I know what your going through bro. my first replacment is on its way. If its worse than the one I currently have I'm sending the replacment back instead and just living with the one I have. This is too frustrating for me. LOL It looks great in UT 2004 and I have tons of room in Cubase SX now so...
Yes I do agree... games simply rock out and this monitor will make all my friends who hate LCDs want an LCD. However the backlight was just too annoying for me.
Thanks everyone for the advice. The support girl on the phone was really nice and considerate so I decided to take her offer and get an exchange. They are sending me another 2001fp and it should be here Friday. Keeping my fingers crossed.
Mike
Thats the camera. It sucks at taking dark pics. But the backlight problem was bright enough to get the camera to pick it up. I was surprised my camera saw it. My camera sucks... it looks worse in person.
Another question: If I got an exchange do I get another 21 days to return it or am still within the 21 days of the first purchase. If I would get another 21 days I would try an exchange and give Dell another shot.
The 20inch Viewsonic is sopposedly better anyway plus it has deeper blacks (from what I hear). I'm thinking of just getting a full refund. I'd rather pay an extra 100 bucks for an LCD that has deeper blacks and better backlighting.
After thinking long and hard I've decided that even though I have no dead pixels I can no longer stand the uneven backlighting of the 2001fp. The icing on the cake was when my mom even pointed out the backlighting issue and she can't see any of the little things us people point out all the time...
Thanks for the post. The backlight is pretty annoying. I have a week to decide wether I want a refund or extange or live with this LCD. It's up in the air for me.
What is flexing the plastic base/bezel? What does that do? Some other guy did something similar but I hear it doesn't really help. What exactly do you do? Brightness at 0 and brightness at 100... there really is no difference in terms of the backlight leaking. You can turn the brightness and...
Note: Those white dots arent dead pixels its my shitty camera. I will give Dell some credit... my 2001fp has no dead pixels but come on! Would you rather settle for 1 or 2 dead pixels at 1600x1200 or have to settle for this horrible backlight?
Hey everyone,
Just wanted some thoughts here...
Forgive my grainy images. My camera sucks at taking pics in the dark but you can still see the wild backlight issue of the 2001fp. I would love this monitor if it didnt have this problem and it looks worse in person. I'm thinking of...
Sandman,
What a great informative review. Thanks a lot! I'm considering refunding my 2001fp to get one of these viewsonics. I have a few questions...
How deep is the black? How deep is the black on the screen compared to the black when the screen is off? (not so good on the 2001fp)
Is...
very true but watch out for backlighting... if you never thought of backlighting as an issue with a screen just pick up a 2001fp. You'll see what I mean.
Everyone, including myself, has been going on and on about flaws in the 2001fp? Well I noticed my 1703fp which has zero dead pixels and perfect backlighting was made in Mexicio while my 2001fp at home with absolutely horrible backlighting was made in China. What do you guys think? Am I on to...
Hey Man,
My 2001 fp has horribile backlight bleeding at the top. An area of three inchs and 2 other areas about 1 inch in size. It's really bad when you watch a wide screen movie. Wait till you see the pics (I'll be posting them soon). I'm still within the 21 day period so I'm debating wether...
The Iiyama 20.1 is 25 ms not like the viewsonic and dell 16 ms rating.
I have a Dell 2001fp and its a real shame because it has a beautiful picture and great brightness and is surprisingly amazing for gaming. The screen door thing doesn't bother me but it has this really annoying backlight...
well my 1703fp at work... u couldnt tell the difference between a blank screen saver and when the monitor was off... the blacks were so good. the 2001 u can tell easy. Maybe im being overly picky but whatever. If I can get some cash up I might buy another one and keep the better of the two...
If it made no difference with the computer turned on then what was the point in "fixing" it LOL
any problems with dark colors and glare?
Lemme know what dell says
thanks bro
Lucky bastered! My backlight is anything but uniform. I have bright areas all over the top of the screen. You only really see it on a dark (almost entirely black) screen though. The color is vibrant and bright but dark colors are not as good. Black is not deep enough even with brightness and...
yea im with you... as long as the backlight issue doesn't get any worse I can live with it the picture is bright and vibrant and you can only see the bright backlight spots on a black screen... its not noticable on other colors or graphics. Plus this monitor does not have one dead pixel and...
I got my 2001 fp today... i got that sale for 750 with free shipping. it came 2 days early. I love this screen. I see the screen door effect you guys all complained about and it isnt that bad. it does however make the monitor look less clear. Games run good. A little blur but not distracting...
You're right. It's just that the 2001FP is not a monitor where I can just go down to Best Buy and see what it looks like and 800-900 dollars is a big decision. I just don't want to buy this monitor and have to ship it back for motion blurring or ghosting or dead pixels or whatever. The reason I...
Maybe so. I have no clue because I've never used the monitor. I really like the 2001fp on paper. I love the quality of my 1703fp at work but it ghosts(blurs) like a bitch. I know a lot of people on here said the 2001fp kicks ass for gaming but toms hardware says otherwise. So I wanted to quote...
This was taken right from the Tom's Hardware website...
"While it has specs that you can only dream of, the 2001FP is not a gamer's monitor. The afterglow is too visible. To get an idea, it's worse than monitors based on TN + Films, and these are often considered low-end products. Most MVA...
Great points!
I think a lot of us, myself included, consider ghosting the same thing as motion blur so we all need to have a general understanding from now on so I agree with you 100 percent.
A huge issue is that a lot of these monitors that we reccomend to each other can't usualy be...
is there any way for any fp2001 users to take a pic of this "screen door effect"
The 2001 seems like a great monitor and all of us are anal about certain things (I know I am I returned and refunded the same 19 inch sony crt twice in a year and still kept my current 17 inch sony crt). I'm just...
Hi Everyone,
I have a CRT right now and am getting an LCD soon. I have a pair of studio speakers (shown above) for mixing music and even though they are "magnetically sheilded" when I point the cone right at my CRT there is odvious magnetic discoloration on the screen but when the speakers are...
Ahh I forgot about motion blur. Since I'm not an LCD user yet please refresh my memory on motion blur vs. ghosting because the only thing I think of when I hear motion blur is the filter in Photoshop. Thanks
Mike
You got my there. That was actually a guess. I figured that if high fps games cause ghosting because the high frame rate nature of the game that vertical sync would make a difference in terms of ghosting because vertical sync caps the frame rate to reduce image tearing. Why do you guys have...
If you have NO ghosting when playing games on an LCD monitor...
1. What LCD do you have?
2. What games do you play?
3. Do you have vertical sync enabled?
4. What video card do you use?
5. What res do you run at and if so is it the native res of the LCD?
This should give us all...
Hi Everyone,
This is by far the best computer hardware forum Internet and one of my favorite forums but its been so long since I've last posted. Anyway, I have had this Sony 17 inch CRT for over six years! I was 16 when I got it and now I'm 22 and the thing is just now starting to show signs...
