The fine folks at AMD have let us know that Rebellion, SEGA and Twentieth Century FOX have just released the Aliens vs. Predator DirectX 11 Benchmark to the public. You can grab the 303MB benchmark here and read the complete Direct X 11 benchmark guide here as well.

BTW, you do not need Aliens vs. Predator installed for this to work, it is a complete self contained benchmark using the game engine and assets.

Settings can be configured via configuration file editing, but you must create a shortcut and tell the shortcut to launch the config file that you have named. Instructions are in the folder once you install the application. You can just run the thing at its default settings if you wish to compare results amongst your peers.

WOW, what a difference between the ATI and Nvidia benchmarks. And we're talking FERMI as well. What's up with that?

If you look to the table with numbers near the end of the slideshow it looks like AMD's cards are paying a bigger penalty for AA/AF (notice how most of the graphs show 1xMSAA / 0xAF).

At 1920x1080 4xMSAA / 16xAF the 5870 scores 34.9 fps, the 480 scores 38.4 fps. Nothing wrong with that - the 5870 is still about $100 cheaper, besides the fermi noise/heat thing.

just ran the benchmark with GTX 480 SC (726/1900) ..

1680*1050

Average FPS: 57.6

their FPS is way higher than mine.... o_O

---------------------------------------

ran it again with 860/2000 clock..

Average FPS: 68.5

woo, that is 11 fps boost there...

I got 30fps avg 5970@stock 2560x1600

so much for the 'tesselator' :D

but seriously i can tell very little difference in the screenshots.

That's a stupid amount of tris on the alien mesh with tessellation enabled, like wow.

Now if only they actually added more visible detail, rather than just creating a smoother mesh...

Some of the graphics/textures look really bad. The fencing lying against the wall in the second scene looks soo bad, like a piece of paper.

post your ram, cpu, and vid card (saves time from looking at individual profiles...)

I'll post mine soon as compy is built.

To be honest, I'm still looking for a good DX 11 game with the excpetion of BC2.

And AVP doesn't look that good, and it doesn't do se well as a game either

I cant run the bench, I keep getting D3Dcompiler_42.dll is missing from the computer. I am updating directx right now from microsoft, hopefully it fixes it. EDIT: Fixed, don't know why hey wouldn't include the files in the setup.

Someone should run this on a 480/470 with 256 drivers and see if the numbers significantly improve.

They are only using 197s, but using the just released 10.5s so there may be some driver optimizations differences taking place here.

no difference, I am using 257.15 drivers. I am not surprised though because this is heavily ati hardware optimized game, From the day the hd 5000 series launched this game was on AMD's mouth all day long. Plus I am sure if nvidia wanted they could optimized their driver on their own just for the benchmark and you will see the performance increase. So far gtx 480 is slower in this game even with the new drivers.

Use command-line option '-logframetime' to report performance frame-by-frame.

I rebooted my computer and turned my display adapter from 1680x1050 @ 120hz to 60hz. That boosted my frame rate by nearly 10fps.

Wow... there are only two results of 1680x1050 right now. >.<

Here's my results from the system in my sig, except my 5870 is only at 1000/1250 for the moment. Looking at my hardware logs, it seems this game doesn't put much of a load on the CPU. My speeds were bouncing between 4000 and 2400Mhz.

Can anyone else see the difference in the SSAO shots? I would probably leave it off

Yeah I was wondering about that as well; personally I couldn't tell any difference. I'm wondering though if this game is a good example of what DX11 can really do. Part of me thinks "no".

I can easily tells which is which.

the one on the right is more unnatural and too bright, on the left is more realistic, especially the background black spot..

Too many sexy video cards in here...I do not feel worthy.

this is heavily ati hardware optimized game, From the day the hd 5000 series launched this game was on AMD's mouth all day long

It was built on ATI DX11 hardware because it was the only existing DX11 hardware. Tessellation isn't in Fermi's favour here because it's not outrageously over the top like in Heaven and slightly less outrageously over the top in Metro 2033.

This is what I came to the thread for. The first thing that jumped out at me was the low MSAA and AF numbers. 25% price increase for 10% preformance isn't great, but it's not the super cherry picked numbers where ATI out preforms it.

On the other hand, they used 197.75 drivers. The new 254 beta drivers claim upto 14% better preformance IIRC.

Hello,

I just spend last 30 minutes on trying to install this demo, every time I try I get this error:

avperror.png

I am logged as admin on Win7 32bit. What should I do to install the demo?

Please not you can run an msi file as administrator, converting the msi to exe and then running as administrator also did not help

EDIT: I had a problem with permission in Programdata directory. Fixed now.
