Built many PCs before, looking to build a new one.... lost....

Hey, Looking to build a new PC for home use. I want to know your ideas and your tips on what components to use to build a good PC. I'm looking to build a Budget to Mid-Grade PC... I just need the best value CPUs, best value Motherboards, best RAM values (and brand/type), and best...

^^^ From what I can recall, the SDA creates a "synthetic" audio soundstage by playing around with the audio output. It may surround you, but it's not true to source.

    Rotel RC-1070 to computer?

I would buy this (from audiogon): 1. Paradigm S2 v1 ($1250) 2. Rogue Metis Tube Preaamp ($550) 3. Rotel RB-1070 amp ($500) 4. Use the XFi for now as your DAC. Later on, get a Cary CDP/DAC combo. Otherwise, a Benchmark or Paradisea are good alternatives.

    Rotel RC-1070 to computer?

AB, The RC1070 is a preamp not a DAC, so there is no digital input because there is no conversion done within the RC1070 itself. What the preamp does is it takes the low level signal from your source (i.e. XFi, CDPlayer, etc) and converts it to a line level signal (a few mV) for which the...

    Rotel RC-1070 to computer?

I had a VERY similar set up before... Xfi to RC1070 to RB1070. I thought it sounded good, but a good DAC will improve the sound further and so does replacement of the preamp itself. I serendipitously found out that preamps made a difference when I was playing around with the RC1070 vs the...

What to pay for Klipsch ProMedia Ultra 5.1

I think anything below 150$ is pretty good.. especially since you know where it's been and the sale is local. Don't gyp your friend... the one thing that gets me is when friends undercut friends, just because they're friends. Find a fair price for you two and buy it.

    HD555 label on a Sennheiser HD595

If I recall correctly, same thing happened with Sennheiser's 580 being marked as 650. Now, that is the flagship for Senn..... Ever since that thread on headfi, I've been leary of buying Sennheiser.

Looking to Build Audiophile Computer Speaker Setup

Keep telling yourself that. DACs (or sources) in general are just like any other component of the audio chain. The difference between a $100 DAC to a $3000 DAC is similar to the difference between a $100 amp to a $3000 amp. Of course, this is pointless because you're set in your ways...

Looking to Build Audiophile Computer Speaker Setup

I agree that for this particular setup a receiver or sticking with your Zero DAC is most prudent. I disagree that hiend DACs are simply gimmicks. To OP, Onix XLS would be a good choice, paired with Xsub or ULW10.

Chris - Nice set up and nice Acoustic Zen Adiagos! Heard lots of good things about that speaker - good components upstream as well. It is easy for many to mistakenly believe that source does not produce a discernable sound of its own (or allow for the system to showcase improvement of...

Sweet, mag... though it would sound better with better equipment than the Denon - but more than good enough for me. You should hear the diamonds - similar to those in looks but revamped crossover and a diamond tweeter instead of the aluminum in that guy. Powered by some awesome amps...

Damn dude... that's pimp. Ask him if they are the 802Diamonds or the 802 regulars. From the looks of them, they look to be the regulars, but I could be wrong. Anyway, badass rig.... if viewers here knew exactly what they were looking at, they'd be even more impressed. That's an HT rig to...

I'm going to recommend JUNO original soundtrack to the forum. I don't think it's the best recorded album around, but it's raw and sounds great through my system. I listened through the entire 19 tracks twice now in one day (got it today). Very good music, lyrics a little simple - but...

    Should I upgrade my speakers?

Midrange will be much better with a bookshelf system regardless of bitrate. What you wont get with a lower bitrate is solid imaging, ambience, and positioning cues (i.e. position of images). You will still get more midrange reproduction with a bookshelf though. Those satellites are kinda...

Thanks man! It will be a pain, but hopefully it'll sound better than where I got them now. Too bad I'll lose my system as my PC speakers... now I gotta find a decent pair for sole pc use. :( Anyway, I had another guy come by today - he's heard my system many times before. Same thing, said...

    Should I upgrade my speakers?

Hrm... I would say that you could probably get away with something like Klipsch 2.1. If you want something a bit more hifi, you could look into getting 2 bookshelves and a small receiver to start you out. BTW, I also heard some Bose Companion 3 speakers, and considering that all computer...

I agree... completely. This is not an effort to make people buy what I own, it's a thread for showing "what's new and what's hopping". I just include a bit of what I thought about the particular item. It's definitely not a way for me to justify my purchase by writing deluded thoughts on...

Read your pm... completely 100% agree. Hi end is double-edged sword indeed. Once you get higher end, more resolute items - it doesn't stop there as inadequacies down the chain are revealed and you're back in the merry-go-round that is "upgrading". You are right when you said that in the...

I am not trying to justify the purchase, this is a forum for speakers and equipment. Each time I post a new product, I include a brief review. If you go through the other sites (audiogon, martinloganowners, clubpolk, audioasylum, av123, htguide, etc) you will see that I've posted in-depth...

Of course, I will also state the obvious. You probably need some very transparent speakers to tell the difference. Case in point, I had a pair of hi end floorstanders (I will not name the brand/model). Costed under $3K (just to give you a reference point). With this particular speaker...

There will always be those who will doubt, regardless of the protocols I take in getting to a particular conclusion with regards to my system. Even if I did a double blind control trial, there will still be a loophole that I may have forgotten to taken into account and those same doubters will...

Ayre or Emm... that's probably the way to go. With your lossless collection, I would err towards the Emm. If the Cary 306 is world class, the Emm is out of this world. It's been about a year and a half since we talked and I suppose I've done some work here and there with regards to my...

Thanks! I have listened to the Ayre, but I have not yet listened to any of the Esoterics. The one thing I don't like about the Esoterics is their use of opamps, however, many swear by them and they are probably good. I really do like the Ayre - I think one would be VERY hard pressed to...

Oh, I enjoy it when others' piss on my parade and I enjoy it when people read into my review as my psychosomatic justification for the purchase. What I enjoy more is when people who haven't heard my system have the conviction to say that whatever music I listen to would sound...

I just picked up the Cary 306/200 from a local audiophile who’s becoming a friend of mine. He has a knack for collecting CD players (among other things) and he somehow wanted to get rid of this venerable player. I dunno why, but it certainly was my gain! Anyway, when I was over his place...

Noob Ready to step into the Audiophile world. (Receiver Question)

$200 for a receiver is very fair and cheap. That is entry level and that is what you have to pay to start the journey. Enjoy, it's a long process but it's fun! :)

    What does a DAC do?

You know, I think you should just stick with the Panny and scrap the outboard DAC idea. Unless you have enough money to spend on a good quality DAC or have speakers that are resolving enough to flaunt the new improvement, I would say just stick with the Panny. It's a waste of money.

Downgrading from High End. Need some cheap recommendations.

A refurbed or used Onkyo 780/790 would be good htib solution for you.

    What does a DAC do?

I don't get it... what are you implying then?
  38. P

    What does a DAC do?

That doesn't make sense, just because it's a digital receiver doesn't mean the signal remains in digital the whole way through. It still functions as any other receiver and has its own DAC and converts said digital signal into analog which is then amplified by the digital circuit.

Please, a hairdryer uses way more power than a Class A amp. Digital amps? I haven't heard one that didn't sound dry - all those switches and the multiple amplification stages. You drive 2 hummers (parents) or you own 2 hummers. Last I checked, there would be no purpose to having 2 hummers...
