I've found the solution to my problem! This might not be the case for you guys, but there was a single pin on my mainboard CPU socket that was bent very very slightly. I carefully realigned it and all works as it should. Svet from the MSI forums was the one to point me in that direction...
Copying my post in the MSI forums:
I have done the following with issues still unresolved:
BIOS is listed as version 1.2
Cleared CMOS
Loaded Optimized Defaults in BIOS
Installed each individual module in the first memory slot by itself (Correctly reads 2gb)
Installed various...
I cannot find a memory remapping option on the MSI GD65 either. This is a huge issue. Is there any workaround? I'm using 4 sticks of 2gb DDR3 1600 dual channel memory.
So I'm using 64-bit Windows 7, and windows performance/information screen says I have 8gb(3.99 usable), CPU-Z also recognizes 8gb. What does "3.99gb usable" mean? For what its worth, task manager also stats 4gb total.
I just installed 8gb of G.Skill Ripjaws DDR3 1600 and the bios on my MSI GD65 is only showing 4096 as well. Yes, it is dual channel ram on a dual channel board. Any suggestions?
Appologies,
1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
Medium amounts of gaming, minimum video/audio editing, watching 720p/1080p video.
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
<$900 w/ tax&shipping. Looking for best bang for buck...
I'm finally building a new system after 5 or so years (used to upgrade every 6 months back in the competitive gaming glory days). Just looking for some feedback if any of these components are a too much, too little, overpriced, incompatible, etc, for what I'm doing.
Mainly building this...
Yes, I've disabled all extra visual effects by going through Performance Information and Tools > Adjust Visual Effects > disable all options and still no luck.
so I just installed Vista Home Premium yesterday. I updated drivers and all, but when I scroll in irc, firefox, or ie with arrow keys, clicking on scroll bar, mouse wheel, etc it's rather laggy. Almost as if I don't have my vid card drivers installed(which they are). I've tried a clean install...
I had a problem with my eVGA 6800gt overheating to around 72c gpu/52c ambient idle and 90c+ gpu ingame and this was with no a/c in texas btw :P...so I put on some thermalpaste I had laying around, just a small thin layer on -only- the GPU and now its around 60c gpu/48c ambient idle and up to 77c...
hey, my 6800gt seems to be running really hot...71c core/51c ambient temperatures in windows...was wondering if there are any diagnostic programs out there to see if anythings running wrong, or if its running faster than default...I have the overclocking options unlocked, but it's not...
I have a problem with overheating on my eVGA 6800gt 256mb card...well its not a problem with the card, but my house :P I don't have A/C, and its a hot summer here in texas...but anyways, when playing WoW I freeze every few minutes for about 5 secs...I assume its my vid card because it was...
Just wondering what the optimal temps are for this chip...I have a XP-90 and a 92mm fan on it...holding at around 39-40c under loads without a/c in my house...I was happily suprised by this when I first saw it compared to my old system, might o/c a little soon.
Also, can anyone explain the difference between Clawhammer, Newcastle, and Winchester cores? I've been reading that winchester runs cooler than newcastle, but haven't heard anything about clawhammer
I don't plan on upgrading my cpu for a bit, so I'm guessing the 754 would do just right. Buying from newegg so the 3700+ is about $40 more. Thanks.
EDIT: Anyone have any ideas on some good heatsink/fan setups for minor overclocking?
Here's the deal. I have both of hese cards unopened and I am trying to find out which is better for my secondary gaming system. I plan on selling the other. I can't find a single place that sells the 9800pro -256mb-...I see benchmarks saying the 6800nu is better than the 9800xt, but they dont...
I am posting in here because I can only assume its the motherboard thats the problem...let me explain...Whenever I -reboot- my system, it freezes on bootup during the bios loading screen(I think you know what I mean, where it counts up the ram, cpu speed, etc)...I have turn turn off the power...
Ahh, good answer...but still comes the problem...people keep buying it because of the warranty, and they are thinking "hey if my overclock goes bad I can just return it"...and even if overclocking doesnt kill it, by the time old age does you'd probably want a new card anyway, or this one would...
Okay, many people are getting the BFG because of the lifetime warranty, and I wanted to find out if that warranty covered overclocking...most people told me "it should...it comes overclocked anyway, so I would assume so", but I went to check BFG's website ( www.bfgtech.com ) to get information...
a ti4200, it'll be a big change for me...I honestly will be happy with it no matter what...just want to get some input on it tho to see if its worth the extra $60-80 to get a new one.
My friend bought a eVGA 6800gt and is planning on selling it to me for $370, because he cannot overclock it past 380/1050(I think those were the numbers)...he put it in a shuttle with a 250w power supply....I was wondering if this is a good deal, considering the problem he had...I honestly am...
The card won't fry if I try it at 425/1200 and I just happened to get the unlucky card, right? and after all the posts I've read I guess I can assume that it'll run at ultra speeds(400/1100) on almost all cards, right?
Just trying to confirm things I have heard around the forums before I actually buy one.
eVGA's 6800gt can overclock to 400mhz+ core speed and 1100mhz+ memory speed?
eVGA, BFG, and PNY all use the same "template" or "reference design" for making their cards...so essentially they're just...
