Good to hear. My M1710 died 2 months out of warranty.
Read the fine print and LOL'd though: $2 Million settlement fund being set aside, and the lawyers are requesting $13 million in legal fees.
To all the poor lemmings who feel Kyle was harsh with the PR guy who was just doing his job, I say wake the fuck up! Kyle is not a journalist. He runs a tech website. He owes this PR jackass nothing. Its the other way around. Sure, maybe commodore came up with the 30% BS, but Dave was the jerk...
This is the best question to ask. Opening up a laptop is no where as easy as opening a desktop to swap a mobo. Besides, desktop mobos are easily ordered from plenty of vendors. Laptop parts usually only are offered by the manufacturer (or eBay) and the often rape you on the price. This is why I...
For my less technically challenged friends, I usually recommend the Maxtor OneTouch external drives. It will backup either on a schedule or manually by pressing a big silver button on the front of the drive. It also only backs up changed files. I believe it uses a customized version of Dantz...
Holy $H!+ , an 11 month old weighing 10 pounds? Didn't any bells ring in the pea brains of the rest of their scumbag friends & family? The mom still has her myspace page up. Those kids are so cute. Let the parents rot.
Since I switched to 1920x1200, I don't notice jaggies any more unless I stop to look at power lines or chain link fences in-game. But since I don't game to stop & gawk at the scenery, I don't care anymore. I do notice textures more now. AF has become more important than AA to me now. In some...
You must not leave home much. :p
Magazines have their place:
On the crapper
On the train / subway.
On a plane (because those in-flight moves are soooo good.)
Dr's office
Waiting at the DMV
In jail (umm, scratch that one. . .)
Always keep the laptop with you under the seat in front of you, or between your legs. NEVER put it in the overhead bins. People are so rude, they will take your bag and move it, smash it, or pull it out all together to make room for their shit. Don't carry a laptop bag thats so big that a...
XP/2000 Desktop: Windows backup app included with OS. XP's ASR option is excellent. And its free.
Server: BackupExec. (Windows backup app works but is a pain to automate when dealing with a rack full of servers.)
I'm not a steam user so excuse the noob question.
When you download a game off Steam, can you actually access the file(s) to back them up later? Re-downloading 2+GB over 768kb is sucky. Also, if you can access the files, are they actual executables like an installer, or some special encrypted...
Totally agree. 1710 is a waste if you aren't going for the 7950 (unless you need to move to 4 GB one day, which the 1705 can't do.)
Also, my 1710 gets 2+ hours on battery (websurfing on wireless, playing mp3's, and checking email.) Spining the DVD drive sucks battery big time though.
Neither Crucial or Kingston sell 2GB sticks for a 1705, but they will for a 1710. Even the part numbers for 1 GB sticks are different.
Also, from what I've read, no OS on the 1710 can use 4 GB, even Linux, as its a hardware limitation.
Normally, you can. But if you look at the drive on this HP, its not normal. Its got an angled bezel. Hopefully its removable and will take a standard drive. But probably not. . .
First DX10 mobiles will most likely be 8400/8600's. And based upon existing comparisons between the desktop parts, they are a bit underwhelming. In certain instances, the 8600 is outperformed by a 7600!
My friend's 9700, while visually cool and fast as hell, suffers from severe hot spots under...
I'm trying to figure out if you're serious or not. Vista on the rig in your sig will run like a pig (sweet rhyme!) Hell, Vista uses 500+ MB of RAM even with the Classic UI. I have a few laptops like that at work and they are worthless as vista boxes without upping them to 1GB min, 2 GB if the...
If Alienware is your choice, wait for the 9750. They are taking orders for them now. Due to ship sometime the end of this month, but expect back orders. For now, C2D > Turion.
I know your trying to save money & all, but a 1 year warranty is asking for trouble. After being burned, I will never buy a laptop without 3 years (and complete care if I expect to move it around a lot) no matter which manufacturer.
That said, get #1. 40 extra gigs for, ummm. . .stuff.
I too waited until the last minute to e-file using TurboTax and I got screwed by their e-file server problems. Luckily, my city has midnight mail drops and I was able to drop it off with 7 minutes to spare. :D Is TurboTax/Intuit to blame? Nope. I purposely waited til the last minute since I...
LOL, holy crap, I forgot how bad that game was, or even that it existed! What a let down after the masterpiece that is Wing Commander: Privateer!
Frickin' Clive Owen in some of the worst acting EVER! And the whole Full Motion Video gimmick? I've seen porno's with better acting, sets and...
Manufacturer: http://www.arima.com.tw/
Model: W830-DA
A few foreign resellers sell it also under their own name, but charge a boatload like AW. Arima won't sell to non-oem's apparently.
I don't regret buying Red Orchestra because its bad (Its only partly bad.) I regret buying it because the gameplay is an unbalanced version of BF1942. Sure its accurate and realistic, but that doesn't make the fact that armor maps are lopsided and boring as hell. Don't even try playing as an...
Medal of Honor: Spearhead & Breakthrough (Original Allied Assault was Awesome!)
Call of Duty 1 & 2. ($hi++y "upgrades" of MoH.)
Morrowind
Gary Grigsby's World at War.
Every MMO I've ever tried: UO, Everquest, Asheron's Call.
Red Orchestra
While serving in the Army back in the 80's & 90's, I attended a few presentations that used slides and the attending Generals would often stop the presentation and berate the presenter if he or she read off the slides. One General literally said, "Do you think I'm fucking blind? Do you think I...
Usually yes. Sometimes its a bushing that needs to be replaced, sometimes its just a screw that needs to be tightened. Check with your manufacturer. Or post your model here and maybe someone has experience with it.
I can see a desire to OC a laptop. It actually seems naive to think that people wouldn't want to. I personally won't do it. But the fact that they make gaming laptops and that so many are sold indicates that there is a strong desire not to be tied to your desk yet still have the power to game...
Naw, my skin's thicker than that. lol. I'm just sorry I posted a bad deal. I could have sworn the eBay ad was for a more powerful system when I first looked at it.
I have to assume that AW has more than those few systems returned that might be refurbished and put up for sale. Maybe not. I...
