I guess there really is no honor among thieves after all….or hackers for that matter. Someone in the Anonymous camp inserted a Trojan in the DDoS software to steal the hackers own private information.

So congratulations script kiddies, I'm sure the satisfaction of knocking a few websites offline for a couple of hours in that online tantrum was totally worth opening your collective wallets to the Internet

This is great!

"HURP DURP! I'm gonna download this here DDoS app and press "Start" I'm such a skilled haxx0r now. EXPECT US etc. etc."

Then this. Priceless.

All kinds of karma biting them in the ass:

I m not against anon and i am not a fan of them, thats because you can never be sure if it really is them or anyone else just sayin its them (i guess they kinda wanted that). But i really cant see why they are hated so much here. My guess? Psychology of the flock? I dont see any other reason. Tell me what exactly did they do to hurt you or cause you trouble? Is it trendy and cool to hate em without enough evidence to judge?

they get hate becuase they use broad approaches to their attacks. they are a zealot type group who don't care who they hurt as long as they get their message across. A "there will be friendly casualties and their is nothing we can do about it" type of attitude. They hurt plenty of innocent people just to prove points.

As I understand it, people that matter see them as an insult to the way the scene used to be. They are flying the AntiSec flag, but they don't even know what it means.

The collective sum is worse than script kiddies because at least script kiddies used to know how to edit, compile, and run c scripts or modify a perl script for their uses.

More importantly, they have no sense of history. They are a blob of people with very little security knowledge and even their best have typically been a few high-level code monkeys with basic sql injection experience. There's nothing to respect, they're just DDoSing people or SQL injecting public websites. They have not made one attack with a zero day of their own, and if they ever do they will probably have received that attack vector from someone else.

That's just my understanding of some of the gripes against them though. I don't particularly care... except about the antisec thing. That's a bit shitty.

Are we supposed to applaud people who break the law and steal, to try and further there own agenda without any concern for people caught in the crossfire? No question there are innocent and hardworking people have lost much do to this groups activities. People hate Politicians for the same reasons....

Have you been sleeping under a rock. Or simply turning a blind eye to the bystanders that they willingly trampled on. Releasing peoples personal information and then claiming it's for their own good is simply neurotic.

So Anonymous is no longer anonymous? Finally a story about these kiddies worth hearing. I hope the Feds lock 'em up.

What's the first rule you learn about downloading things from the internet? Anyone that got infected in this manner got exactly what they deserve. I imagine most were also too stupid to run their attacks from a sacrificial box as well, so someone's either going to suck what little funds they have dry, or if it's the Feds that planted the virus they'll the info gathered later on in a sting operation. If nothing else the trustworthiness of the hack tools has been compromised, so there's going to be panic, infighting, and recriminations. Absolutely delicious. :p

So, assuming this info gets to the correct hands, we now have a complete suspect list?

Awesome. :D

Mwh I think the bigger news is that Symantec discovered the vulnerability.

Hahahaha! This is priceless.

But...apparently it comes with a big price...for anyone stupid enough to patronize with anonymous. :D

lmao are they actually using premade tools for this stuff? I thought they'd be smart enough to code their own tools. especially for a DDoS attack. Not really hard to pull off. I coded a basic app when I was a kid, until I realized it was illegal. It was fun crashing IIS servers with too many packets. :p

Maybe its partially because they stole bank/account information from the idiots/fans/supporters who decided to run a DDos attack on anonymous's behalf?

Correction, should be more like this:

they get hate becuase they use broad approaches to their attacks. they are a zealot type group who don't care who they hurt as long as they get their account information of their supporters. A "there will be friendly casualties (idiots who support us) and their is nothing we will do about it, except to make sure we steal account info from our fan base in the process" type of attitude. They hurt plenty of innocent people just to profit

always fun to bag on anon, but then there is stuff like this

http://arstechnica.com/business/new...wn-darknet-child-porn-site-on-tor-network.ars

funny how actions like these never get any mainstream attention

Actually that got a lot of attention back when it happened. It was also a contentious even back then because many people thought that "taking out" a child porn site wasn't actually benficial to anyone or protecting anyone. eg. I'd rather see the pedos in jail instead of retreating because their sites are getting taken down.

Sounds like someone is making sure they have something to bargin with if they get arrested, like all the other names of Anonymous members....

The amount of misinformation about this is reaching actual COINTELPRO levels. "Anonymous" didn't get hacked. Someone created a pastebin and put a trojan'ed megaupload file reference of their own in. This didn't happen on any of Anon's IRC networks, nor by any "commanding" sysops or anything else. Even worse, this came from a handful of shitty Twitter accounts linking to the offending paste. This is no different than anyone else following a phished link to a trojan, sent by a non-related entity. Those who didn't use the megaupload link (or even, used the correct one) were not vulnerable.

All this proves is what most people actually involved in Anonymous operations know already - use open source verifiable tools and watch your back with proprietary shit.
