I wanna get an A64, but how will I know whether its a nuke or a winnie?

If the last two characters on the cpu say "BI" then it's a Winchester.. "PW" or "PL" (can't remember) if it's a Newcastle. Something like that.. ;)

LCD good or bad for gaming ?

Another thing to note here.. just because some people notice ghosting/blur, doesn't mean that everyone will. By the same token, just because some people don't notice it, doesn't mean it isn't there. The high to highest-end LCD's performance will vary from person to person. It really is up to the...

    Need some SATA help

You said you pressed F6 and nothing happened? You should have at least gotten to a stage that asks for the SATA/RAID drivers to be used. Check to make sure that the SATA is enabled on your mobo (either via jumpers or in the BIOS) and you will need the proper drivers at the F6 stage.

When will the vid card shortage end?

Well, I ordered mine through a friend on ATI's site, and he gets a slight discount. That's the only real reason why I haven't simply picked up an X800 from a retail store or online store. *sigh* This discount better be worth the wait..

When will the vid card shortage end?

LOL 21 days :p I've been waiting since August for my X800 XT PE (no offense to you). This shortage is ridiculous.. we can only hope it does end soon.

    A8V Raid Setting?

Hey all, I recently set up my new system (in sig) and was wondering about the raid settings. I currently have 2 120gig WD sata drives which are set up independantly. I don't plan on using them in raid, so is there a jumper setting where I can disable the raid check on bootup? I checked the...

LCD good or bad for gaming ?

Yeah.. I've been using my Samsung 712N (12ms response time, 600:1 contrast ratio) for a while now and don't mind it in games. Mind you, you'll probably always get a better gaming experience with a CRT, but for those that aren't extremely picky (or don't notice), certain LCD's can be perfectly fine.

    X800 XT PE Pre-orders

Quite right.. I don't feel like upgrading my mobo just to get a PCI-X vcard, which is why I'm trying to get an X800 XT PE. I guess I'll have to continue playing the waiting game for now

    Asus A8V Rev. 2.00?

Heh :) well, you could always check the PCB print between the PCI slots. There should be "A8V" in white print followed by "Rev 2.00" in really small white print if you have the Revision 2 board. I checked mine (white box as well) and it turns out to be a 2.0 board. So I'm happy :D And yeah, I...

how come my rear spkers are so quiet?

Heh, well glad to hear that the situation has somewhat improved. You already tried what I was going to suggest with the fade levels, so that wasn't it. On my Altec Lansing 4100's, I had to configure a setting on the remote that brought the sound level up from the rear speakers to match the front...

    Asus A8V Rev. 2.00?

Yeah, I just confirmed it. I have the Rev 2.0 board as well (checked the PCB print between the PCI slots). *whew* :D

    Asus A8V Rev. 2.00?

I've seen pictures of the board box in reviews and they had some green on the front. That's why when I got my board and saw an all white box, I wondered if it was a Rev 1 or 2 board they sent me.

    Asus A8V Rev. 2.00?

Is the Rev 2.0 box all (mainly) white? I just bought this board too and the utilities I used also reported it as 1.xx. With this thread now, there's a chance I have a 2.0 board (which is what I wanted) :)

    X800 XT PE Pre-orders

Is anyone here part of the group that preordered their X800 XT PE directly from ATI waay back when? I think I had a preorder with ATI back in August and I still have no idea what's going on with that order. It seems no one knows anything. There are those fortunate enough to have found them in...

    Back on AMD again

I ordered mine from NCIX.com. I had a chance to get one from a local retailer but I figured the major online retailer would have later revisions (due to more sales and whatnot). I guess I was wrong.

    Lian-Li PC-0703A or 6803A fans

I have a Lian-Li PC-0703A (practially the same as a 6803A) and was wondering what kind of 80mm fans are on it? I came from an Antec Super LANboy that had 2 120mm fans that were pretty quiet. My new case has 4 80mm's (2 intake, 2 exhaust) but the system seems a little bit louder. Would I notice a...

    0.13micron or 90nm

The only real benefit is cooler running temps because it's on a lower voltage and whatnot. The 90nm's easily oc better than the 0.13micron's because of that ;)

    Back on AMD again

Same setup here as well ;) I'm loving it as well. My past 3 systems were AMD's (T-Bird 1.33GHz, Barton 2500+ and now my 3500+) and each has performed better than what I expected. powerade: I too was expecting to get a Rev 2.0 board, but received a 1.0 instead. I oc'd my 2500+ before, but...

    athlon 64 retail packaging heatsink

Not to hijack this thread or anything, but, for those of you who are also currently using the stock HSF, do you find it is a tad bit loud? I recently upgraded from an AthlonXP 2500+ /w Tt Silentboost K7 in an Antec Super Lanboy. That rig was quiet. I currently have an Athlon64 3500+ /w stock...

Is it ever too late to get into a MMORPG?

Yes. Obviously you cannot have duplicate names on the same server, but each server is independant of another, so it is possible to use the same name on a different one. Also, don't ever worry about being way to far behind in XP or anything like that. There are new people joining WoW (and any...

    athlon 64 retail packaging heatsink

The retail HSF isn't bad at all actually, but I guess that varies from person to person. Mine idles at 34 and hits mid 40's in games.

    Merry Christmas to ALL!!!!

Merry Christmas to everyone! I had hoped my X800 XT PE would arrive by Christmas but it looks like ATI still struggles with the card. I have a direct order from them (pre-order) actually since August and still no word whatsoever. :( *sigh* Maybe there will be a knock on my door tomorrow...

    Painting a CRT Black?

Well, I couldn't remember exactly how long you're supposed to wait (to be completely safe). Maybe it was like 3 hours, yeah that sounds about right :p Anyways, he's not planning on tinkering with the internals of the monitor, only painting the shell. But yes, still play it safe and let it...

    Painting a CRT Black?

You can paint it.. I painted my 19" Sony. Just make sure you unplug your monitor and leave it unplugged for AT LEAST 30 minutes to an hour. This will ensure that any charges left in the tubes are gone and safe to work on. Like others have said.. separate the shell from the internals, and use...

    Keyboard question

I had a Logitech Elite Keyboard (wired version of the keyboard from the MX Duo set) and it was great.. no complaints. I recently got a Microsoft Digital Media Pro and I love it. The click of the buttons are smooth and the one great thing about it is: if you don't use the F-quick keys (like me)...

Keep my XP of get a 64 for FREE?

I'd say there will be a difference for sure.. you might not notice it initially, but if you use the A64 mostly, and then go back to the AXP, you'll notice it then. Even so, as soon as 64-bit OS's and apps hit.. there's another huge advantage.
