    [Microsoft] Windows 8 for $14.99

Same thing happened to me, but before the PayPal submission page. I resrtarted the upgrade assistant, and it proceeded through the second time. You might try re-running the assistant and see where it picks up at.

Higher Frames Per Second = Bad

It's not the same thing at all. Your TV fakes 120Hz by making best guesses from the (60Hz) information at hand. I hate the herky-jerky "smoothness" it creates. (Moving Items seem to be standing still, then rush up to full speed. It's very unnaturual.) He's talking about capturing double...

DirecTV Working on Broadcasting Ultra HDTV Signals

When DirecTV (and Dish and cable companies) can't even transmit SD streams without obvious, distracting compression artifacts, how in the world is UHD going to be any better? If you have the bandwitdth to do 4K or 8K, use it to fix your existing broadcasts!

    NEC 19" LCD Monitor (4:3) - $59

Technically, you're correct, but we all know what he meant - "non widescreen". Until you get to ~24" 1920x1080(1200), I greatly prefer "4x3" / non-widescreen monitors. I refuse to give up vertical resolution (1440x900, 1680x1050, etc) as compared to my 1600x1200 20". Scrolling sucks!

Next Gen Credit Cards to Have On/Off Switch

Seems like a logical next step. I still would greatly prefer a physical connection, rather than wireless. Less complicated, more reliable, impervious to the new attack vectors created by wireless connections. I've refused to use my American Express card for the past several years, since...

Weller WESD51 Digital Soldering Station $99.49

This Weller (or the similar analog dial one) is a great mid-range iron, 100X better than any non-temperature-controlled ($3-$50) iron. Tips are about $5, and are available from a tiny ~1mm pinpoint tip (detail work) up to a ~1/4" wide fat one (coils, ground traces, etc). Recovers from a...

Weller WESD51 Digital Soldering Station $99.49

Have to agree. This iron was the best ~$130 I've ever spent on my electronics hobby. Tips are cheap and last a long time.

OCZ Vertex Plus 120GB (Indilinx) - $122.xx AR @ TigerDirect

I bought 5 of the 60GB version of this drive. Based on my experiences, I will not own another OCZ product in the foreseeable future. 1. Unable to reboot laptop without partition scrambling. 2. Unable to install Windows. (Was forced to clone from a working mechanical drive, and was then...

    27" ViewSonic Geeks.com FS $184.99

I generally think less of refurbs (as compared to used). With a used item, you really don't know if it's a good/poor model. With refurbs, you know the product has failed. If there are enough refurb items to gather up and put on sale, it must be a terrible quality product. That said, I do...

Netgear WNDR3300 Dual Band Wireless N Router $24.98 shipped

Looks like it's a pretty good deal to me, but it does have some limitations. Not "true" dual band. It's basically two separate APs working together. One can do Wireless N (300mbps) at 5GHz or 2.4GHz, the other only does Wireless G (54mbps) at 2.4 GHz. So if you want 5GHz+2.4GHz, your 2.4GHz is...

I know everyone hates woot but 4ch DVR W/Cameras 109.99

I haven't seen a good deal on woor for a LONG time, but I bit on this one. Cheap cameras are ~$25 ea, cheap DVRs are ~$100, so as long as one or the other is pretty decent, it's money well spent!

    8Gb USB2.0 PNY Flash Drive $2.84 Walmart in-store pickup

Standard credit card. Without it, was too thin. Standard credit card is slightly thicker than the original sheet metal. It slides in firmly, but not too-tightly. Seems to work just fine. Other than the outer black casing (which would require glue or heat to reassemble correctly), you can try...

    8Gb USB2.0 PNY Flash Drive $2.84 Walmart in-store pickup

I bought 5 (online with "pickup at store" option), picked them up last night on my way home. Took longer to find the Site-To-Store desk than it did for the employee to grab them for me. One of my co-workers got 15. (5 + 10 on seperate order) He also had no problems picking them up.

OCZ Vertex Plus 120GB $100AR shipped

Stay away from the Vertex Plus drives. I bought 5 (60GB), had to return them all to Newegg. For an older laptop, they seemed like a perfect upgrade. Not top-tier SSD performance, but a huge upgrade over a mechanical drive. They DO NOT WORK with 945 or 965 chipsets, possibly others. Partition...

    60GB vertex plus $59.99 with $10 MIR = $49.99

How's the (built-in) garbage collection? I'm looking at updating some 4 year old XP laptops. (And XP doesn't have TRIM support, obviously.) I tested with a Kingston V+100, and boot time went from 5min to 1.5min. These probably aren't as quick, but will hopefully still be a huge jump over...

    Roku HD $40+$5 S/H @ Woot
