Wearing an Anonymous mask to the protest, Julian Assange made an appearance at Occupy London on Saturday. The WikiLeaks founder was forced to remove his mask by police per a new London law, which led to his recognition. He spoke briefly to the estimated crowd of 3K protesters on financial transparency.

I ask that all of you demand that foreign bank accounts be opened up and made transparent, the same way that I today have been forced to be made transparent.

Even when he has a fair point, I don't want to listen to him.

He is the sort of spokesman you do not want if you are looking to reach regular people.

His point is fair though, anonymous foreign accounts are a tool used by the wealthy, various governments / government agencies, and criminals, to hide money from us and each other.

I have to agree... he's just not someone you want to listen to after the bs he pulled.

I don't like him, but I have to agree that it would be nice to know where the money trails are going.

don't take it personal with assange. Yes he's an asshole, but attack the message if you have to.

It's a bad messenger that's willing to carry a bad message. Character matters, and Assange has none.

True, but this is a case where I think he is somewhat correct in what he is parroting.

Even Al Gore was correct at least once, why can't Assange be as well?
(My stand on Assange is that he is an opportunistic shit stain that would sell his mother down the river for cheap cup of coffee. He is certainly not some one that is to be used as a spokes person ore role model.)

I do however get tired of the criminal elements, terrorists, government agencies, and the wealthy hiding their money from each other, law enforcement, and the people. Shit stain may be the speaker, but the message does have some merit.

Though I think I will give Assange a call. I'll just pay him to show up and speak out in favor of things I want people and lawmakers to reject. Judging from my own knee jerk reaction and some of the reactions of others in this thread, I might be able to rule the world on Assange hate alone. ;);)

Except that, behind all the "occupy" people, is money coming from Socialist billionaires like Soros, the American Communist Party, etc, and the whole thing was dreamed up by Adbusters in Canada, a notoriously anti-capitalist (which means pro-socialist/pro-communist) and anti-Semitic publication. The people showing up at the protests are useful idiots that have no message other than "hate The Man" without realizing they're just pawns for ideological factions that care absolutely nothing about them and only seek to secure their own power. In the end they'd just be trading one kind of "Man" for another, just as the "Arab Spring" is trading the dictatorships of men with the dictatorship of Shariah law. They're rebels without a clue, protesting against a system they don't even really understand, and advocating the replacement of that system with something that is not any real improvement and that they understand even less.

Don't get me wrong, I'm absolutely against corruption in any form, but the people that stand to gain the most from all this are just as corrupt as the people the protesters are there to complain about. I believe the Occupy movement, and its supporters, need just as much skepticism and scrutiny leveled at them as was leveled at the Tea Party protests. I'm not seeing that happen in the media so to me that's a huge red flag that there's a lot more going on behind the scenes that a lot of very powerful people don't want the public to be privy too.
