I will post my Ivy Bridge build of the V700 here, using these fine parts, most of which I already have:

1. Dell U2312HM 23" E-IPS Display (With inexpensive video cables/adapters, I'm set up to take Displayport for PC, DVI to HDMI for PS3, and VGA to component for cable HDTV - Aspect ratio is perfect as it is 16/9 already, super low lag!!)

Just waiting till April for Ivy Bridge and the V700 to build. Here is hoping the V700 has some room behind the mobo for nice Cable-Fu and that the side panels don't feel cheap with that plastic clip mounting method they went with. I'm getting the all black with window version. I'm going to replace that window with a nicer material, perhaps gorilla glass (if that's even possible)!!

another shot(not the final one)

edit: just saw your second comment, I have the same speakers and sound card and also planing for the 3770K with an Asus mobo and Intel SSD and hoping I can fit the H100 (will do something to make the fans pwm) in this case, Seasonic X is great but I think the AX850 has nicer cables (they also have a pre-sleeved ones now). oh and trying to wait kepler

First thing I'm gonna do... take out the PCI and disc drive tool-less bits! They are the best tool less parts around, but I like old fashioned thumb screws a bit more. Then I'm gonna see just how many fans I can fit on that H100 in the V700!! Seems weird to have a V series case without wheels!!

BTW, If anyone at Lian Li wants to sponsor me with a free PC-V700WX, I'll blog away all day for it!!

This thread will be kinda dull until April when the V700 and Ivy Bridge comes out. Pass the time with this fairly awesome music video, gives me chills every time when Kimbra sings in Gotye's face (at 2:45):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UVNT4wvIGY

Its so awesome, it spawned an equally cool cover of five ppl playing one guitar by Walk Off The Earth!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d9NF2edxy-M&feature=related

... Which in turn spawned a The Key of Awesome video parody!! We need Tony!! For the plinky noise!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IwPHy17Iu6E

Its like Inception... Three layers deep!!

Smallish form factor, room for a ATX mobo, H100 and a coming with a windowed version. This looks to be the case for my next build.

Nice information. I have been having the itch to upgrade but am trying to wait for this to come out. Was considering the A05N but will probably wait for this.

Upgrades I'd like to do but I'm pretty sure its not worth the trouble:

1. Sell my Seasonic X Series 850 Watt PSU, get the Seasonic Platinum Series 860 Watt PSU (Not sure it even matters).

2. Sell my Asus ROG Series Maximus IV Extreme-Z Mobo, get an Asus ROG Series Ivy Bridge Mobo (For what? Native USB 3 I don't use? PCI 3 I don't need?).

3. Sell my MSI GTX 580 Lightning 3GB GPU (This one is nicer than most 580s IMHO), get a GTX 680 from the same MSI series (heat and temps would be my only incentives, I have plenty of GPU power already).

However, will I even notice the above upgrades at all? My gut tells me to wait for a real improvement or difference.

I'm already switching around the CPU, CPU Cooler, and the PC Case, and finally adding a very much missed Intel SSD (my last SSD, the Intel G2 80GB, was sold half a year ago with my old system) but those were more or less desired upgrades without question... I'm sold on the V700, ditching huge cases for good. I finally have a case that supports the H100, so I'm not leaving that out, the H80 I had was too sweet. And I specifically bought the cheaper 2500K i5 over the 2600K i7 to one day upgrade to an Ivy Bridge i7.

I'm having less success validating upgrades for the Mobo, GPU, or PSU - No matter how much they catch my eye. If I were buying new, I'd go for those new products - But I'm just getting too responsible to feel good about upgrading just because my parts were bettered slightly.

Still, I love to have the latest gear. Perhaps dad needs some upgrades for his Birthday and Xmas! And I don't always follow my own advice at that.

looks pretty good--sorta confused on how the power supply fits... where does the cable to the wall socket go?

The power supply goes in the bottom front, the extension cord lets the power cable still go out the back of the case. The PSU exhaust path goes from the bottom front of the case to the front vented panel and exhausts. The case should have instructions to basically intake from the top and the rear, exhausting via the front 140mm fan, right next the drive cage. And if not, that's the way I intend to run it anyway.

I like the play on R2-D2 / Core2-D2.

LOL at getting sponsored. You can't contact anyone at Lian Li for ANY reason. Extra parts, warranty issues, nothing!

Case is very similar to old V600 with some changes. Only issue is you can't fit high performance GPUs in the case AND a power supply to match. Either short GPU or short power supply....

The V700 is much more like the A05N than the V600. The V700/A05N both have the front PSU and reversed air flow direction, the V600 seems to be just a MATX case with the PSU placed where the bottom 4 slots in an ATX config would be. As MATX only has the 4 PCI slots, it's smaller than an ATX case. By contrast, the A05N and V700 can both handle ATX boards in a small footprint by moving the PSU to the front and reversing the air flow, making them the true innovators.

ok, i see it now. interesting idea to have the intake from the rear... similar to the new pc-100 in that respect. i'm curious to see how well that works with a completed build.

and good job noticing the r2-d2 connection... won't be long before people won't even remember what a core2 is. :D

Here is what I noticed. The V700 seems to be designed to be small and get creative like the A05N. However, other aspects are different as they are seemingly allowed just enough space to breath (besides the A05N having an inverted Mobo). Look at these shots here:

It seems as though a single GPU could span the entire case if that SSD cage is removed. The V700 has a total reported depth of 496mm with a maximum GPU length of 440mm (which is over 17" BTW), which means the GPU does not span the entire case, that measurement must be to that HD cage or to the just under that attachable SSD cage... but why make the SSD cage removable at all? For easy installation sure, but another answer must be because that is where the first GPU usually goes, so if you have an extra long one, I'm betting it will slot right in there between the HD cage and the top of the PSU.

