the card is a pos. reviews about poor drivers, and weak performance from a dual GPU card.
looks nice though.

that PS is plenty. I have a 6800GT running @ 420 core (400 is ultra speed) and in a shuttle SFF box w/ 250w supply, I have a 3.2 @ 3.6, 1 gig ram, the GT, 2 HD's, etc. and it only draws a total of 227watt on my kill-a-watt meter.
you'll be fine, the power requirements I believe were highly...
that is a terrible idea. Look at Creative Labs (a monopoly in the sound industry), you think their current 3d sound technology is good, but it's lacking in some major areas, and there is little or no incentive to make a better sound card.
Competition is the only thing that drives innovation...
if your feeling daring, some guys are flashing their GT bios with a modified one that runs 1.4 volt, not the stock 1.3. One fellow only did 370 max OC, but did 410 after the flash. His temps went up a bit due to more voltage, and it's always a risk flashing the bios, so be warned.
some...
there isn't a shred of evidence to support ATI walking on Nvidia in HL2. Everything you hear is pure speculation and guesses. When the game comes out, you will find out.
fyi, i was using AS2 in my 6800GT for 2 weeks (this is in a shuttle SFF) and got 82-83 in the light demo after 1 hour. I swapped in Shin Etsu G751 tonight (gpu and memory). I heard it takes 50-100 hours to cure and really see the difference. Anyway the room temp is the same as last night (70f)...
how come noone thinks that BFG not keeping stock for RMA's is lame? I keep hearing about this 'great' support they have, but that is very weak that they don't have supply for these kinds of issues.
eVga keeps stock of cards for RMA's. it's only a 1 year warranty, but still nice to know you...
There is NO solid evidence of this anywhere that ATI wins HL2. There is an alpha floating around showing the X800 PE and 6800U @ same FPS @ 1600x1200. that's all there is to go by for now.
good call. I like the ATI fan's who claim the X800 will 'own' HL2 when there is zero evidence except the Alpha tests showing the PE and U tied @ 1600x1200.
err.. where is the evidence of this? There are just rumors of it entering to beta, then there will be RC's, then gold, then production. Somehow I doubt this is happening in the next few weeks.
There is also little evidence that ATI supplies will 'ramp up' anytime in the next 3-4 weeks...
same here w/ eVga. thermal pad w/ stick string-like material. It seems the ram sinks aren't perfectly flat, and this takes up the slack. When I put on AS5 on the ram, it didn't cover the whole area.
also agreed about the material looking like Shin Etsu, it's a popular OEM compound. I should...
There a lot of people OC'ing their GT's and this only the 2nd time I've seen this, both with BFG's. Since they take off the reference cards when they get them from Nvidia (you guys know ALL these GT's come from the same place) to put on the AS5, who knows if they damaged anything during this...
um, there is nothing wrong with the card. I have a GT, not an ultra. you guys have a larger, slower spinning fan that is twice as thick. I have seen 2 other GT's, they are indentical.
As for the shuttle comment, some people enjoy a little piece and quiet. If you have 1/2 dozen case fans...
nice.. picard is going to be the ref for the battle.
All of the 6800 vs. XT PE arguments would be a lot more valid if you could actually get a PE today. There can't be more than a few hundred in circulation.(and they ALL seem to come on these forums gloating how they got their PE's) There are...
bakedgoods - in all seriousness, you can go over to www.rage3d.com and see the people that have been waiting for months with empty promises of the XT PE to come up. In the US, Best Buy and Compusa are the ATI launch partners. A few have trickled out here and there, with no consistancy. Even the...
Don't be silly. haven't you ever seen what the Shuttle SFF boxes are capable of? people are running prescotts and P4 3.4EE's in these boxes without breaking a sweat.
For me, it's the 3.2C --> 3.6C, 1 gig PC 4000 memory, 250 Gig HD, DVD burner, 6800 GT @ 425 core/1150 memory.
not too...
unless you are willing to pay $700-$800 America dollars on ebay, you will very unlikely be getting this card anytime in the next 2 months. ATI is having issues getting the memory, and there are already thousands of people trying to get the card.
