Legit Reviews has a team on the ground in Los Angeles to cover this year's E3.

Over the next three days, Legit Reviews will be on hand to give you a closer look at this Mecca for gamers. We will be concentrating on the hardware-side of things, but as always, we will bring to you what we think will be the hottest software titles for 2012. Of course Nintendo is making big news with the formal introduction of the Wii U, but Sony and Microsoft aren’t done as there are many people here talking about a possible announcement of new hardware by the holidays – can you say Xbox 720 or PlayStation 4?

Clearly because they were announced yesterday at the Microsoft/Sony press conferences.
 
gah, no edit and pressed enter too soon.

Add to that the lackluster announcements of sequels and prequels, regurgitation of the same game announcements/"previews" between Sony/EA/Ubisoft/Microsoft. And considering Nintendo is up next, why wouldn't Sony or MS steal the attention from Nintendo by announcing the consoles beforehand?
 
PS Vita was a let down. They're making it sound like it's purpose in life is as an add on for the PS3 lol.
