A brand new version of Fraps is out today. This brings the popular screenshot / video capture utility up to version 3.4.7. Here's a list of the fixes / improvements:

The latest version of Fraps includes an update to the loop recording mode, allowing you to specify a custom length for the buffer (rather than the default 30 seconds). To activate the recording loop simply press and hold your video capture hotkey until the Fraps counter turns pink, indicating that loop recording has begun. We have also included new optimizations for recording at high resolutions such as 1920x1080 (1080P). Performance gains should be seen in most OpenGL and DirectX games with Fraps 3.4.

  • Fixed recording rate being locked to a low multiple when Vsync enabled
  • Fixed unlocked recording speed after temporary slowdowns
  • Fixed Alt key interference with VMware/remote desktop applications

The only new part is the last 3 points. The top paragraph as you might guess has been there for months.

The unlocked recording issue was a pain in the ass, I swear I hope this fixes it. To give an idea of the problem. Let's say you can play Crysis at 100fps. You set fraps to record 30fps, it then records at 90fps, a multiple of 30. Then let's say a slight stutter hits and the fps drops down to 30. NORMALLY it should shoot back up to 90fps again. But before it would go to 60, or 30 and stay there forever. Now it sounds like it should go back up to 90 if it can. Which is great for some games that stutter a lot.

Fraps needs to have an option to record game audio and microphone audio in seperate streams though.

It was worth all $15? I spent on it ages ago, I do not know why but I never get update emails

Wish Fraps had a screen capture feature. That would rock socks off other programs.
