Leave the stock baseplate and backplate on, as well as the stock shroud. You're basically using the AIO cooler from the hybrid kit but not the EVGA shroud. This is what I plan to do when my hybrid kit arrives on Wednesday.
I think I mentioned earlier in this thread that even w/ the 1080ti Forza Horizon 3 can't maintain 60fps. Well... I turned off MSAA and downsampled from double my native resolution (5120x2880). The game now runs at a damn-near rock solid 60fps and looks way better than it did with multisampling...
I think so. I am very close to pulling the trigger on the 1080 eVGA hybrid and doing what this guy did:

I STILL can't get FH3 to give me a solid 60+, even with the 1080ti. My GPU and CPU are both working at about 50-60% while I play the game so it's something to do with their engine.
If you leave them at the stock clocks they're pretty damn quiet. If you get aggressive with the OC and fan curve they are very audible. I have mine set to max out at 70% speed. With my headphones on I can't hear them while gaming, but the noise is there. If you're really worried about noise I...
Got my 1080ti in today. Here are some quick comparisons vs my OC'ed 980ti. The 1080ti is currently at +105Mhz on the core (for max of 1990) but thermal throttling is keeping it in the mid-1700s. I'll probably put a hybrid cooler on it sooner rather than later. Even with the thermal throttling...
The button works for me. Thanks for the link.
Edit: I was also surprised about the tax. I'm a but bummed about that to be honest. Here in TN we have a 9.25% sales tax. I also have to pay tax at Amazon and Newegg.
I wish we knew more about pricing on the partner boards w/ aftermarket cooling. I also wish we knew more about the "improvements" in the FE cooling.
I think I'm going to go ahead and try to snag a pre-order from nvidia. I'll cancel it before it ships if the partner boards look like a better deal.
I've had interest from a few forum members at $650 but ultimately no takers. I'm going to try bumping again before listing on eBay. The warranty on the laptop is good through December 2017.
I recently received a Dell XPS13 laptop as part of a promo offer associated with some training I did for work. The laptop is still sealed in the box. It's the 2015 late-refresh model as reviewed here. The full specs are listed in the attachment showing the packing slip.
As far as I can tell...
Absolutely:

This video is a bit washed out as I recorded it during the day but you can tell that the transparency in the rocket trail is rendered much better.
Here's a video showing the issue in Rocket League:

After comparing the Swift with my TN panel it appears the issue is worse than I thought. There is something weird with how the Swift displays transparencies.
Here's a picture from the ROG Swift:
And...
I will try to take a picture and/or video to show exactly what I see when I play RL. I'm still thinking I'm going to have Best Buy replace the monitor. I'm a bit nervous though because my current Swift has very minimal backlight bleed.
Hmm sounds like I may need to just get a replacement then. I have a dead pixel that I hardly ever notice, but I notice the issue with the vertical lines on a daily basis.
Is the pixel inversion issue the same thing that I describe in this post? I really want to love these 27" WQHD G-Sync panels but the pixel inversion issue is maddening. I also really don't want to deal with the QC issues on the high refresh rate IPS panels.
I've had my PG278Q for around a month now. I generally love the monitor, but there is one nagging issue that is driving me crazy. During fast motion with lighter colors I notice vertical lines on the screen. It's almost like a screen door effect but it's only vertical. There's a huge thread on...
I understand completely about the matte coating. I'm still trying to decide if I'm going to keep my Swift due to how harsh the matte coating is on it. I often forget about it when I game but every once in a while I notice it and it's very jarring.
I agree. I've finally settled on two monitors - an ASUS PG278Q for gaming and a Dell U2715H for most everything else. I tried gaming on the 34" ultrawide Dell and the IPS glow combined with the back light bleed ruined the experience for me. I'm happy with my current setup.
Thanks for the in-depth comparison! I recently bought a Dell u3415w to replace my Asus VG236h. The colors and black level/shadow detail have always bothered me on the VG236h and I was enamored by the 21:9 aspect ratio. The Dell is certainly an awesome monitor, but I've apparently become spoiled...
My EVGA card came with a .... wait for it.... 58% ASIC! I was able to give it +250 on the core and +400 on the memory without any issue, but if I try to push it much further than that it doesn't do very well. It's still a beast of a card but I wish I could OC it more. Maybe I need to try...
I recently went from SLI 680s to a single 970, and I will never ever go back to SLI. Just too much of a headache. I'm about to upgrade to a 980Ti in the near future. It's tempting just to get another 970 but my SLI experience was not good.
I use the Skullcandy Slyr headphones:

They're very decent, especially for the price. I got them on sale for 50% off though. The cord has started to annoy me so now I'm beginning to research wireless options.
I've been waiting and waiting for news on the upcoming AMD cards, but I finally just went ahead and ordered a 970 to hold me over for now. I'm coming from SLI 680s so overall performance will be lower, but SLI compatibility issues were driving me insane.
This is me. I'm still on x58 / i7 920. Even five years out, I don't have a true need to upgrade, but I think Haswell-E will finally tip me over the edge. I'll go "low-end" wiht hte 5820k.
