Another great idea ruined by monetization. No one wants a "want" button to tag retail crap on Facebook...well, maybe the Victoria's Secret pics will get tagged a lot, but you know what I'm saying. :D

Facebook said it is working with seven retailers, including Pottery Barn and Victoria's Secret, to test the new feature that will allow certain users to flag images of desired products by clicking a special "want" button.

more crappy pictures on your front page and blocking what sometimes just good joke or funny pic up there.

Shrug, I dont even use facebook, but I cant see the problem here it actually makes alot of sense. You can use this to give people hints about what you might want for a gift, you can use it to show support for products you think are good. Having a "want" list that is on a website not tied to any particular store is less bias and since tons of people have facebook it will surely take off in the same way the like button killed digg.

Anything that gives a positive choice should give a negative choice as well. Wish there was a dislike button, or a "do not want" button.

Seems like facebook polarizes toward the corporate world every day that passes while the users get nothing in return except... what, timeline? I foresee mass exodus at some point. But to where hmm...

If the want button appears below people and not just products, it might work.

To the next big social network that emerges, just like the Myspace-Facebook transition.

You can only like and want things on Facebook. Dislike and unwantedness are tantamount to heresy to the high church of the Zuck. I'm pretty tired of hearing, "Like us on Facebook" or "follow us on Twitter" everywhere. Hopefully their furthering of corporate interests will further their downward spiral into spam accounts and user apathy.

If they don’t like it, then you will have a mob of 50 people descend on your home, like that one guy had. Then the police take you away, and put you in jail for 12 weeks. (When he gets out, they will probably kill him.)

They should have a "Have" button to go with the "Want" button.

Want! ... Buy! ... More!

The first thing that came to mind reading this was the WALL-E movie...

Yup...

The teens and early twenty-somethings I know seem to view Twitter as the "new" social network to focus on, but everyone here is well-aware that Twitter isn't especially new or up-and-coming, so I really don't know. In the meantime, Facebook still seems to have a lot of activity despite general user discontent. People have a lot invested into it in terms of their friend networks and uploaded photos, but Facebook can only rely on their inertia alone for so long.

I'd like to think a free and decentralized social network will eventually replace the current centralized corporate data mining model, but few people seem to be bothered by Facebook's abject creepiness, so it would really have to offer something better on top of "mere" privacy and user control.

Me too. Very tired of seeing that blue/white F every frigging where.

Isn't the point they are at now disgusting to the real zuck? He should do a cobain in his annoyance of commercialism.

Someone should do one with the F in zuck.:D

Do you think that it is possible that these sites could be treated as some kind of a social disease, at some point?

maybe the Victoria's Secret pics will get tagged a lot, but you know what I'm saying. :D

Will this website ever get out of the stone age and stop making sexual, female degrading references in nearly every headline story?
