Facebook To Offer Promoted Classified Ads?

If you ask me, this is a stupid idea and it will only succeed in pissing people off. First off, no one wants to see used couch ads in their news feeds. Secondly, if I wanted to let people know I had something for sale via my Facebook page, I would just post it. Why would I pay to promote it? FAIL all the way around on this idea.

Facebook is testing a new service that might make Craigslist a thing of the past. Two sources within Facebook, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, have independently told The Daily that development of a classifieds project is on a fast track, not just as a way to not just engage its millions of users but also as a way of allowing them to engage each other.

I remember the debacle that was timeline and how many (including myself) weren't too keen on adopting it. Facebook as a business clearly did what they felt they had to do, but it felt like timeline was this grand idea that would roll out the Facebook IPO into this grand scheme of wealth and awesomeness.

Now that the pixie dust has worn off and the IPO isn't doing so well, every week I see more and more scary stuff about "ideas" that Facebook has... I am almost starting to miss Myspace, ugh!

Well wouldn't paying to promote it, spread the news outside of your list of friends who read your posts? Course, I'd just use craigslist for that.

I haven't had a single political ad show up on Facebook. Mine are all "meet these hot single women", "play these Zynga games", or "some kind of FPS game (MoH Warfighter/Crysis 3" ads.

You old enough to vote?

I take it you search for a lot of porn and browse gaming websites a lot :p

Good thing everyone has stopped using Craiglist because they'd rather pay and now there is this giant niche to fill,

Old enough to vote since 99.

That's the weird thing, I have no idea where it gets these things. I do surf the pr0n, but I haven't browsed any gaming websites in like a year. Wonder if it just detects that I have Steam or something.

I play a web-based F2P game, read Japanese girl idol blogs, download manga, download WRC videos, browse Facebook about 15 mins a day, and not much else. Hell, only time I post in here is at work.

I get the same ads. I only use IE for facebook....all my other browsing is via firefox. My guess is these ads are based on age, relationship status, etc.
