Just to report back. Build was about as drama free as you can hope for. There were some annoying issues with the MB BIOS, but once I had everything setup, things were fine. Obviously, performance is amazing. The free Jedi Survivor and Resident Evil 4 games were meh, but they were free so no...
Well, it's done. RX 6800 XT it is. Just didn't see a compelling reason to spend more than $500 on a GPU, which is exactly what it came out to be with the $40 coupon. My first build in nearly 5 years. Kept is at just over $1850+ which was my target budget.

Yeah. RT is nice, but it's not a must for me. I guess I'll stick with the 6800xt and save the cash. Trying to keep the budget around $1800 or so. I'll miss PhysX with the Batman games, but those are the only games where I've found PhysX to matter. The nVidia option seems to be better with...
As per title, it's been a LONG time since I've posted to this forum. To be truthful, even with an upgrade, I'm not sure how much gaming I'd be doing. I'm in a situation where I'm thinking of upgrading my PC right now. Currently moving away from a Geforce 2070 Super. Only really like the...
I guess there's still no word on the no sound issue when coming out of suspend mode with HD 1.3.38.26. I'm still rolling back to HD 1.3.38.21 manually after installing the latest graphic drivers.
The ATI 9700 Pro was the first ATI card that made me jump ship from nVidia, of whom years previously I had jumped shipped from 3DFx. Up to that point, ATI was known for making somewhat good hardware, but really bad drivers and never really taking advantage of the performance it was capable of...
Anyone have issues with losing HD audio coming out of suspend mode? With the hd audio driver - 1.3.38.26 packaged with 445.75, I get no audio from my monitor once it comes out of sleep mode. Works fine initially, but once the monitor goes to sleep and wakes up again - no audio. Going back to...
Oh, I forgot to mention, this card seems to be clocked MUCH higher than advertised. This is the MSI Radeon RX Vega 64 Air Boost 8G OC. Boost clock is listed as 1575MHz upper ceiling. According to HWMonitor and GPUz, it's actually 1663MHz. This being the case, I have no plans of overclocking...
OK. Decided to go with it and got the Vega 64. Prices came down to the point where I wanted to see what the big deal is with FreeSync (I just bought a 32" Pixio PX329, 1440p @144Hz, 165Hz w/o FreeSync). My son was looking for a little bit more performance over the Geforce 970 I gave him two...
Yeah, I'm sort of leaning in that direction. Seeing the huge price drop is what got me interested, but $400 is still $400 so the incremental gain might not be worth it.
I've been out of the PC upgrade game for a while now. Pretty much in the same boat. Just upgraded to an i7-8700k, but unsure whether I want to upgrade from my current Geforce 1070. I love the Batman games so I deliberately stayed with nVidia a couple of years ago just to take advantage of...
My Klipsch 4.1 finally died after 16+ years of service. Speakers sounded funny and the sub is definitely shot. I don't think any piece of hardware i've owned has lasted this long.
You will be missed old friend. I'd bury you with a seven gun salute, but I don't think the local police will...
Hey, that was a kick-ass box back in the day. I used to rule with this setup.
Abit BH6
Celeron 300@450
128mb Micron PC100
Creative TNT2 Ultra 32mb
Creative Voodoo2 12mb SLI
Creative SBLive
My 4.1s are still with me. :)
Waiting for these to die, but they just keep going. I think I got them back in 2000 or 2001. It was right at the time they stopped making them and was sub planted by the 5.1s.
I've owned several PowerColor cards in the past. They're just as good as some of the other big name brands in my opinion. Definitely would not take them out of consideration if I'm shopping for an upgrade.
For games that actually used Physx, I got quite a performance boost when I mated my 770 with my old 570. To be honest though, I was quite happy with the 770 doing all the work by itself.
I figured I'd update this thread in case anyone was curious what a 770+570 combo would yield. Was rebuilding my work machine anyway so I took the opportunity to pull out the 570 since it was being wasted in this machine and replace it with an old HD 4890.
Arkham Origins with the 770 handling...
I just got this headset and installed it about 10 min ago. This doesn't appear to be happening to me. Using the drivers off the CD. Haven't checked yet whether more updated ones are available.
Looking for a worthwhile replacement for my aging, but still functioning Klipsch 4.1s. Instead of going for a full out surround speaker system, I was thinking of something more compact like the Bose. I don't game as much as I used to, but I do use my PC a lot for movies and music. The demo I...
Heh. I didn't even know Klipsch was still around. Still waiting on my Promedia 4.1s to die on me so I'd have an excuse to upgrade. Surprisingly, they still sound good after 10 years.
Interesting thread. I just upgraded to a 770 myself and have this 570 left over. Resale value is not worth the effort to me so I thought about using it as a stand-alone Physx card. As it happens, I do have a lot of games that use it. In particular the Batman series and a few others...
The MRE's I had during my stint in the Corps were downright awful. Especialy that dehydrated pork patty, which looked and tasted like dog food.
Looks like they've improved a bit since then.
Yeah. Canopus had the best Voodoo1. Was a bit disappointed when they went with a straight reference design with the Voodoo2.
I think my favorite geek toy ever was my Abit BH6 with a Celeron 300a (o/c'd to 450mhz), and 128mb of Micron PC100. The V2 SLI was installed with a Diamond SpeedStar...
I still have my Voodoo2s running on an old Win98se box for nostalgia sake. Every now and then I'll run GLQuake or Quake II on it, as well as the original (Glide only) Unreal. Brings me back to my young, semi-carefree bachelor days before marriage, work, and other commitments took over my life...
I picked up this game last month. I'm not going to say it sucks, but it really hasn't held my interest. I guess I'm either spoiled or jaded, but I find it somewhat boring.
Waiting on Batman Arkham City to be available on Steam.
