I have set up profiles through the NVidia control panel for my two output displays (Samsung 2253 monitor @ 1680x1050, Connected through DVI) and my television (Sony 42" LCD @ 12890x768, connected through a VGA cable). The profiles are TV: Cloned display with the Sony TV as the primary, and...

Supreme commander was, for me, a big disappointment. I still play Total Annihilation, and that's a blast. I've played a fair bit of CoH, but I just feel like Dawn of War is a much better game (Certainly faster).
I know with my old Antec PSU, if I plugged the fan sensor into the motherboard it would just go full speed all the time. I guess the PSU was expecting the motherboard to regulate it's speed for temperature, or something. If the fan sensor is plugged in, then try running the system without it...
The four pin connector on the 8800GT, what are the 4 pins? Is it possible to modify and connect an aftermarket fan to the board header to allow you to use the onboard throttle control to regulate fan speed?
I have installed the supposedly silent Arctic Cooling Turbo module, and it's the noisiest fan in my case. It sounds like any other 80mm fan running at a decent speed. Is there something wrong with mine, or have other people noticed it's noise too?
And why didn't it have the 4 pin connector...
So I'm unclear on the use of the JMicron controller outside of a RAID setup. If you aren't running a RAID array, is there any reason to keep the driver enabled in the BIOS? or can it just be disabled (Running 2 non raid SATA drives).
I'm having a similar problem. What's odd is that it's only on the blend option, and it's independant of the OC. If I let the CPU choose everything auto (default) then I still get an error within an hour, yet if I choose large FFTs or Small FFTs, then it runs fine endlessly. It's confusing me. Is...
I know it's an older chip, but I finally decided to start playing around with OCing today.

Maybe it's a difference in motherboard/graphics card design, although as far as I am aware, the 8800GTs are all reference. Mine is Palit for what it's worth.
No it's not, else I wouldn't have made that statement.
Motherboard ambient temp lists as "system", CPU lists as "Core 0", "Core 1" and some inexplicable "CPU" listing. My GPU Temps show as "Core" and "Ambient" and match the temperatures listed in ATI Tool.
That's what I figured after using coretemp (I called it CPU temp in my original post).
I was trying to figure out where the reading is coming from, since it seems stable, and doesn't reference anything else.
BTW, your OC guide is awesome. I'll be lapping my CPU this weekend. I can't believe...
That's the cooler I mentioned in my previous post. Idling hard drives are louder than the fan. My GPU core went from 78C to 42C under load. It's a brilliant cooler, Big though
I have a P5B (vanilla) and am going through the paces of OCing, but in Speedfan, there is an extra temperature that I can't figure out, I have "Core 0" and "Core 1" which are the core temps that the CPU Temp application picks up on, but there is also a "CPU" temperature report that is...
The Arctic Cooling Accelero S1 will work fanless, but the addition of the turbo module makes a massive increase to performance and you cannot hear it until you are about 8" away from the open case. Cheap too.
Impressive OC on the stock cooling, but if the system isn't even posting on the faster setting, then I think that it's telling you something. Perhaps your memory can't handle the timings and needs a manual adjustment.
I know that OC is all about the maximum gains, but 3.2 to 3.4 is a 6.25%...
I Wooted too. I did some research and it seems like it's a good card with some nice features, but the driver support is a little lacking. As long as the drivers are available and work in XP, that's all I'm after. For $75, I can eBay it if I don't like it, and it's likely to be a huge improvement...
I just bought a Razer Barracuda AC-1 from woot.com for $75 with S&H. For that price, even if it doesn't do what I want it to do, it's a fairly safe bet. It looks like the card can encode DDS, and has EAX2.0, so it will be a decent improvement over my Audigy OEM.
I'll let you know what I think...
Thanks Shagn.
CrimandEvil: You're dead right, and that's what I was afraid of. I was looking for a card that supported my HTPC Needs and gaming needs simultaneously, and there seems to be a disconnect between the two, which left me feeling like an oddity. My PC is the only computer I have...
Thanks. It's amazing that this information is so hard to come by. I would have thought that given the popularity of HTPC, there would be a definitive guide to stuff like this.
That's a good bit of advice. So what you are saying about the DD conversion is that on the other cards, the TOSLINK will only act as a passthrough on encoded sources (DVD), and it won't output sound on all other windows (Directsound) applications?
On the creative PCI-E X-Fi card, there is the usual array of analogue outputs, plus an optical in/out connection. Can you run both the digital and the analogue outputs at the same time? (ie. I need my computer to output to my multimedia speakers and also output to my receiver).
Will all sound...
My system setup currently consists of a full tower in my basement that is hooked up to a Logitech 5.1 speaker system, then I have the whole system wired (USB, video, audio) through a wall conduit to my living room where I have a Dolby/DTS receiver. What I am currently doing, is running L/R audio...
I bought the S1 when I got my 8800GT, I ran the card for a day with the stock cooler to see what it was like and was getting idle/load temps of about 65/90. I installed the cooler and the turbo module and it dropped to about 35/50.
A few pointers about the turbo module. The fans are not...
Funny story. I thought I was getting artifacts after a long session of playing Witcher last night. It turns out that certain potions give red spots on the camera view, and it's intentional.
So with the release of the 38xx series, it's got me thinking about upgrading again.
A while back, there was a really great videocard roundup that covered all the way back to 3dfx cards and I found it was a really good baseline comparison for when you are upgrading after a couple of years...
