    Gaming monitor

I really wish that behardware included the 22" HP monitor in that study. Seems to big a run between the HP and the Samsung for a lot of people around here.

    LCD for the gf

Just checked, and I can now confirm that the highest her current video card can go is 1280x1024. So it looks like 19" is the limit.

    LCD for the gf

Yeah, the Hanns*G and the LG monitors seem to be in the price range. Is there a reason there are hardly any reviews for these monitors? Are they just using the same panels as the other guys, but don't have as many features - such as height adjustment and whatnot?

LCD for Gamming(first time LCD buyer)

With a $300 price range, I don't think he'll be getting a 3007. If you can find a Viewsonic vx2025wm out there, you'll like that. Otherwise you the Samsung 226bw looks good, though you run the risk of a panel lottery.

    LCD for the gf

Pretty much anything is an upgrade to what she has now. She's got a 17" monitor that still has the rounded screen. I figure I'd get her this, and in about a year or two she is going to be getting a new computer - it'll knock off a few hundred from her price tag. So I guess future proof is nice...

    LCD for the gf

I'm thinking about buying an LCD for my girlfriend near the end of June. She has a pretty crappy computer(like 5 years old - dell, can barely run The Sims 2). Because of this I can't get her a huge widescreen or anything, as I'm unsure if her videocard can even go over 1280x1024. So it looks...

    Recommend a good 19"-20" monitor . . .

I'm in the same boat as these two guys. I was reading some reviews and as far as 19" goes, I think I might be settling on the Viewsonic VP930b. Seems to hav a good panel, relatively low ghosting. Is there any reason I shouldn't get this?

    Summer LCD

any other suggestions? I know a year ago I was looking at the Viewsonic 2025, is the 2035 just a better version of that? Basically I want good viewing angles, low-ghosting, and plays movies pretty well. That will run on a x800pro. Does it look like I'm out of luck for this monitor size category...

    Summer LCD

24 inches is a *little* bigger than I want. I was thinking between 19-22inches. Though, I suppose this model is popular enough that I could go to a BB or someplace and try it out. EDIT: Also, since my computer was made a few years back, I've only got an ATI x800Pro sitting in there. I know that...

    Summer LCD

So, for the past 4-5 years I have been lugging around a huge CRT monitor and its become quite a burden. I first noticed this when I went to quakecon and just how ridiculous carrying that thing was. This summer is gonna be the first one I've had without taking summer courses, so I'll finally have...

    Mac and PC network

well, I ended up setting up an account on the Mac inwhich I can log onto through the windows machine. So now I can see his computer and some files and folders. However, when I try to open a folder, it gives me an "access denied" error. Are there certain folders I would have to specifically share...

    Mac and PC network

My friend recently moved in to my apartment. I have a windows XP computer and he has a Mac laptop, running OSX as far as I can tell. The internet is set up wirelessly through a Buffalo Router. I am curious as how I can set up a file sharing network between the two of us. I went to system...

    CRT: Cause of bad eyes?

and on the whole nearsighted-ness. It can be the case of too much computing, or readings things like books too close to your face for extended periods of time. But as far as the human race becoming NATURALLY near-sighted? wrong. True, we did have "far-sighted" sight in pre-historic and ancient...

    CRT: Cause of bad eyes?

i remember when I used to play EQ on an old CRT, I would ge a SPLITTING headache for like 2 days while playing, then it would go away until I took like a week break (say for vacation) and then came back, I would get that 2 day headache after/while playing. I always thought it was my eyes getting...

    future lcd technology??

didn't they recently showcase the SED technology at some Con? I believe the screens were 30". The way things are getting with monitors, that doesn't seem *too* far off from a conventional monitor size, especially in 5 years. That is if we keep thinking Bigger is Better. I also heard quite a...

Will a Linksys WRT54GL work with DLINK cards?

most all cards work with most all routers, and vise versa. Its just that a lot of companies add in special technology that will only be compatible with their own brand. Such as Speedbooster stuff for linksys. It'll work at standard g with other brand cards, but if you get a linksys speedbooster...

help desiding between widescreen and non-widescreen lcds?

this whole business about eyes prefering to go left/right to read and not up/down and whatnot. I have this to say: Japanese. Hell, if you wanna go to extremes, you could say its better for us to look up and down. The highest and lowest we can look, uses both eyes. However, looking all the...

    Going Wireless

Belkin Pre-N Linksys SRX400 Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 You seem to be covering a pretty big area, I would go with a Pre-N router, just make sure it has MIMO, you can usually tell that it has MIMO if it has 2-3 Antennas on it. You will also need MIMO adapter cards to go with it, not regular...

    Mid-Card LCD?

what resolution is that at? I'm afraid to run at anything over 1280x1024, for fear of making image quality worse in order to play.

    Going Wireless

depends a lot on how big of an area you want to cover. You could get a Linksys WRT54G(although if you are getting it from best buy, itll probably be v5, which you DO NOT want - if you can get the WRT54GL)., if its a "medium" area, should be fine. If you wanna KNOW you have enough power, no...

    Corporate IM options?

we are running jabber at my office right now, only problem is it's a mix of MAC and PCs, and for some reason the macs can communicate together, but the 2 PCs are having some odd troubles. Mid-Card LCD?

I'm currently looking to buy an LCD monitor after having my NEC DP930SB for a few years. After trying to lug that beast around at quakecon last year, I decided I needed an LCD for easier traveling. That being said, I only have an ATI x800Pro. So that leaves out any top of the line LCD monitors...

what are the advantages/disadvantages of a glossy screen?

I have yet to see a glossy screen in person, as i am just recently getting into the whole display thing. But I think the real question (for me) about glossiness is if the glossy screen reflects MORE then a regular CRT monitor. I mean, CRT monitors can be prety reflective, so would someone moving...

    Advice on picking degree

I'm somewhat in the same boat as you, although I have a *little* experience in support for this related to this nature. 1 MIMO, or Router + AP

This credit is at Best Buy, so i can only get a limited amount of supplies. But what I was thinking was exchaning the D-link for the Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 High Power AitStation and buying the Buffalo Ethernet Converter WLI-TX4-G54HP for around $60-80. I figure its cheaper then buying 2 adapters...

1 MIMO, or Router + AP

So here's the deal. I went and bought a D-link DI-634M the other day, to replace a D-Link DI-624 that had been problematic. Its MIMO, and I expected it to 'go the distance', only to find out it had the exact same (and in some cases worse) signal then the non-MIMO router. I moved the antennas and...

    LCD monitor + Strategy games?

I would like to know any information about this as well. I am debating buying a an LCD, but lately have been playing only Warcraft 3, and have not heard of anything regarding RTS, or even MMORPG games in terms of ghosting and quality.

its not my router so i don't have access to upgrade firmware, and the roommate it leaving in like 2 weeks, so i need to replace it with something. New Apartment, New Router.

true mikey, but I'd hate to spend like $75 now, and then in 10 months, find out I couldve just spent $100 and been good for the next few years, instead of dropping another $100 later, and spending near $200. And from what I've heard, Belkin is using the AirGo chipset, which apparently is the...
