If you are concerned over Internet cybersecurity and the various bills that have failed to make it to vote on the subject, you may want to give this leaked draft of the Executive Order a read. This is merely a draft and carries no weight in itself, but gives great insight as to what may be coming soon.

Honestly, looking this over, you get the sense that it's really designed to do one thing: scare those who fought against the various bills back to the table to compromise and get a bill out.

Sorry but any law not passed by Congress is Unconstitutional. Try again.

Executive Orders have been sidestepping that for years. They're an abused power.

When you say "years" you do mean all the way back to George Washington right? He was the first President to start using Executive Orders. Seems like he was the first at something else as well.

So, what horribly freedom-restricting laws did George Washington put into effect that were not good for the country?

Not sure, little difficult to find. He only did 8 though. Here's a good list of numbers for each president.

George's first one was to "make a clear account" of the various offices in his administration. It was 3 months after he became president. By the looks of it, they ballooned between the Civil War and the end of World War II. After that, it's rather been quiet.

In any case, Obama's haven't been any more encroaching than many other Presidents. I still like when Bush, Jr. had us basically annex outer space. That was fun. Also wasn't an executive order, just a "policy change".

I like outer space. It's pretty quiet and no one talks endlessly on their phone once you get past like Mars or so.

Nope. Nothing good has come from the government for a while though. Exaggeration, I'm sure, but probably not too far from the truth.

If the Executive branch is trying to motivate the drafting of an Amendment to the Constitution stating no executive orders that create laws shall bypass ratification of Congress, then he is on the right path. Do we wait for Congress to draft this or do we form Constitutional conventions?

So he's basically writing up an executive order that's basically the same or worse than bills that failed, because of huge public opposition. It looks like he's planning on loosing the upcoming election in a big way.

All governments should just leave the internet alone.

You can't believe evrything you read so close to an election, especially when a party is so desperate it claaims will do everyhing in its power to ensure a one term president and their vice presidential candidate can give a national televised speecch with more holes than swizz cheeze with a straight face. Too vague, I call bs scare mongering propaganda until some credible proof can back this up.

You mean the Democrats?

You mean the Democrats?

it could be Dems looking to score some donations from the media industry, Reps looking to scare otherwise intelligent people into voting against their best interest, the website looking to increase web traffic, anarchist that just want to see the world burn, etc....not saying any of those scenarios or whatever your imagination can come up with is not plausible, but until there is any form of concrete proof or someone in a credible position vouches for this, then it's nothing more than fear mongering. Just because alot of people want it to be true, doesn't mean it is.
