I thought I would write about my experience with Intel's x25-M. Last week I took the plunge and upgraded to a x25-M 80gb as a system drive. My configuration before was a Q6600 processor, 2GB or Ram, and a 150GB Raptor drive, and I was running x86 version of XP. Mostly I use Visual Studio 2008...
I think I am having the same problem.
WD 150 GB Raptor
ASUS P5 (Cant remember exact model)
nVidia 8800 GTS
Windows Vista 64.

At first I though it was my HD too, however Control Panel > System said I had new hardware, and it asked me to update it. When it finished it my...
I spend about 10-12 hours a day on a computer and the degree and frequency of pain in my hand from mousing is increasing. This seems to flare up primarily when I am working with spreadsheets and need to do a lot of clicking, copying, pasting. I wanted to know what alternatives people were using...
The 3065 should have came with a USB cable that has another connector type on the other end which plugs into the monitor. Im not sure what this other connector type is, but it is the same one thats on a printer I have. If you look on the left side of the minitor, on the back, you'll see the four...

I decided to stand to run the two LCDs in portrat display. I think this setup works a little better. Looking at the image you certianly cant appreciate how big it actually is. You can see the Calculator program running which should give ou some idea of the size in...
Wow....
I just bought the HP L3065c off eBay for $895 including shipping (See link below they have 11 more). I've been eying the 30" screen since they first came out, but I knew I would have to wait until I could get one for about $900 or less.

I took the leap and went with the HP 30". I found one on eBay for $850 + $50 shipping. (There were a few more if anyone was interested).
Some reason I made this choice?
1) Because I do mostly text-based work (coding/reading), I was worried that pixel pitch would cause eye strain I got eye...
Mr Wolf: Loved those Atari's!. I remember getting a tape drive which would let me write programs, and it would take about 45 minutes to load a game!
Xr7: You mentioned that Toshiba has the "normal" pixel layout, is that normal good like the Samsung or normal bad like the Sharp?
Garret Jax...
I think what seems to hold most people back is the worry about eye strain and text. I agree as well, having the HDTV option would be great and gives you a bit of a 2-for-1 deal. Any other personal stories would be greatly appreciated. Also, good to know about the Samsung vs the Sharp.
Currently I have two 24" Dells which are great, but I am planning to upgrade and I am trying to decide between the Dell 30" or something like the Sharp 32" 1080p. The biggest consideration is that I spend most of my day programming, writing, a web-stuff and not so much on games. I am worried...
I am still thinking the LeadTek might be the way to go. For the Hauupague you need to make sure you have the right model number to do QAM, and the Avermedia doesn't come with a remote.
HomeRun sounds like it would be pretty good, but I have a cable box and a ethernet in my room where my computer is so streaming it is no big deal. I never use all the PCI cards so that is not an issue either, and finally I like that the other Tuner cards come with remotes.
I was thinking of...
Basically I want to watch HD content on my computer so as I understand it the best option is to get TV Tuner card with QAM support. I am buying a Q6600, with a 8800GTS video card and will be running with a Dell 24" LCD before I upgrade to the 3007WFP in a couple of months. I've seen some things...
I'm an idiot. I bought the Raptor X about a month ago for ~170 (After 40 MIR) in anticipation of building a new rig after the Q6600 price drop. Still haven't built it, still haven't got my MIR. Grrrrr! What do they say, patience is a virtue?

If someone comes across another please let me know -- looking to buy a 3000WFP. They've been sitting at ~1250 now for a few weeks and I am hoping to get it lower.
Anyone try one of the 10% of SB coupons you can buy on ebay or will it not stack with this offer. There is $76 tax on that the total would come down to 1216...I know whats going to happen. I'll buy it and then a 35% off coupon will come out in the next week....

