Last week Verizon announced that it was boosting speeds on FiOS internet plans, but stopped short on the details as to pricing and rollout date. Thanks to an employee (or maybe an ex-employee by now) :D the details have been filled in for us.

Still, we suspect the power users out there will be happy with Verizon's pricing for its high-speed plans — it looks like many of those users will see increased speeds without any change in price come June 17th.

Data limits at all? Here in Canada, we'd probably get ... 25GB?

Sad, but true.

Didn't Verizon stop expanding because they were focusing of wireless? What is the point of this speed boast if you can't deliver it to people?

That and what the mart20012 about the data cap.

Where are you getting data caps from, and where the hell are you getting the notion that Verizon can't deliver their speeds?

I think Verizon rolled out new capped plans for wireless and mentioned in the same breath that FiOS was getting modified. There's no cap on FiOS and I hope there never will be. I told Comcast when I left that yes, I WILL pay more money to their competitor which doesn't artificially limit my internet usage.

I upgraded to the 25/25 from 15/5 (after a week, :D) and now I get even MORE downstream speed? WIN.

Yawn ..............

I'm moving to Kansas City in about 6 months. Google Gigabit Internet. They are now going to also have HDTV service now. Can't freaking wait.

You know Google won't have limits.

(sorry I posted similar ramblings on two topics)

Move to Sebastapol, CA (just north of San Fran) 1Gbps fiber exists there, $70 a month, or the Sunset in San Francisco, fiber will be there by the end of the year, or the entire city perhaps in 5 years.. (big perhaps on that :D)

Either way, moving to Kansas for fiber... I mean I guess if you have fiber you never really need to leave your home and that's probably a benefit .

Only a $5 discount for a 2-year agreement? That's kinda lame.

Plus, 15/5 for $64.99 a month is kinda crazy when I can get Comcast 30/5 for like $29.99/mo.

fios is a different set up though you'd likely get better pings all around in fios vs cable and esp at&t's vdsl which i have to use now due to them "upgrading my area" from adsl2+. I'd move to comcast but they have such shitty record for stability in my area.

really? What does your isp give you? i live in albeta and shaw gives me 25/1.5 with a 400gb cap. Not amazing speeds but I dont dl that much and i'll never hit that cap lol

Would I like more speed? yes
But my phone + Internet is $113/mo right now.

So its just not worth it to me. I can download a
Linux ISO in about 25 minutes. If my life is really
that important and unable to wait 30 minutes, then
I'll also have the money to do that.

300mb is just stupid fast and nobody can justify that cost
that doesn't host porn.

There, I said it. FIOS top tier is for porn hosting................................................

goddamn I'm already seeing 5-6Mbps down on my current setup which I believe is 25/25. My god, I'm never moving away from my current residence. XBMC, Couch Potato, Sickbeard, and Fios have been kind to me. What can people expect with 75/35? I mean 300 is crazy

My GF and I work from home. She has a few dozen clients that have to have reports updated weekly with a fair amount of video and pics per client. So she does a lot of backup. She has a business fiber line,15Mbit or about 1.7 Meg down a second Gigabit will help her a lot.

so the bottom tier see no increase in speed, but an increase in price.
incredibly lame. so we dont feel raped, we'll have to upgrade to the 75$ service.

GG verizon.... gg.

We have 18/0.5 and 70GB limit for 55$. With another company, we could get 200/30 with 200GB/50GB for the low low low price of 200$ a month. Ridiculous.

When I see you guys talking about nice speeds for decent prices, I cry a little inside.

Pretty much. My guess is that eventually data caps will show up as well, I think it's just a matter of when, not if.

I've personally spoke to several high level Verizon Employee's that work at Corporate and they've told me that FiOS will remain a capless service since they will have a very hard time justifying selling caps to their customers and shareholders after advertising so heavily that a Fiber Optic network will not require it and that speed increases (and thus price increases on those speeds) will actually net them quite a bit more money.

Even if Verizon heads changed their tunes they are focusing mostly on staying competitive with the FiOS brand and expanding LTE , FiOS caps would be pointless right now and take away a large amount of the appeal to customers now that caps are such a touchy issue.

I'm not surprised the 300Mbps tier is a hundred more per month , but since I already have the 150/65 Ultimate package 2 year contract It'll supposedly only be a minor increase per month to get the 300/65.