Assuming you are indeed suppose to run the three back/top fans as intakes (which I would want to do for positive pressure anyway), and the front panel as an exhaust for the case and the PSU, then you need to address another weakness of this case. The one thing most likely to turn ppl away from the V700... the GPU cooling, its not ideal at all. There is unused floor space below the GPU for another intake fan, a nice circle saw mod could do wonders for GPU cooling. Lian Li should of used floor fans instead of those two floor HD mounts. Personally, I may use a PCI slot cooler from Lian Li.

I wouldn't bother with Lian Li's PCI-bracket intake/exhaust systems, I feel like they do more harm than good. I had a BS-06, or whatever the 140MM version is called, and it did next to nothing. As you mentioned I would much rather cut two holes for 120MM fans in the floor and invest in the same casters found on the V1020 than waste money on the BS-08. The V700 is a very handsome thing though, juggling my next case candidates between the V1020 or this. It's a damn shame Lian Li decided to never do anything about fixing the V600F.

However, one thing I sure as hell wish Lian Li did again was the knurled edges found on the side panels from the original V-series cases...that was classy.

Circle saw it is. I Don't want to cover up my PCI slots anyway, I was just looking at my board, and the Lian Li PCI slot cooler would basically remove all free expansion slots from use. And that is only using a single GPU and sound card. If I wanted that, I would just go MATX. I can buy some black Lian Li wheels for fun, then bask in the shortness of it all. The V700 is only 400mm high (15.74"), by contrast the X2000F is 768mm high (30.23"). The V700 is scary small, no more extra disc drive bays I will never use, less wasted interior space, supports the H100, and has a massive maximum GPU length of over 17", its worth a circle saw rental to get the GPU cooling right! Should be able to put two more intakes on the floor.

I've had the Lian Li V1000/B10/X900/X1000/X2000F, Silverstone TJ10/TJ11/FT02, and Cooler Master Sniper Black/Haf X - all in my hands at one point or another. None have been perfect. I'm still looking for just the right case. I don't like the V1020 as the GPU space is only 305mm long, does not work with the H100, and the interior is not all black. I had the X2000F recently and it was very very nice, but too big, too many blank disc drive bays to cover up (seven bay covers plus my one disc drive, which is all I ever use), and no H100 Support. There were other things I didn't like about the X2000F, but those were more personal. It just was not my cup of tea.

The V700 looks to beat them all, without being the most expensive I've ever owned. It fixes all my main issues with the X2000F, I just hope the small details are done right. Things like cable space behind the mobo, how secure those side panels are with those plastic clips, and overall feel of quality.

The way Lian Li has the fans set up in those pics is front fans are intake, top fans are exhaust and rear fan is also exhaust. Not sure how that is reverse airflow?

Wonder if my E-ATX Classified board would fit in this case along with AX1200?

I suppose you could reverse it on your own, I did think it was like the A05N tho. Made sense to me.

beautiful case....

1st PC I ever built was in a Lian-Li. I'm going to keep my eye on this one, only wish the made the windowless version w/ black interior.

Anyone have any idea of the pricing structure? Particularly the WX version? Google doesn't show any results.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was in the $200+ area. The V600 dropped at $200+ and the V700 doesn't look as complicated to manufacture as the V600, but is larger which would make up for the difference. Wishful thinking hopes for around $150 but that is highly unlikely.

This is going to be one loud case, but I guess that's not a priority here.

My guess is $229.99 for the all black with window, black will be $220.00, silver $210.00

This is indeed a beautiful case... great functionality, size, I'm sure build quality is great too.

I'm a little baffled by one thing though - the airflow. From the pics, it looks like it's set up as follows:

rear - exhaust
top - exhaust
bottom - intake
front - both?

Looks to me like the PSU is pulling in from the bottom and exhausting out the front. The front case fan looks like it's an intake as well... wouldn't all the PSU hot air be exhausted, rise, and be pulled in by the front intake? It's short circuiting the air flow. All your PSU exhaust is going right back into the case.

Also, there's 3 exhaust and one intake. Negative air pressure = dust magnet. Turning the front case fan around would only worsen this effect.

V600F is very similiar and is $229 but currently on sale at Newegg for $159.

Like the Cylons, I have a plan:

1. Add a floor 120mm intake via mod.

2. Reverse the airflow to allow the three 120mm top/rear fans to be intakes. This will work better with the h100 as the h100 likes fresh cold air per design.

3. The front is 140mm case exhaust and PSU exhaust.

4. Gpu is open, not sealed shroud, so minimal gpu exhaust will contaminate the rear intake as possible.

Boom! Positive air pressure!

... And I love it when a plan comes together!

I like it.

Just curious - would it be a bad thing to go so far as to block the rear vent holes on a GPU? I ask because mine's an open shroud and it still dumps a lot of heat out the back.

I'm a little bummed that the best cases still need modding to achieve their best functionality. I know everyone has a different idea of what the "best" is, but you have to agree that the stock airflow design on this case leaves a little to be desired... It just leaves the door open for n00bs like me to attempt modding and screw up a nice case such as this.

I like it.
Doesn't look like anywhere to hide the cables so think twice before choosing windowed version.
