I have around 3TB of multimedia scattered across 8 drives on 2 different machines. Last night one of my 500GB drives ate itself and I'm once again thinking about RAID/backup solutions to prevent this from happening again.
I've been reading forums and window shopping at newegg for a couple of...
My 680i is squealing like a stuck pig so I'm sending it back to newegg. Any recommendations for a solid intel motherboard for around $250 that would handle a modest overclock on a Q6600?
I'm looking at the ASUS Maximus Formula, mostly because I've had good experiences with ASUS in the past...
So I just upgraded to a Q6600 and an Evga 680i SLi motherboard. I'm getting random bsods (page faults, stop errors, etc) which suggest bad memory, but multiple loops through memtest show no problems.
After looking around the web a bit I'm realizing that nearly everyone is having problems with...
This summer, as an extension of my website, I'm going to work on creating a video card pricing engine. The idea being that you'll be able to compare video cards side by side, and see all the prices at all major retail outlets right there next to the cards specs and benchmarks.
Several other...
Kyle and Brent are calling it a flop, but lots of other sites weren't quite so negative...what do you guys think?
I added a choice to your poll so it was a bit more even in choices. :) - Kyle
I have a Gigabyte turbo-force 7900 GT with factory clocks of 525/720 and an Evga 6800 GT AGP I'd like to part ways with.
The 6800 GT is just sitting around gathering dust, make me an offer if you're interested.
The 7900 GT is only a couple of months old, has a Zalman fan and is in perfect...
I have a Gigabyte Turbo Force 7900 GT with a Zalman fan (GV-NX79T256DP-RH) that I'd like to part ways with. I've had it for 2 months, it's never been overclocked, and I have all the original packaging/accessories including a copy of Quake4 and PowerDVD. The card is in perfect condition...
I have 3 compu.ters, two of which have onboard gigabit ethernet adapters, and one with a PCI ethernet adapter. I've run tons of speed tests with iperf and there are bizarre irregularities with the speed I get from compu.ter to compu.ter. Testing to/from each pair of computers, some run at a...

For anyone who hasn't witnessed the difference first hand, these two videos show you exactly what the difference is...the 7900GTX is relatively silent and undergoes no audible changes in fan speed while playing oblivion...the xtx on the other hand...
Anyone who bought one of these cards, cast your vote, let's see how big of an issue availability really is.
EDIT: To fallguy and rick...especially considering how much longer the x1900s have been out, I think this is a fair way to judge the situation...do you guys agree?
Oh and if you have...
I think both are on an equal performance footing, but ATi has HQ AF and HDR+AA. However the GeForce is much quieter and I still prefer SLi since it seems to be scaling better and is a more mature platform...
My vote goes the GeForce, but really only because of noise.
What do you guys think?
We all know it's coming, here are some early tidbits:

For those interested, I noticed GeCube now has an X1800XT "extreme edition" on their site:
http://www.gecube.com/products-detail-sas.php?prod_id=41580#Specification
I was expecting more than 660Mhz core (and they don't list the memory speeds), but it's still a nice little bump over a stock...
Has anyone seen any site with shots of HDR+AA running? Or screenshots?
Has anyone seen any site with a x1800xt crossfire edition? or crossfire benchmarks?

Is it just me, or did they just say the GeForce Go 7800 GTX was a 90nm chip...and only clocked at 400mhz? is this right?
Hey guys, I couldn't sleep...so made a little thing to easily compare image quality between different screenshots of a game...
This is just a test right now, but I'm curious what you guys think about the idea...so if you have firefox, check it out and let me know...

I've been tweaking my little card info doodad to show information on all retail cards based on a given reference card. It's taking forever to get all the retail cards in, but I have all the 7800GTX's in that I know of so if you're...

What's with all the rumors about ridiculously clocked cards coming this fall...first R520 is 600Mhz+ and now G71 is 800Mhz? You've got to be kidding me.
Dave over at B3D has an article up speculating that there are more than the announced 24 pipes in G70. One person pointed out the following hardware ids from a couple different sets of drivers:
Note that the top model of each line of cards ends with 0.1...and note that the 7800GTX ends in...
Here's the inquirer article
Here's the benchies
Here's my e-mail to Fuad.
Silly Fuad...the benchies are practically worthless IMHO...I have no idea why anyone would benchmark a $1500 videocard rig at anything below 1600x1200...
EDIT: Sorry to be hating on Crossfire in yet another...
Inquirer Article
Just read this at the Inq, and I've been thinking the same thing for quite some time. It seems to me that ATi's strategy as of late has been to develop cores on the fastest possible process and to offset the riskiness/low yields of the process by disabling some pipelines to...
http://www.theinquirer.org/?article=23522
Right, so...exactly how high can you go with AA before you can't really tell a difference anymore?
And can they really do such a thing without taking a performance hit vs a performance gain with multiple cards?
Sounds like a really cool idea...
Ok so I'm working on this project...and I finished one part of it...so I thought I'd let you guys check it out and let me know what you think...it's still in its infancy (I still have lots of cards to add and it doesn't show disabled pipelines yet), but you can get some pretty good info out of...
So Hexus has an article dishing up some more info about AMR/MVP from ATi here (there's already a thread discussing it here)
I was just wondering what the general concensus was on the situation.
http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=22151
Pushing the price/performance ratio to ever more absurd levels...apparently those dual 6800ultra and dual 6600GT cards will be able to run in SLI with another like card...for FOUR GPUS...
At the very least I think it's safe to say ATi won't be...
Is there any place to give feedback on nvidia drivers? Like there are some bugs I'd like to report, but they don't have a customer service department to my knowledge...any ideas?
So suddenly after months of bitching shader replacements suddenly became perfectly OK when ATi implemented them in the latest driver...
Now after months of bitching about nVidia's "inferior bridged design" ATi will be making a bridge chip to turn PCI-E parts into AGP parts and vice versa...
