You can bet money that YouTube's lawyers are already drafting an appeal.

"The platform operator only has the obligation to block the video ... and take appropriate measures to hinder further rights violations after being notified about the copyright violation," the court said. "There is no obligation to control all videos already uploaded to the platform," it added.
 
I think GEMA are out of their minds, but good sense never did well with copyright a courtroom.

It might actually send a message if they sued the German government in friendly courts every time a German dared trespass on their private property. ;)

It wouldn't actually work of course. :p The irony is that all of this copyright extremism isn't even coming out of Germany in the first place. It's being pushed on the entire world by the US government on behalf of the US copyright lobby.
