Isn't that was Zoom Player Pro and FFDshow do? Take a look at some HTPC stuff, and you'll see that upscaling has been on PC's long before it was on set top players.

Every time I've had to transport mine (i.e. back to school and home again) I've always used the original box, if you don't have that, then I'd recommend bubble wrap with a something to protect the lcd itself.
