The V40z is pretty old now though (but 4 885s sounds like a fun time). The generation after those have better lights out management with the iloms. If you want just a cheap x86 sun box, you can get a Java Workstation w2100z (dual cpus,8 ram slots, scsi AND sata drives) for around $150 bucks.

The DC PMG5 uses DDR-2 4200, and will except up to PC2-6400 sticks no problem (I had that very same model with 6GB of 6400). The DDR1 model G5s maxed out a PC-3200.

The ATI CCC will tell you the temp you need to worry about... (FYI: The 4850 is a pretty hot card, especially if its the reference board with stock heatsink.)

90% Isopropyl alcohol is perfectly fine for cleaning electronics.

Rubbing alcohol is about the only thing I can think of, then let it sit out for a while (day or 2).