Well by minor I mean paying for anything better would cost thousands per month.

Holy crap. NOT A GOOD DEAL if you are a Frontier Fios customer. I hope to hell now that Frontier leaves their pricing plans the hell alone.

We are getting 35/35 month to month, no other services, for $56.

Looks like I'll be upgrading my FIOS service soon. :)

I've had the 20/5 services for several years and It's been great, but I really want faster upload speeds.

25/2 with 2 statics for $80 a month with no cap here in SK.

I love Verizon internet. So much better than anything I have used. In the DFW area they only covered Ft Worth and Dallas proper, so my parents got it at their home, but when I moved to Arlington, its a choice of At&t and TWC, which are both stupidly over-priced and under-performing (I pay for a 20meg line but only get maybe 2-3) At&t wanted $225 to come and place a wall socket in my apartment.

honestly, the day America gets more providers, the better off we will all be. We over-pay so damn much for wireless/internet/cable.

I currently have 25/25 right now and for the same deal on the triple play thing I can get 50/20 for the same rate. Will they automatically upgrade you to the new tier on the 17th. I would wait but I afraid the promotion will change by then.

Yea Frontier is awful from what I hear. But Verizon and Frontier are not the same service so whatever Verizon decides to do has nothing to do with Frontier's business model.

As of right now Frontier is trying to sell off its customer base that it bought from Verizon. They've been charging huge fees for taking on new customers (something like a $500 install fee for starters) and have been talking about imposing caps , increasing prices and even reducing infrastructure to save money and discourage customer growth.

It really sounds like they are trying to run their service into the ground and be done with it.

Frontier's customer service is a big fat zero...

But the connection is awesome.

All things considered in this economy and the way things could go I'll be just thrilled if they don't change a thing for the next few years.

So my 25/25 plan is getting upped to 50/25...yes please! One more reason not to move from NJ to NC.

Yes... I will be upgrading to 150/65 myself. I loathe having to call in and talk to their customer care folks though to make the upgrade... Wonder what they will fuck up on my bill

Not necessarily. I get 6ms pings consistently from my cox cable.

My hopes are that this forces the hand of Cox to increase speeds. They have upgraded to docsis 3, which I believe is good for up to 100mbps. Might be more.

And for heavens ske, get rid of the 3mbps upstreams :(

I wonder what my 35/35 plan is getting upgraded to...
Rumor has it that the 35/35 will become 75/35

As our insider had correctly stated, Verizon's symmetrical 25 Mbps tier will soon be changed to 50 Mbps downstream and 25 Mbps upstream. The company's current symmetrical 35 Mbps tier will soon see a dramatic bump to 75 Mbps downstream and 35 Mbps upstream. Verizon's also introducing a whopping 300 Mbps downstream, 65 Mbps upstream tier for users in GPON-enabled markets. There's no pricing being announced yet, but Verizon says they'll do so in June when the tiers go live.

Thanks for posting this. Since 50/20 is getting a bump, I will be calling my office in a week to see about upgrading, even if I have to pay $100 for some idiot to come to my house and sit on hold with his office to read off some settings. 150/65 for the same price as 50/20 per month? Count my black ass in!

I currently pay 59.99/mo for the FiOS 15/5... if that's going up to 69.99.... would it be worth going to the 50/25 plan for 74.99? Will I get even lower pings in BF3? Or will this just let me download things faster?

Vancouver != Canada ;-)

Yes, some major cities have pretty good packages, but even here in Ottawa it sucks.

I was surprised with that price though.
Here in Virginia, Cox as a 50 meg package and it's $90/mo for one year and then $130/mo.

So low of a ping that your in the negatives.

Planning to move to Tampa where fios is available, I'm eyeballing that 75/35 real hard at this point. Coming from south Louisiana where I have 6/0.384 DSL, comcast cable is available and faster, but when I tried it the speed dropped to 1mbps with 200+ pings from 5pm-11pm every day, and tech support acted like they had no idea what I was talking about and wouldn't send anyone after 5pm to check it. Usually ping around 40ms on the DSL to game servers in texas (there are basically none in South LA), expecting that to go to 5-10ms. Can't freakin wait.

Changing your speed tier will likely have no effect on your ping times

Since Ive had FIOS, Ive gone from 25/25 to 35/35 and I now have the 150/35 and my pings have remained the same
