I had already changed my mind to the i5 3570K CPU.
But is Haswell close? How close? Is there going to be a price-drop on the IBs when they show up?
Thanks bassplayer, that's helpful info!

I'm getting ready to upgrade my desktop, and I'm not sure if I need to replace my RAM or not. I use my system both for development and programming as well as high-end gaming.
The system I have I built about three years ago, and I used 8GB of DDR3 1600 8-8-8-24- This stuff...
I have been gaming on Win8 since August, and I think it's great. At it's core it's largely just Win7, but some speed improvements particularly on SSD. It's a good OS, it doesn't crash, and has good driver support.
Thanks harmattan.
Yea, I get the advertising/branding aspect of the pricing. People are always willing to pay more for the name when they shouldn't. I was trying to determine if they offered something that went above and beyond just being the Nike of the laptop world. Is there...
Hello,
I've been researching a high-end gaming laptop and I'm narrowing down my choices but I still have outstanding questions about the "premium" brand name laptops versus the Sager or Clevo setups.
The price differential is really what is confuses me. I can build a Sager/Clevo model...
I'll second OrangeWolf
I have a Lenovo 14" Y480 that I bought about two years ago. Core i5, discrete graphics, and really solid build quality. It was an outlet that I paid only $800 or so for, great deal!
If you go outside the Y-series (which is really gaming/multimedia focused) you can save...
Oh that's interesting. I've been lurking those forums but not posting anything yet.
Did you just spec one out in that "Alienware Pre-Order" thread and get a response from their Rep? I thought you could only buy one through the Dell.com website...
I know, I know, another "pick the processor for me!" thread. But I've got to ask:
I'm buying a gaming laptop and wondering if the price jump to a 2.7 Ghz 3740 over the 2.4 Ghz 3630 is worth it? In actual gaming scenarios is there going to be a noticeable difference? Will I get a longer...
Mythlogic has been the front-runner for me currently, just based on online reviews and my comfort level with their website and build options (they're the only ones that let you build a No-OS system right on their webpage). Malibal or Sager would be other top choices for me.
I'm kinda...
Interesting. I also came across this post from about a month ago, which isn't exactly encouraging:
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Update-Radeon-HD-7970M-vs-GeForce-GTX-680M.87744.0.html
Hello Everyone,
I'm looking into buying a high-end gaming lapper, and I was wondering about the current state of the 7970m from anyone who's actually using one.
Based on what I can read online, it was a tragedy when it came out last year. Performance was good but driver support and...
Hey all,
My i7 860 and MSI P55-GD80 are on their way.
Is scraping off the gunk on the heatsink and using Arctic Silver still the preferred methodology?
Thanks!

Hey Guys,
So, the wife kinda gave me permission to go nuts for my b-day, and I took her up on the offer. I got a Newegg combo of an ASUS 25.5" VW266H & ASUS EAH4870 Radeon 4870. My PC already has an Intel Quad Core and 4GBs of 667 Mhz RAM (slow I know, but it's an older computer). I done...
I just got my Wind yesterday from Newegg. Here is my super quick review. I haven't used any ultraportable/netbook before, so this is a virgin review addressing the things I was most worried about.
-Screen is bright and easy to see, good viewing angles.
-Keyboard is small but...
Got it Brandon, Thanks.
Seems like a cool game. Little annoying my first real mission and I gotta hoof it across Galaxy City avoiding enemies three levels higher than me, but it seemed to work out okay.
I'm gonna flamed here but I think she ought to save her drinking money for another month or two and then scope techbargains.com and bensbargains.net for a good HP or Dell deal.
Here is one that came up, $400 for an almost brand-new setup. Everything but a monitor (which she already has)...
No fears.
The pickups handle all of the that. Electric (or Acoustic-Electric) guitars have been tunable through an electronic device for decades, it's actually a very easy thing to do electronically. All they need to do is wire a USB connector on the end of that tuner and your done.
Cranky One,
Until they raise prices it's just an extra free benefit they're giving us. Where is the greed?
I'm okay with it. I mean, I already pay for HBO and get to watch it on my TV, plus I get HBO On Demand. If they want to add an additional way for me to get access to their content...
Ahhhhh
It feels good :)
Initial thoughts:
-Went in without a hitch.
-Fan doesn't seem as loud as people complained about.
-Oblivion, max settings, clean install, 45-60 FPS outdoors (Praise Jeebus)
-CoD4, high settings, runs well. Anyone know how to turn on FPS in CoD4...
Well,
They were wrong, it didn't ship in one day.
It shipped THAT day! Came two days later. I haven't installed it yet, since I've been out of town, but I cannot wait!
Any suggestions for first fire-up on it? I'm gonna do CoD4 I think. I love me some CoD.
You know, it's easy to forget that our idea of "Maximum settings" is a moving target as well.
It wasn't too long ago that 1024x768 was the maximum resolution you'd even consider running a game at. I recall the first video card that allowed me to run Deus Ex at 32-bit color instead of 16-bit...
My past two cards have been XFX and eVGA cards and I've loved them. I've never owned a BFG card (until now) so I don't know how well it'll do.
I'll report back in this thread though.
Haha,
I also hate them, but I couldn't pass it up.
I forgot to post a link, here it is:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8594381&productCategoryId=abcat0507002&type=product&tab=2&id=1190678470708#productdetail
BestBuy.com had them in stock online, but not in my store.
So it's a good card then, and just a happy fluke that they're selling em so cheap? Good to hear...
BestBuy.com has the BFG 8800GT 512 for $237. Something seems wrong about that. Best Buy ain't usually the place to go for a good price, but that seems like a great price for a slightly OC'ed 8800GT (newegg has em for $280+).
Anyone know what the story is here?
[EDIT]
The GF just bought it...
Yea, there wasn't a lot of chance of me overclocking :) Not that I wouldn't want to, but I don't have the energy to play around with all of those settings.
My chipset is an Intel p965 (Gigabyte DS3). 4 GBs no issue right? It says so right on the box.
Well cool. That's good news about the card :) Although one mistake, my current card is a 7600 GT, not 7300.
I AM still excited. After all, it's a quad core and everyone knows that 4 > 2. :)
Thanks!
So a friend of mine has been working at Intel and got me a discounted Q6600 to upgrade me PC with. Here is my current setup, built last year:
Core 2 Duo E6300 (1.86 Ghz)
2 GB 667 Mhz RAM
nVidia 7600 GT
19" Widescreen (1440x900)
Since I'm getting the new CPU I'm going to upgrade my video card...
Bah, you can wash ANY keyboard and mouse, as long as you rinse them well and let them dry fully before trying to use them again.
Even if they don't dry completely, you'll just short circuits and they wont work until they do dry. There isn't enough power going through a keyboard or mouse to...
