I setup a Homegroup on my laptop a year ago. I have three PCs on my home network. Yesterday I noticed that the laptop was not on the Homegroup, but the other two were.
When I tried to rejoin the Homegroup I get the message "Windows cannot setup a Homegroup on this computer". In services.msc...
Reused and updated an old X-Qpack from 2005. It is a quiet gaming rig for my son:
Mobo: EVGA Z68 SLI Micro
CPU: i5 2500
Heatsink: Scythe Big Shuriken 2 (replaced the 120mm x 15mm fan with a Scythe 120mm x 25mm PWM fan)
Case fan: 120mm x 25mm NB PL-PS PWM fan
Memory: 8gb Corsair DDR3...
Another option is to get [H]ard and ghetto-mod that case if you want to have some fun. A dremel, a drill, some ingenuity, and some time can add some airflow to that case (just make sure you measure twice before you cut). 120mm intake fans on the side and a top mounted H60/70/80 are all options...
easiest option if you don't want a fan controller is to install an in-line resistor that reduces the fan voltage to 7v or 9v, lowering the fan rpm. (check frozencpu).
speedfan is a software option that may work. also, your BIOS may enable you to lower the fan speed.
Life is pretty good when your PC boots up too fast!
Maybe you can enable some functions in the BIOS that you currently are not using? That may gain you some time before the OS starts, or introduce an "error" (i.e. RAID array not detected) that will pause the boot up.
In four years HP will introduce bubble like memory, cheap OLED will be everywhere, and male pattern baldness will be cured. Instant on sounds like a pipe dream.
My Yamaha receiver is not 1.4 HDMI compliant, but it's not an issue. I run the video direct from the Blu-ray, HTPC and cable box to the HDTV with HDMI, and run the audio thru the receiver with optical/digital audio. Works great and I can watch 3d from all three components.

Look around on their site. They may have some HDD accessories / 3-bay kits that would fit in the 5.25 bays.
The Gigabyte solution is currently one of the best 2-slot coolers. The 100m fans have an advantage over the 92mm fans most other cooler have. It is not completely noiseless though. It will not match the Accelero for absolute silence as that is a 3-slot cooler. I've only seen gtx 580's with that...
you've decided on going plasma before seeing one?
drawbacks: in the "old days" plasmas were more subject to image retention and burn in (permanent image retention) than LCD. apparently not an issue any more. plasmas consume more power then LCD/LED.
check out AVS Forum. There is a lengthy...
I had the same/similar issue on the same mobo last week. Check out this thread:

Let me know if it fixes your issue.
I just know what worked for me through trial and error. I installed it with the center screw tightened prior to mounting and the heatsink felt loose. I removed it, loosened the center screw, remounted and it was a much tighter fit. I just had to tighten the center screw a bit. Trial and error.
Best way to mount this heatsink is to loosen that center screw all the way. Mount and tighten the corner screws, and then adjust the center screw to deal with any wiggle left in the heatsink.
you should try the games on your current setup and see if you are okay with the performance before you upgrade. things to consider with SLI:
what PSU do you have?
will your mobo & case allow at one PCI slot between the cards?
are you okay with higher temps/noise?
SlayVus: Maximum Memory was disabled. I could not find a tRL setting, but I changed the MCH strap to DRAM ratio . After I rebooted Windows now sees 12gb. I think that this particular EVGA board has problems correctly identifying this particular memory kit. When I installed it I had to manually...
Last week I upgraded my memory from a 6gb kit to a 12gb kit (12gb Corsair DDR3 1600 1.5v 9-9-9-24) on my EVGA x58 motherboard. after some initial hiccups with not posting, i reset the cmos, manually set the voltage, installed and booted one stick at a time and things have been fine.
Today I...
you don't need to overclock, but it's nice to have the option, and yes it can increase your performance 15-25%: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/dual-quad,1720-19.html
Understand it is a tradeoff with potentially more heat/noise/instability.
if you can afford two cards, go for it!
you probably have a lot over-clocking left in that CPU. no need to start from scratch unless your mobo is fried. try resetting the CMOS and test the memory. hopefully the hdd is not failing.
as far as upgrades (provided you have a legit Win 7 license):
1. definitely upgrade the video card...
turn down the brightness. i think manufacturers have really cranked up the brightness in the past few years. now it actually hurts when i turn a new monitor on.
i occasionally play 3d games on a 1920x1080 55in Samsung 3d HDTV. It is more immersive. my only 3d gaming experience is with Nvidia, so I don't know if AMD is dramatically different. a few things to consider:
1. frankly, the novelty wears off fast, given the need to wear clunkly glasses that...
not sure if this helps, but i was doing some research on 3tb drives, and apparently Windows 7 backup is/was having issues properly backing up with 3tb drives. something about 4096 vs 512 byte sector sizes.
replace. unfortunately, TV's aren't built to last these days. they also aren't built to be easily repairable. 5 years sounds pretty good, and the cost to replace will proably end up being cheaper than the cumulative total of repairs.