The 3007 is on sale right now for $1269.00 but has anyone seen it for any cheaper? I am waiting until July 22 to buy the rig that I would need to drive it so I am not sure if I should wait, or scoop it now. They seem go down to this price every few weeks but has anyone seen it lower?
MS
First of all, YES I have RTFMed this....
On to the rest. I'm trying to figure out if the 680 is worth going for over the 650. It's only maybe another $70, but if there is no benefit, why bother. Right now I have dual 24" monitors and will be upgrading to a 30". I figured a 8800 GTS would be...
This is what i've been worrying about. Any thoughts about tying myself over with something like a D805 ($60.00 @ New Egg) until September and then upgradng to a Q6600. Damn this endless cycle of "wait for something better"!
On the other hand I am thinking I should just pony up for a E6600...
So I was getting ready to buy an E6600 and I saw the price drop for the Q6600 on July 22. It's killing me to wait another month but I think it will have to be done. Looking at all the forums though it looks like people are pretty hyped up about the Q6600 which begs the question: will I be able...
I finally got an extra DVI card to run the extra HP2335 (23") I have, in dual monitor mode with my Dell 24".
Some things I can say if you have the HP, or have an opportunity to get one for cheap, is to save and get the Dell instead. Side by side there is really no comparison between the two...
I have an HP 23" and a Dell 24" which both have the same resolution. However, because of the different screen sizes the images are sized differently as they spans across both screens. Ideally what I would like to do is to have the monitors match up from top to bottom. Since my taskbar is at the...
Just wanted to thank everyone for their input. As much as I would love the 37" I think the difference in graininess has put me in favor of the 3007.
It is funny to think how big LCD's can get before they get TOO big. For programming at least I certianly will use ALL the space I can get.
On...
It looks like I can get my department to by me a new monitor. I've gone through all the threads (All 147 pages on the Westy!), been on New Egg and Delll about a 1000 times but I can't decide between the Dell 3007 and Westy 37". My decision would be made if I saw them sitting side-by side but...
The program has to be written with threads to take advantage of this. For mine, I do scientific HPC. For a single processor machine I am at 100% CPU load for days on end. Other that a few fragments of GC and meet times, double threads are running at close to 100% a piece.
1) I thought about posting it in the programming forum but you don't need to be a programmer to benefit from this, just have a MP machine since you could see improvements just by changing the JVM flags. Makes me wonder if the multithreaded java vs c benchmarks test with this.
2) Server flag...
I had written a multithreaded program but couldn't get it to run much faster than it's single threaded version, that was until I cam across a now-well documented jvm flag " -Xconcurrentio"
From what I understand this will dedicate a thread to a particular processor and go past some of the...
I see what is going on. The application is running on a 3.0P4 with HT and shows up as 2 CPU's. Running one instance only gives about 50% CPU ussage while running 2 gives 100%. Running two instances in parallel doesn't seem to be doubling my performance, maybe more like a 25% increase. So all...
I have been doing some java benchmarks on various machines I have and found it strange that My Dell 1300 laptop with a P1.8M processor was consistantly running my benchmark program faster than a P4 2.8Ghz Dell desktop. Both ran with the same settings and the same JVM. As well the desktop has...
I just wanted to thank everyone who helped me out with this. It gave me some ideas and insight. First of all I wanted to summarize the results for anyone who was interested (See: Benchmark TMI)".
I was however quite suprised that the mutli-core/chip system did as poorly as they did. This...
Sorry about the cross post but I wanted to get both the AMD and Intel Crowd.
I am hoping the community will help benchmark an application for me for my research and post results. Its in java, will take 3-7 minutes to run. Original link can be found here...

I am asking for help from the community to benchmark my application on their various machine, posting their results and setups. I have very limited computing resources which has impeded my work thus far; however I have been given a budget of ~3500-5000 and I need every dollar to count so I need...
Anyone know if there is a problem using an adapter with the 2405 oversees? I am going to be in Singapore which uses the UK plugs. Looking at the back of the monitor it says 100-220V. Does that mean it will adjust automatically or would I need to get a transformer? Don't want to fry my baby.

Anyone taken this on a plane yet? I was looking at the dimensions for carry on and it was ~ 55 cm, which is just under 22" -- looking at the padding I am guessing that this would be ~25" in width.
Best,
