    What's faster: two C300 128GB SSD's in RAID0 or two M4 128GB SSD's in RAID0 ?

As with the single drives, it depends on whether you're talking linear speed or random.

OpenSolaris derived ZFS NAS/ SAN (OmniOS, OpenIndiana, Solaris and napp-it)

that may be on the initial setup page in a drop menu, but it doesn't show up on the config page in nexenta now. Basically you follow the imap/pop directions for setting up an email client (forget which offhand).

    Recommendation for an 80-100gb SSD for a mobo w/ SATA I (1.5gb/s)

Intel 320 series 80gb, or something used. I would have said the x25-m but if it's available it's more expensive than the 320 the few stores I looked.

    Help with Cisco air-ap1131

Thats what I was afraid of. Guess I'll worry about that after I figure out why the wireless quits on me. Looking at the lights now (only the .11g radio active) and it looks like the light is going yellow when the 802.11g network stops, which according to the booklet indicates IOS errors...

    Help with Cisco air-ap1131

I just received a new air-ap1131AG from a seller on ebay. It came with system software 12.3(2)JA2, but the most recent is 12.4.25d-JA. What do I need to do to get the new version after creating an account? This is for home use and I'm starting to get the feeling that I'll wind up needing a...

Test 2tb Hitachi Drives before adding to RAID 5

I've always just created the array and loaded it up, formatted it and loaded it back up a few times while checking the stats on the drive. This also stresses the drives in the array with the controller so you see if there are any weird issues with disks dropping from the array.

Best Media Center Display for Small Apartment

Costco has the Panasonic 42" GT25 plasma on sale for $680+tax. If possible I'd keep the 2005fpw for browsing/etc and get a ~40" HDTV for everything else. You'll appreciate the size for movies/tv/gaming assuming you have the room.

question about NAS and network drive mapping

You can tell windows to remember your credentials and it will save the mapping until you delete it. The NAS can be off or spun down, you'll only see a little window that pops up near the clock that says "couldn't connect to all network drives" that goes away after a few seconds when you start...

Cisco SG300-20 or other gigabit switch?

Not sure how in depth the CLI is on the SG300's, but it's got a console port on the back and a note on the data sheet says "Cisco Discovery Protocol, Smartports, and Textview will be available in the next firmware release." Thats a few months old at this point, so I assume it's been added but...

Cisco SG300-20 or other gigabit switch?

I've been looking at picking up a 16-24 port gigabit switch that supports trunking, vlans etc. for home use. I've looked at the Cisco SG2/300's, HP 1810g-24 and the Dell 2816 and 2824 switches, and it seems like the Cisco's are the best buy (layer 3'ish features, same price as the HP) but...

Advice needed - zfs based media server

With Nexentastor and Nexenta I can max out gigabit ethernet with samba transfers to Windows 7. I was seeing sustained 110+MB/s (measured from connection percentage) in a chain that looks like this: Marvell Yukon 88E8053 onboard lan -> HP gigabit switch -> 100ft cat6 run to a DIR655 in the...

BIOS Software Coming to the End of the Road

    ZFS and streaming

Bumping this to give my experience so far. Playing an MKV while loading data onto the array (loading at ~110MB/s sustained while not playing) is no problem. Clicking 30 minutes ahead on the seek bar takes a few seconds, but playback is smooth. Blurays had a little hitch once in a while when...

Reliable 2TB internal drive for media files storage…?

When people say that they're usually just comparing BER's from the manufacturer which are the same for 1tb and 2tb drives. those numbers are total marketing bullshit anyways.

*Official* Norco data storage products thread

There is a small amount of airflow without the rear fans on, but not as much as I would like, or expect. I've noticed that those rear fans seem to be pulling air into the case through the rear vent and pci slots so those are covered for now (enough pressure that it will hold a sheet of paper...
