Well, no one else has said it so I will chime in on this. SageTV Server + Sage HD Media Extender = Epic win. And yes, it also supports VOB. Look at it over at the SageTV page and browse through the forums to see everyone who just loves it.

Sorry that I can't be much help with the PS3, but I don't have one and thus have never fiddled with streaming to it. There are a few threads over on the FreeNAS forums about how to get the PS3 to stream video files from the server, so I assume it works. You'd just have to play with it.
