Has anyone sent their lappy back to emachines for the cracked hinges/flickering screen issue? I sent my today and was wondering how long I should expect it to be gone. They told me 3 days for shipping each way and 5 days to fix the problem, for a total of 11 days. I had heard in the past that...
You could pull the HD out of the lappy and put it in an external enclosure. You'd be able to hook that sucker up to another PC and pull any files you need off the HD before you reformat it.
I picked up a 802.11b wireless router for $20 after rebates at Best Buy a little while ago. Best Buy and various office supply and computer hardware stores have rebates for their routers all the time. The one I bought was a Dlink, but hey, it's only for my one laptop at my home. I don't need...
My M6811 is one tough little laptop! I was in a car accident this past weekend and my GMC Jimmy rolled over. I had my laptop in the car, nestled in my Targus backpack, and it was thrown about 15 feet from the car. I thought for sure that it would never boot again, but there are no problems...
I don't think you're going to get a fast turnaround AND the credit. Either you go with emachines and get the fast turn around or you go with Best Buy and lose the laptop for a month or more.
I'm looking into buying an MP3 player. I've noticed a lot of people bashing the ipod, but I can't figure out why. The DMC just mentioned is the same price as the ipod, but everyone talks about how they're so overpriced. The ipod offers more features and is much slicker looking. So, it's HD...
Has anyone used the 101 or 201 models? I want to get one, my wife is set on it, but I want to know if they're any good from someone who actually has one.
I've got an M6811 with SP2 and I don't have any problems at all. It could be that you ghosted from your M6805. Theoretically they should have the same software, but who knows. I had a cracked hinge on my M6805 and traded it in for the M6811. I know when I had my M6805 it came with a trail...
From what I understand, the emachines laptops are not servicable by Best Buy, so they replace it if an issue comes in. They replaced mine for the cracked hinge issue and then again for an issue with my touchpad not working correctly. The emachines fall under something called DEVO or DIVO or...
I just exchanged mine and got a new M6811. I'm hopeing something goes wrong with it after the new ones come out. Perhaps I may have to "find" something wrong with it to exchange it. I have the service warrenty and each time I've brought it in they've been really good about swapping it out...
With emachines you have to send it to them, but with the Best Buy warrenty you can just bring it in to them and swap it. To me, it's worth the extra money.
I like the 1280x800 of my M6811. I think it's pretty much "just right." Every great once in a while I see something I wish I had a little taller screen for, but not very often.
I would definitely go with the RAM upgrade. No question. The CPU upgrade will go almost unnoticed at all, while the RAM upgrade should make a noticeable difference. No question about it, go with the RAM.
When I brought in my M6805, they swapped it with no problem. I had the service warrenty though. When it came down to the swap, they did it by price and pretty much nothing else. The M6810 was the same price then as the M6805 when I bought it, so it would have been an even swap. I opt'd for...
I have to exchange my 6811 again for a problem with the touchpad. It's not tracking as it should. It occasionally drops the pointer and I have to press my finger fairly hard to get it to recognize it. It's just not acting like it should, so I'm exchanging it. The problem I'm running into is...
I currently have the Targus mouse linked in the first posting of this thread. I hate it. It's occasionally unresponsive and it doesn't seem to track well. I've come to this revolation too late to return it to Best Buy where I bought it. I want to get a new one, but I want to make sure I...
The M6811 that I just returned my M6805 for falls within the serial range. I told the manager at best buy about the problem. He said that if it happens again, just bring it back and they'll give me another one. No problem.
I know there are lots of issues with installing SP2 on an M6805 unless you upgrade the bios to the M6811 bios. Does anyone know if there are any issues with upgrading an M6811 with the factory bios?
I just swapped my M6805 (cracked hinge) for the M6811 and went ahead and installed SP2 just...
I have to agree, I didn't have any problems swapping out my laptop. They were very accomodating to me. I do have a service policy with them though.
A friend of mine works there on the "Geek Squad" and told me that the service plans were crap if they had to send it out. When I bought the...
Last night I took my M6805 into Best Buy with a cracked hinge. They immediately offered to replace it, but they didn't have any M6805s. They offered an M6810 as an even exchange, but I went for the 6811 for $100 more. Actually, it was $200 more but there is a $100 rebate.
I checked the...
I noticed the crack in my hinge last night. So, do I just bring it to Best Buy and ask them to swap it? Should I pack it up in its box before bringing it back? Is there anything special I need to tell them? I do have the Best Buy service plan.
I'm within the range but haven't had a problem with the cracked hinge yet. You think they'd replace it just on the basis that it's in the bad serial range?
Jitsu, I'd like to see those pictures. You can post them here if anyone else wants to see them, or email them to me directly. My email address is [email protected]
I've got a 6805 in the serial range that has the hinge problems, but I haven't had a crack yet. If it crack though, I'll definitely bring it in and see if they'll swap it for a 6810 though.
Just curious, would they pull the HD in that situation or would I have to back everything up and wipe...
I'm interested in this as well. I have an M6805 and need a bag. I don't want anything too "briefcase like" and I'm not sure if I want to go to the backpack style either. I'd really like a messenger bag style or something someone casual looking. I will primarly be using it for school, but I...
A friend of mine works as a tech for Best Buy. He tells me that right now the emachines are Direct Vendor Replacements. Basically it means that if you have a service contract and something goes wrong with it, they just replace the unit with a new one instead of sending it back. He tells me...
AthlonXP, you mentioned a serial of #48 or higher? What do you mean? Do you mean that the serial number starts with the number 48 or higher? If so, then I'm screwed and my hinges will probably crack.
