over 500 dollars. Because in about a years time its going be worthless. I have a 4 year laptop that I replaced the battery, still works fine for me.

So you have never spent more than $400 on a laptop.

I never buy middle of the road.
I will buy high end or low end.
High End will last a long time Usually 1.5k and above.
Low end so I can trash it in a years time.

Middle of the road is what ultrabooks are not a frugal buy. Faster then a low end but not then a high end and they have no replaceable battery.

These days since I remote into a vdi or a rdp it defats the purpose of a high end laptop. So its the basic I can get away with. I rather take my money and put in retirement or more guns in my collection.

We have a couple floating around at work, but not officially supported by IT. I'm about 10 minutes outside of Redmond.

Then you have spent more than $400 on a disposable device, alot more.

Some serious pieces of shit, I can hook you up with my Staples employee discount.;)

This is a pretty big deal. I'm seriously interested in the Surface, but there isn't a Microsoft store within 200 miles of me.

My Phone is the most expensive 600. Still running my Windpad for 500 dollars and still runing my nook for 200. Windpad is kinda a regret buy my phone and nook have been stellar. I also don't consider my phone disposable.

All computer hardware is disposable just to a different degree.

But you said you buy $1500 laptops or did I misunderstand?

Any mobile device is disposable to the same degree. A laptop, phone any of it, they are all trash after 2 years since they are slow. You cant upgrade them in any meaningful way since the performance is always harnessed buy the mobo which determines the cpu / gpu which nearly never has any option to upgrade. All you can do is say well I accept lower standards longer.

You guys are crazy. What piece of technology isnt disposable in a few years?

Wait, you mean my 8800 that i spent full price on in 2006 is still perfectly awesome?

I know everything is disposable thats tech just to a different degree. 1 Year use is disposable to me.

My Phone is 1.5 years old still going strong I have no issues with it. My 4 year old laptop still does what I need it to do. My Q6600 and 470 still plays games I have no issues. Do I need something faster? Maybe, do I want to spend money on disposable item, no not really. I still rather have an AR15 over a computer anyday. Ironically I shoot the disposable electronics with my AR 15.

My last 1500 laptop has lasted me 4 years so technically speaking ROI is pretty damn good.
Bottom line is that I look at the ROI before anything else.

Yup, they're old/slow and either of them could be my only home computer and the world would be okay since all I do on them is post thoughtful, insightful things in this forum and check e-mail.

Hot laptop on laptop action

Ooooh! Laptop prawns FTW!

Man, the last time I saw an unsealed battery was one of those potato powered alarm clocks my friend had as a kid. Didn't think they were still being used much anymore :p
