Mowing over high PPD folders from yesteryear

I still haven't heard anyone bring up some of the other whacko stuff we did..... along with that dual P3, I had two Athlon "pizza boxen" running under my bed. Some of us got around the breaker limitation by having a box or two in every room of our house...

Mowing over high PPD folders from yesteryear

My lord there are some names from the past in this one..... (I suppose mine too) fired up my GTX1080 SLI rig today.... needed a space heater... Time will tell how long it stays on Started out with Dual P3 1GHz @ 1.1 and a Couple C2 600s @900 (under rated overclocker that one as good as the...

So I've been away a while again....

Yep, they're out there, you just have to know where to look. They are once again a growing trend in the power industry. Elon Musk can build his Li-ion batteries, and yes they will be higher power density, but these are huge and won't burst into flames if you miss-operate them.

Man, you guys come up with some good ideas, and yet industry is just a step ahead of you. https://www.pbs.org/newshour/science/oregon-transform-lake-battery-charge-electricity-grid Don't let that crash your hopes though, you could still do it small scale for personal use.

So I've been away a while again....

Yeah, something pretty close to what you are describing helps make solar more viable. As it is our the two base load nuke units at my site run 100% (each just shy of 1 Gigawatt) 24/7/365, for just under 17 months before refueling. Less than a mile a way the 3 600 Megawatt coal units of another...

So I've been away a while again....

I'm not sure I fully follow "massive power option". Just basing on my experience. Nuclear is a good option for what we call "Base Load", load that with be there 24/7/365. Nuclear is really good for coming up to power and staying there for months on end. Nuclear challenges you if you want to...

So I've been away a while again....

Hey, I operate them, I don't design or build them. Westinghouse is falling on hard times, maybe you could get one from them on the cheap.... y'anno a couple hundred million or so, and you'd have to pay a contractor to build it, and then some fuel. I suppose first you'd have to get a preliminary...

New Core 21 0.0.18 lower PPD

Huh... and I just restarted my boxen and the core_update cleared and the machine started folding. I've thought I saw a cut in production on that machine. My other machines are still running the 372.xx drivers, if there is any cut in production, I've not really seen it. My 1080 SLI is getting...

The new "died in the line of duty" thread

I'm still standing with my after thought of inductor. R33 is on the part, thus it is some kind of rating. L13 is silk screened on the board next to the part labeled R33, that would be the circuit designator L for inductor. Either way though, the magic smoke is no longer inside the component...

The new "died in the line of duty" thread

Gilthanis, Get yourself one of these https://www.sparkfun.com/products/retired/10622 That looks like it once was a resistor (on further thought, as the similar box next to it has the designation of an inductor it might be one of those, the L in L13 indicated what it might be I couldn't see the...

The new "died in the line of duty" thread

CV yep, and my son's part time folder SEAHAWK had to be RMA'ed. I'm not sure that there is a need for super concern with the 980Ti. We may be seeing a lot of failures, but we also bought a bunch as well. Heck, I have had multiple GPUs fail while folding, GTX570, 2x R9 270, GTX970, GTX980Ti. I...

    Vote: Hard DC'er of the Year: 2016 {part one}

heh..... I'm splitting atoms making my own. Well not really, I still don't have my license yet, late this year. So I have to do it while a licensed operator watches me, and it isn't really mine, I still have to pay for it at my home. BS right? Even so, still crunching, just no time to chat...

    nvidia 375 Drivers

Core32 has it right. Check for those frequencies with a program like nvidia inspector or GPUz. I'm sure you could see it in afterburner or others, but I use simpler utilities. I don't recall off the top of my head what a 1000 series card defaults to on error, but a 900 series defaults to 405...

    nvidia 375 Drivers

When I get home from xmas vacation, I'll have to look into this. Early reports were that .33 did not fold, but there was to be a hot fix to solve the issue. Looking good, thanks for the heads up.

    nvidia 375 Drivers

I hear they have done nothing to fix it in 376.16, heck it's not even on the list of issues in the driver documentation. People at folding forums, and nvidia forums are getting a bit terse with nvidia.

    nvidia 375 Drivers

Nothing else? That suxors.... maybe they will get this sorted out, but I'm not holding my breath. Of course Stanford will insist that it is a nVidia issue, and nVidia probably insists that the issue is on Stanford's end. Please keep me posted if anything else changes. I have to get back to studying.

The new "died in the line of duty" thread

Nate - good luck with that. Now the tricky part..... scooping up all that magic smoke and squeezing it back into the PSU. If I may be so bold, I recommend the Magic Blue Smoke Refilling Kit available at https://www.sparkfun.com/products/retired/10622 I also need to report a death of my own. My...

    nvidia 375 Drivers

Are there any versioni 375 drivers that work with folding? I've been holding out with 372 series drivers, but my son just got Battlefield 1 for PC, and he cannot launch the game due to an error that 375.62 drivers are required to play the game. This is not quite the big issue with points as his...

Big Progress in FAH Daily Production

Well I will move the GTX970 to my desktop, which should bring that to just shy of 1MPPD, my HTPC will have 2xGTX1080, and I will probably retire my 2 GTX960s. So with the retirement of 300KPPD, I'm guessing that my production will only go up by 700-800KPPD. I despise paper launches

Skillz, Now where were those non-early-adopters-tax..... errr non-founders day GTX1080s.... I have $1200 to invest in my HTPC. That and a bit more savings should be a 700KPPD improvement. Moar D less electricity.

GTX 970, wired behavior after idle

I have dropped the clocks on the cards. This happens even at stock clocks. Playing a game should be easier on the card than folding, so less work and crashes at stock? That is a driver/instruction issue not an overclocking issue. Yesturday I was playing DOTA2 while my 980ti happily munched away...

    nVidia 1080 new GPU

My guess is that it would only be a matter of time before they release a HG10 model that supports a 1080. You would have to add a compatible AIO cooler yourself. They already have models for most 700 and 900 series cards. it is not as pretty or as AIO as the one on my SEAHAWK 980ti, but under...

GTX 970, wired behavior after idle

I really don't follow the question. Could the word be weird? I think some people who do this on linux might be of better help, but I have seen similar when the card/driver has seen an error of some sort and drops to P? state. I'm not sure which P# it is, but for all Maxwell cards the core...
