Well I guess the issue is really how does the 8600GT M compare to the normal desktop 8600GT. My guess would be that it's not nearly as fast. I'll look around for benchmarks i guess.

The M is mobile, so getting a direct comparison really isn't possible. I should also mention that I'd most likely be getting a 128mb 8600 and the x850 is 256mb

Well Tom's Hardware doesn't even have the 8600 GT M listed. It's a single core Opteron 146 at 3ghz.

Ok I know this is a real out there/random comparison, but I'm looking to switch from my desktop to a MacBook Pro. So I was wondering, in terms of speed, is a 8600 GT M or X850 XT PE (actually a X800 unlocked/oc'd to a XT PE) better?

I tried hooking mine up with a HDMI > DVI but I just get a black screen. I guess the PS3 needs HDCP for the XMB and games too.

I believe a new exception was added to the DMCA where if the medium is obsolete... aka NES cartridges you can legally use the rom.

I never said I'm including pirated games. There are plenty legal homebrew games and roms that fall under the exception rule under the DMCA

I don't know if this point has been made, but the 360 and PS3 aren't so off in price as you would think. A 360 with all the goodies is 500 + 100-200 for the HDDVD drive. A PS3 with the HDMI and wireless networking (which the 360 doesn't have) is 600. So really the two consoles are the same price...

Asking which distro to use is gonna get you a bunch of different answers. My best experience has been with Ubuntu... I would definitely try it over anything first. The forums for ubuntu are amazing, you can ask any question (stupid or not) and you'll get a straightforward answer...
