I was going to use RAID 0 for installing steam and games, to make load times faster. 256gigs gets used up fast on a SSD. Any point in doing this? Is the difference that big in video games?
EDIT: Hell, went ahead and pulled the trigger. Heres the final build, if anyone is interested.

SSD link fixed.
I want to do RAID 0 because it should increase preformance, based on my knowledge. Isn't it basically making 2 HDD work at finding files that are installed between the two drives?
I want a 27" wide screen just for the viewing room. I don't plan on doing much show...
1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc

Guys, you know what really makes me mad?
Holiday season is coming up, which means the price on SSD drives is defiantly not going to go down.
I want one so bad :(
I'm convinced on SSD.
Now I have to wait till the price drops.
Jesus tap dancing christ are they expensive! 300$ for 80g.
Guess I'll play the waiting game
In between all this forum posts I'm doing research and reading reviews, and both the raptor and the ssd are looking worse compared to a RAID 0 with the 640.
Unless I raid 0 the 640 and use the SSD for the OS....
How does that sound?
Maybe the RAID 0 would be the best option at this point. Its cheaper than bother options and it seems to offer pretty good performance.
But godamn there are so many opinions floating around. Over at toms everyone is saying to go with the raptor....
Its enough to make my head explode
I've always wanted a fast HD to decrease boot time and overall make navigating the OS and gaming faster.
I've been looking at the SSD's that are out and they are expensive, but they seem to pack a punch for performance.
On the other side of the coin there are the WD raptors that are...
Thanks for the speedy response.
How about this, it seems that the HD that's currently in my computer is hovering at a pretty low price point at the egg. Its the exact same HD I bought when I built my rig.
If I were to pick up that drive and put both my HD's together for a RAID 0, would I...
Hello everyone,

Hello everyone,
I am assembling a computer for my father out of some spare parts around the house. My friend loaned me a K8N5 for the motherboard, and as such, I have no manual for it.
I fixed up the computer and had everything running about 2 months ago.
My father finally got a monitor for...
I didn't read through all the replies and everything, but this did pop into my mind.
While yes, they aren't going to rape your computer and look at your secret porn folders, it is nice to know what you are getting yourself into when you click "Ok" on the EULA.
Hell, I never read those...
Hell everyone.
I while ago I short circuited my MoBo. Fast forward to now and I got a new rig running. I want to get some of my old files off my HD so I plugged the sucker in and can access it from My Computer.
The only problem is when I click on my name it says the access is denied...
Hey everyone
I bought clear sky a while back for 40$. After playing Oblivion Lost SoC, it felt like a step backwards. The graphics and all the new features were great, but the laser bullet AI and the nades were a real turn off.
So I decided to wait a while for the mods to fix all of the...
Boy, nothing like an upgrade to really make a kid happy.
So I went from

To

4gb of Gskill
Q6600 2.4ghz
ATI 4870 512mb
640g hd
Its so satisfying opening up task manager and seeing 4 little CPU boxes...
wtfcopters@ blizzard.
If they make b.net pay to play, I'm for one going to be really pissed. Possibly won't even buy the damn game. Hard to justify paying to play a RTS online...
Hope blizz really thinks this out
Alrighty. With that, I'm going to try the 4 pin connection. I'll order the adapter, but till then I need to get my computer fix xD
Thanks everyone
EDIT:
4 pin plug in into the 8 pin does not let the system boot up. Guess I have to get an adapter...and wait longer..
or I could "rent"...
Intresting. Why didn't those 20pin->24pin adapters work then? From what I've learned, the reason those didn't work was because it was adding more load to wires and it evauntually melted the damn thing.
I guess the way I'm looking at it would be like this:
the 2 12v rails that are going to...
Huh, I thought those adapters would be akin to the old 20pin->24 pin adapters, which really didnt do anything.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldnt the adapter I linked too have the needed 4 12v rails, while yours would essentialy be dividing 2 12v rails between 4 12v rails?
Ah, you were talking about the pin-to-pin matchup. I think I did match either a 3.3v or a 5v into the ground, and the 12v into a ground connection too.Ms.A8N-SLI Delux...is dead.
Sorry about the misunderstanding.
Wanted to double check on this, to see if there is any life left. Thanks...
To clarify (I'm one paranoid guy bout his new system :p) you're running 4 pins into a P5Q Asus. I saw that sticker myself, and I removed it exposing the other pins. Everything dandy on your end?
Could I possibly get a second opinion on this as well? Thanks everyone
The FrozenCPU link is the wrong type of adapter. That won't pull the needed power, it will just be a fix to make the 4 pin fit into a 8 pin.
This is the kind of adapter you need:

(I found it xD)
I'm running a Q6600 in a P5E...
GPU is fine, it has 2x 6 pin connectors, which my PSU has.
However, my MoBo is 8 pin, and I have a 4 pin. I have to get the 2x 4 pin molax cable to 8pin adapter. I wish I knew this beforehand because I have to wait another couple of days because NOBODY carries this godamn adapter.
Just about to get this beast up and running. Only I need now is a 8 pin adapter for the MoBo and she'll be screaming

Did you read the thread?
I asked this questian a while back, but I now have more information regarding what I did.
A8N SLI-Delux - It has a 4 pin ATX +12 volt power plug in
I have a Turbo Cool 510 PSU from PC P&C that has a 6 pin PCI Express power cable
I plugged the 6 pin into the 4 pin. Doing some reading on...
Good point...but it isn't 1gb of memory. Still...at that price point. Back to the drawing board
EDIT: Did some snooping: ~241if I did storepickup. But the nearest store is about ~40 miles away. It would be a bit of work and would save me 25$ at the most.
I think I'll go egg on this, but...
