While something like this isn't likely to happen to any of you, we all have friends and family members that will be calling us for free tech support because the government is "after them." ;)

In order to unlock their computer, the victim is instructed to pay a $100 fine to the US Department of Justice using prepaid money card services. The payment service options presented to the victim are based on the geographic location of their IP address. For example, users with US IP addresses must pay using MoneyPak or Paysafecard.

Kinda funny that people can't distinguish the difference between the criminals and the government.

Comon! They could have at least provided a larger more complete picture.

That has been going round for over a month now. It adjusts the scary sounding police warning to one that is local to your country. It's just a simple pop-up dropped into the victim's start menu.

I bet it is still full of typing and grammar errors like most scareware spyware.

You'd think it would be easy to bust the people doing this, since they're asking for payment. Just follow the money.

??

so, the people getting scammed have to pay into a registered account? how long exactly before these guys are arrested?
