Intel Readies Atom "Grand Ridge" 24-core Processor, Features PCIe 4.0 and DDR5

My NAS also runs VMs - but very basic, not high performance required ones. I would love double the IPC on my NAS while still 35w or so. Denverton isn't the most amazing CPU out there, despite the initial rave reviews of it. Must admit 24 cores is a bit much, honestly I'd be fine with 8, I just...

Intel Readies Atom "Grand Ridge" 24-core Processor, Features PCIe 4.0 and DDR5

Then it sounds to me, like you don't own a NAS ........... cause this hardware sounds like fun to me. I have an Atom based NAS and it's been wonderful but the processor inside it was first designed in 2016, it'd be nice to see some updates to this tech. I'd especially like to see the AMD v3000...

    AMD Ryzen 5 1600 (12nm refresh edition) *** 2/25 back at $85 shipped

I wonder if the $85 was just an anomaly?

Did some !@#ers just crank the price up $15 US in the last 36 hours?

How to adjust fan speed, 3 pins, AsRock H370? Possible?

I get the impression from the bios, only one port is capable of DC fan control, that port is also port 1, which is the only one strong enough to push the huge Sugo 08 fan. I don't understand why it's this difficult (or why gelid can claim their fan is "silent") In a tiny itx rig, it kinda...

How to adjust fan speed, 3 pins, AsRock H370? Possible?

I didn't have any luck there, no noise change, isn't SpeedFan old?

How to adjust fan speed, 3 pins, AsRock H370? Possible?

I'm getting conflicting reports across the internet on this. The one consistent piece of data is "hey, it has to be voltage lowering in order to do this" I'm _very_ ok with that, I just want something. You're the first to imply it's becoming less common due to PWM. Can anyone else please...

How to adjust fan speed, 3 pins, AsRock H370? Possible?

Note: I'd prefer someone who has actually DONE this with a 3 pin? Not just read up, cause for me, AsRock software and bios was worthless.

How to adjust fan speed, 3 pins, AsRock H370? Possible?

I purchased 2x of these. https://www.newegg.com/global/co-en/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835426032 "GELID Solutions Silent5 FN-SX05-40 50mm Case Fan" I've plugged them in to an AsRock H370 board and I'll be damned if I can figure out how to slow them down. I don't mind them moving a low...

The Radeon Technology Group (RTG) has received its first Zen 2 sample!

I know it's only early but that's disappointing. Either they fix up the IPC at least 5 / 10% or they push that number a bit higher. Hopefully, very hopefully, this will be resolved in 6 months time. Also, to be honest, considering rumoured, potential launch dates, I'm surprised this wasn't at...

Intel 10nm/7nm CPU/GPU Rumor Thread : Cannonlake, Icelake, Tigerlake, Sapphire Rapids, etc.

I wonder when we'll see a 6,8 or 10 core Desktop (not workstation,...) processor that's smaller than "14nm+++" (no, 14nm+++++++ doesn't cut it) No, not mobile either. Next year, right?

AMD launches Zen+ 12nm Ryzen and X470 motherboards

AMD made a foolish decision with this naming convention (or perhaps the server guys did) The new "Epyc embedded" processor which looks great for your NAS, extremely high end router, mini servers and so on, is the "Epyc 3000" series. So you'll end up with Ryzen 3000 and Epyc 3000 in a year or...

    Intel's 8th Generation Core Family - Coffee Lake (LGA 1151, 6C/12T)

Does anyone with a Z370 have a regular 2.5 or 3.5" HDD in Windows 10 they want to SPIN THE DAMN THING DOWN? Mine is in there for backup purposes only, I literally write about 2TB a week on Sundays and then prefer it to spin down. I've even gone as far as to remove the drive letter and still...

    Intel's 8th Generation Core Family - Coffee Lake (LGA 1151, 6C/12T)

You must be running at 8k resolution or your memory is DDR4-100mhz or god knows what in the 8700k. I can understand the i7 920 overclocked was a nice beast but I mean it's literally 7 or 8 years old, 4 core vs 6. Something isn't right with that, it makes no sense (I do see your low fps in...