A 6800GT OC'd runs very close to the XT PE in...
not sure, all the 6800GT's have the same reference cooling and fan from Nvidia with the exception of Asus I believe. Anyway, can't say the DB rating except it ranks pretty high on the 'pain in azz o' meter'. I guess for a single slot solution, they had no choice but to put in a high RPM fan.
I run my 6800GT @ 425 core in a shuttle SB75 w/ 250W supply, and a 3.2 @ 3.6, 1 gig ram, HD's, burner, etc. No power issues, although shuttle does make an excellent power supply that has line conditioning built into it.
hmm.. I run a 6800GT @ 425 core (way pass the stock ultra speed) in a computer the size of a shoebox (shuttle SB75) with a 250w powersupply without a hiccup. Those power requirements were grossly exaggerated.
also, there is not a shred of evidence that ATI will romp on the 6800's in HL2...
There is no doubt the 6800GT fan is noisy. It's driving me nuts sometimes since I just silenced the rest of my shuttle. For some reason, the fan never slows down even @ idle. i thought it was supposed to.
Waiting for the Dangerden 6800GT waterblock and maybe watercool this shuttle.
still...
people are tired of the hunt and jumping ship left and right. They are tired of waiting, and waiting with empty promises and inflated pricing. Along comes the 6800GT @ $399, some kick ass D3 benchmarks, and the choice becomes easy to make if you want a card 'today', not whenever ATI finds a way...
I believe you are correct about the Shin Etsu. my eVga looked like that. Originally I could clock to 420 and 425 no problem. After putting on the AS2 I had laying around, 415 Max now.
I have some Shin Etsu G751 I just got. I am going to use put it on the 6800GT and see what happens. People...
guys, the eVga card is built by the same company making all the reference 6800GT's. The only difference with BFG is that they take off the heatsinks and apply AS5. They also have a very good lifetime warranty.
eVga only has 1 year. On the flipside, they have a 90 upgrade program. You can get...
obviously only a HL2 beta, but I don't see any of the flagship cards doing too bad here.

I doubt you are getting low 60's load. Is this running the NALU demo, or Realtime HDR light demo? if you are measuring by exiting a game, you are dropping 15C before you can even see the control panel.
I have the eVGA 6800GT. It will run solid @ 420/1150, but slows down any higher. I run it at 415/1150 all the time with no problems.
I agree most people hit a limit @ 420, but there are definately people who get lucky and hit higher.
If you can get it to 400/1100, then it's still an...
for the same $, and better performance, you can have the 6800GT in one day. not starting a flame or anything. I had a 9800pro until a few weeks ago, and it was great. But the 6800GT @ 410/1150 is the killer card for the $$.
Unless you were ordering a vivo with the intentions of making it into...
I just ordered some of the Shin Etsu G751. My eVga has the thermal tape on the ram, and some silver compound on the GPU. Since adding AS2 which I had laying around, I can no longer run @ 420/1200 like before. Now it's 410/1150 max. I noticed the Ram was making more contact with the HS when I...
well it seems there's plenty of people doing VIVO to XT mods, so you could take a chance on that. Or go with the GT. I have mine rock solid @ 420/1150, 2.8 -->3.2, 12,610 3dmark2k3. Not too shabby, runs FC @1600x1200 on my 20.1LCD awesome, and i'm sure it will be fine for doom.
99% of the...
yeah, and it will be released when? Q4 2004? they can't even get their flagship product out there.
It's all about timing, and with people who have $400 burning a hole in their pocket. With Doom 3 coming out, this was a terrible time for ATI to foul this up. People are switching en masse to...
Where is the evidence of this, when ATI has openly stated issues getting the card to market. No more than a few hundred cards are out there right now. T
hey dropped the ball on the eve of the major videogame release. People by the droves are getting GT's just because they don't want to wait...
