I do use an external source to turn it on and off with. I've done that for years. Ever since I had to pay about $150 to get a $5 on/off switch replaced on a monitor. Now I use an external that costs about $20. Pretty stupid of Dell to set it up this way. Thank you for letting me know. :)

Viewing angles are pretty poor on the Viewsonic. If you want to use it to watch movies you should sit in front of it. On the Dell they are better by far.

You're right about it not showing up in the pictures for the Viewsonic. It does show up on the monitor, but like everything else is darker than the Dell. I'm not sure yet which one I'll keep. Here's the way I see it right now Viewsonic +price (saves me about $500) +rich color +faster...

The Dell framing looks a LOT better; metal and very nice. The Viewsonic is cheap shiny plastic. I think it looks pretty bad, but I don't really care about that. Regarding the HD/Blue Ray thing, I don't have those, so I'm sorry but I can't test them.

I've had a history of *always* receiving monitors with dead pixels, but the jinx seems to have finally been broken. Recently I bought two monitors, a Dell 2707WFP and a Viewsonic VX2255wmb (for my wife's PC) and both had ZERO dead pixels.

Me too. It seems to be a trend in the industry to make the things so damned bright that they blind you. The ones on the monitors are the worst because your vision is directed at them.

I would NEVER keep a monitor that had any dead pixels. Most companies dead pixel policies are absurd in my opinion. It should always be that you get a free replacement for even one dead pixel. I will accept nothing less. If a company doesn't offer this, then I won't buy from them.