    Intel's 8th Generation Core Family - Coffee Lake (LGA 1151, 6C/12T)

Anyone else got the AsRock cheap board? I don't understand why NONE of my cores are turboing according to HWMonitor 1.33? Nothing is exceding 2763mhz, I'm baffled? New BIOS? I'm lost. EDIT: Solved, hope it helps others. I found it - thanks for making me persist guys, darnit phew. The...

    Intel's 8th Generation Core Family - Coffee Lake (LGA 1151, 6C/12T)

No, I mean the frequency of the cpu? I thought all core turbo is like, I dunno over 3ghz? The ram, seems to be working correctly at 3000, but I can NOT seem to get a single core on this damn thing to exceed 2800?surely turbo mode kicks in now and then?

    Intel's 8th Generation Core Family - Coffee Lake (LGA 1151, 6C/12T)

I'm not trying to be a moron guys but what am I doing wrong? I never see the CPU exceed 2760mhz? I went into the Asrock ITX bios (I did get the cheapest one they offer, I admit) and enable a turbo mode. I don't see multi-core enhancement. I mean the machine seems ok to me but am I missing out...

    Intel's 8th Generation Core Family - Coffee Lake (LGA 1151, 6C/12T)

Read a couple of posts / reviews which seem to indicate with some Z370 bios I could force an i5-8400 to "lock" at the Turbo Freq (4ghz) but for ALL 6 cores, not just 1 - does anyone know about this trick, does it work on non K chips? Does it work at all?

    Intel's 8th Generation Core Family - Coffee Lake (LGA 1151, 6C/12T)

Well regardless, I'm one of the 'bad guys' who (currently) prefers Intel over AMD regardless, but in my opinion it's the smarter buy, to get the CFL right now (5 days) than Ryzen - but it's purely based on my needs. As a non GPU guy who stopped playing games on desktop but likes a REAL snappy...

    Intel's 8th Generation Core Family - Coffee Lake (LGA 1151, 6C/12T)

The SMT and the lack of H and B370 chipsets, /slightly/ validate your argument. None the less, the GPU, IPC and lack of buying a potential segfault special, tells me the 8400 is the wiser choice.

    Intel's 8th Generation Core Family - Coffee Lake (LGA 1151, 6C/12T)

It's an inferior product to the 8400, without a "free" video card. It needs to drop urgently.

    Intel's 8th Generation Core Family - Coffee Lake (LGA 1151, 6C/12T)

No, I didn't - I "lost" hyperthreading / smt, vs the AMD 1600 - but I have the same amount of cores for the same money. Also I thought implying the Intel GPU was "free" in quotation marks, was self explanatory. Selling well now, it's about to become a very unwise buy. The 8400 is going to...

    Intel's 8th Generation Core Family - Coffee Lake (LGA 1151, 6C/12T)

They are $259 for the identical z270 model here (AUD) which kinda sucks, because they should be $220 / $230. The Strix z370 will no doubt, be $269 or even as high as $289 for opening month :/

    Intel's 8th Generation Core Family - Coffee Lake (LGA 1151, 6C/12T)

Intel onboard GPU is capable of 3 video outs, 4k for at least 2 (if not all 3?) of them, it does h264 / h265 decode and encode if I recall. It's even capable of very, very basic games. It's ENTIRELY "free" The Intel CPU has a better IPC to boot. So,....... the AMD 1600 needs a REAL price drop...

    Intel's 8th Generation Core Family - Coffee Lake (LGA 1151, 6C/12T)

The 1600 needs to be $140 US or cheaper to be a bargain now. The 8400 will likely beat it in most things and comes with a "free" video card - which is relatively competent. If you're a non gamer (me) than being forced to buy a GPU for the 1600 isn't cool
