This article recommends people showing any of the following signs should consider getting professional help. I'm already signed up and I saved some spots for you guys too! :D

  • 1.“Spending a lot of time trying to get as much information as possible about the person,” Meyers said in an interview with ABC News’ “20/20.” Are you missing deadlines or canceling social plans because of long Web-surfing sessions and-or constant monitoring of the person’s social media posts?
  • 2.“Your stalking behavior is done in secret,” Meyers said. This means lurking on sites, leaving no trace you were there, like a comment on a post, for example.
  • 3.“Using multiple social media sites to get as much information as they can,” Meyers said, characterized as a “hunt” compelled by a deep-seated insecurity. “The root of it is about feeling that this other person has something that you don’t,” he said. “You’d feel more complete if you have what they have.”

I used to be a moderator at a car forum. Sometimes noobs would come it and stir up shit, brag about how awesome they were. We would put on our internet detective hats and figure out everything we wanted to know about them, and let them know their crap would not be tolerated. Stalking? No just removing the anonymous from "anonymous asshat".

They need help? But, employers can do it all the time and fire employees or not hire someone because of the dirt they find.

And, I don't consider it stalking. It's research. :D

This reminds me of that video clip that got posted online of a girl throwing a box of puppies into a river one by one. Supposedly a bunch of 4Chan guys were able to figure out who the girl was by locating exactly which river she was at.

Anyone got any more info on that?

guilty.

it use to be hard, but now in the world of social media, its so much easier.

I know this has happened more than once on somethingawful.com.

But how will I know if she likes chocolate or flowers as a gift?
How will I know where she'll be at lunch so I can stop by to say hi?
How will I know what she did on her last birthday that I wasn't invited to?
How will I know if she is still seeing her BF/husband?
How will I know where she lives?
How will I know anything about her if I can't follow her online?

That has happened here a couple times. :D

There is at least 1 legendary thread in the Cars/Motor vehicles section of Genmay dealing with that very thing.

I call BS on #2. Stalkers leave nothing to show they were there like comments? The worst stalkers are the ones that go around posting behind you everywhere. You know the ones I'm talking about.

The moral of the story is : Stop posting personal information about yourself on the public internet.

You wouldn't post pages from your diary on a public billboard so why would you do the same on the public internet?

Stalkers aside, employers can and do research the internet for your online presence before hiring you. So think carefully before posting those drunken party pictures of yourself on the public internet for everyone to see.

I don't get:

Psychology is so much BS. How can Meyers possibly substantiate this? 'sides, it's not my fault I have hot classmates and they post provocative images of themselves all over the internet. :D

I stalk things online but not people unless you count porn.

In that case I am the stalker of boobs.
