I was planning on it -- but I might wait another year and see what develops -- I just need a boost in my 1680x1050 gaming -- so the GTS card should suffice.
So I think I misunderstood my mobo specs..I think I can use AMD X2 right? Here is the quote from the Asus page:
"Socket 939 for AMD Athlon 64FX / Athlon 64 /Sempron/Athlon 64 X2
AMD Cool 'n' Quiet"
I've always been a wuss when it comes to OCing -- I didn't want to create a mobo that runs too hot or has crashes -- my system has been VERY stable the past 2 years.
Hi Skadebo,
My CPU, don't laugh, is an AMD Athlon 64, 3000, 1.81GHz -- is there a better one, that is worth the time and effort, I could/should put in my mobo?
Thanks for the advice.
Would this card be good?

Is it worth the premium over the MSI card listed above?
Hey guys,
I have an Asus A8N-SLI Premium mobo that is about two years old and still running like a champ -- but I want to upgrade my nVidia 7900 GT (256MB) vcard so I can play at a nice 1920 rez on a 24" monitor.
Any suggestions? It appears as though I only have PCI-Express, so I guess...
So I have decided to create a SFF gaming box but I can't decide on the RAM. I just want to get something that is reliable, possible to OC with a Shuttle SFF and that is is below $140, preferrably below $100. But OC'ing is very low on the list of priorites...fast and stable are what I am mainly...
Exactly.
Not only is the ICE a fantastic, custom cooling solution, it saves you from having to buy a heat sink and fan to do the job.
I guess the only thing I am not 100% on is the RAM.
Yes I used to feel the same way, but interestingly enough these 3rd party manufacturers are very much like those that make non-name brand prescription drugs...theya re the same thing, jsut rebranded and thus the savings are passed onto the customer. While I know these cards aren't identical, I...
Some manufacturers still use floppy disk and besides, $8 isn't my biggest concern with this build.
With regards to Rosewill, I have heard lots of great things so I see no reason not to trust them.
Add'em,
That is cool to hear. What, fi anything, are you doing differently?
Barrok,
That...
logan,
that is a great tip...but I had a cheaper case, a nice $49 Antec..but I have to be honest, I want something nice to look at. ;)
And secondly, silence is kind of important to me so I wanted to be sure to get a decent PSU, and the Antecs come highly recommended.
Hey guys, I have the following config so far, but I can't seem to settle on a mobo/RAM combo. Minor OCing would be fine (Ive never done it, so Im not hard core). I prefer stability over OCing ability.
1) Stability
2) SATA
3) On-board audio (this will be a gaming rig nothing more; no need...
Ah..I think I found it, but I'm still not sure what are the benefits...Native Command Queueing? From what I have read it is a nice to have, but the gains seem nominal at best right now. But how would I know if a Mobo supports it or not?
What is NCQ?
And from these two reviews, it doesn't seem as though the Soltek is missing much at all.

If the Chaintech is better I don't mind...
Thanks Mav,
I always aprpeciate it when someone explains their recommendation. But after reading numerous reviews and postings, I think the Soltek mobo will be perfect for me. ;) Now I just need to find the right RAM to go with it...after all..I might do a little tweaking. ;)
Wow..that is good info to know..and that sucks to know!
Sooooo...is it worth it to pay $70 more for the retail package that is the 3200+? Is the retain fan/hs any good?
Yeah I was about to comment on that as well.
But it does remind about the CPU...do I need to buy a fan for it? I assume since it is the OEM versiona nd not retail it won't come with a CPU fan, or what?
Stellar,
Thanks for the response.
Would you minf explaiing why you don't like an OEM board? And what RAM you would recommend to go with either mobo you suggested?
Thanks. ;)
Yeah im cosnidering that one as well. Most people seem to point to Asus as being the most stable and DFI being the most tweaker friendly. I am more for stability than OCing.
I posted a thread earlier and some people were very helpful...but I still can't decide on a good mobo. I don't plan on doing OCing because I don't want to fry anything..so just stable mobo with pci-e, sata, on board audio and enet is what I am looking for...plus it would be nice if the...
And the ASUS board looks sweet, but I hate fans on the northbridge..can you recommend a good one with a heatsink only?
And regarding the RAM, you figure the budget ram is better than the corsair?
Astern,
I could not agree more. When I say overpriced I feel like the cost/benefit of OCZ isn't realized.
And I did some more research and indeed it seems AMD IS the way to go for gaming..I never really knew that..so thanks. ;)
Thanks for the feeback so far.
I think I am leaning towards PCIe for sure.
I am not sure about going with AMD...it just seems in my experience that while the Intel chips cost more, there are less issues with them..is this still true?
And I think the 520 watt PSU is a bit much and OCZ...
Hey all,
I have been looking through the threads for a a couple weeks now and I have had a hard time figuring out what kind of system I should build.
Here are my details. I have a killer Mac that I love, but we know they all suck for gaming. I love to play MMO's for the most part and the...
Hey all,
I built my machine a little over a year ago and I want to add some RAM. However I can't remember what kind I put in...I know it's Corsair but I don't know the other specifics.
Thanks for any help. :)
