Sharp announced today that the company will cut its worldwide workforce by about 10% starting in Japan with the voluntary retirement of its older workers. About 2000 workers will retire through this reduction in an effort to reduce costs. An additional 2400 jobs will be eliminated outside of Japan by March 2013.

A statement released by the Osaka-based company explained it planned to shed the jobs – which amount to just over 6 percent of its 30,800 domestic workforce – through a voluntary retirement program

That's big news and really strange since Japan is kinda into its elders. I find it odd that they think their older workforce isn't as Sharp and are looking to retire them.

Lets see who are the big panel mfg's out there?

#1 Samsung
#2 Sharp
#3 LG

Samsungs are pricey, but they are the market leader due to their high quality panels. It seems Sharp made a few bad bets on the way (like 4 element RGBY pixels)
