Importance of Motherboard in relation to Voltage

Yes :) The chipset design/components can also influence the overclock. You will have probably seen in the past that newer boards tend to clock higher as improvements are made so theres always something better that can be added/changed. NVidia's different chipset models are graded by a few...

Importance of Motherboard in relation to Voltage

A few things will affect how stable a given cpu will be at certain speeds and voltages. The PSU driving the PC can affect the result so comparisons should be done with the same PSU. The same applies for all parts but just in case you are swapping parts between 2 different cases during tests...

    To prevent game tearing in-game?

Its down to trying different monitors to maybe get a less pronounced tearing or finding some other solution to give less lag using VSync.

    To prevent game tearing in-game?

Something I've just remembered. When I tried using VSync, I found that at high resolutions, the mouse lag was massive and it reduced the lower the res I used. Try a lower resolution and see what happens using VSync.

    To prevent game tearing in-game?

The effect will be the same if overclocking. Whatever speed you use, if it doesnt give framerates close to 1/2, the refesh rate or double the refresh rate, you will get more tearing. Changing the refresh rate to something nearer the actual framerates achieved should give the biggest...

    To prevent game tearing in-game?

There is quite a lot to it but some is so random that its hard to predict the overall effect and to adjust for all scenarios. For example, if the graphics card can output framerates close to exactly the refresh rate or double or half etc, you will get less tearing. The problem is, without...

    To prevent game tearing in-game?

To lose the mouse lag, you need to have VSync off. This brings us back to reducing tearing. You have to accept that there will be some tearing. Some monitors make tearing look worse than others. If you can take your PC to try on other monitors you can get an idea if there are some that...

    8800GTS power supply...

Agreed you wont need near 36A and a single rail will probably do. Might as well use both though for higher stability :) I read somewhere that the minimum PSU that should be used is 450W. You can use even less powerful ones but thats a good guideline to start from. What you have will be great.

    PC Wont Post

Theres a few ways a PSU/power drain could cause a problem. There is more than 1 voltage rail and power supply point. If any of them arent working you might not be powering part of the system needed to function. If the voltage rails are below voltage, they might not be able to drive the...

    High end pc speakers

Yeah I feel the same, a good surround receiver and speakers is killer! Buy second hand, you can get amazing kit for very little. If you can fit floor standing front speakers where you are, even better. If you go for smaller speakers all round, you will need a subwoofer. I have a sub with...

Make sure the CMOS clear jumper is in the right position. Unplug everything you dont need to power up. If that fails power it up outside the case on a magazine. There could be something underneath the motherboard shorting out.

Anyone else think hardware is advancing too fast?

Yeah theres definitely a strong competitive element but the advancements dont go to waste. We want fluid and lifelike animation on any number of objects in high resolution and dont have it yet, so really, its not advancing fast enough.

    8800GTS power supply...

Hehe cool. I have to wait until around R600 time to get that power. Be careful with the PSU, I wouldnt push it anywhere near hard enough to start it making noises. It may last but as you pointed out, it is being stressed very hard. You will be risking possible damage to everything in your...

    Help!!! New computer issues

Do everything as suggested except lay it on the antistatic bag. Anti static bags conduct static electricty away over the whole surface of the bag. It wouldnt be a good idea to lay the motherboard on something that conducts. I use a mgazine to put the motherboard on and earth myself on the...

    $30 Physics Processors why not?

I can think of a few reasons why they arent $30. Its an unrealistic price point. No competition (aside from NVidia but we are yet to see the graphics performance impact of using Physics on the G80). Nothing (worth having) to run one on so no incentive for sales and no incentive for further...

Anyone else think hardware is advancing too fast?

Hardware is advancing too fast for what? DirectX is software not hardware, so DirectX10 arriving is a software issue. Did you mean that Directx10 has come too fast? We have been given DX10 hardware shortly in advance of DX10 becoming available, I'd say the timing is pretty good, not too...

    What causing voltage droop?

You're being too fussy with the voltage 'drop'. The BIOS reading not matching the Asus probe reading isnt uncommon. Its either reading the wrong sensor or the sensor reading is inaccurate. Theres nothing wrong, believe the BIOS more. If you want a true reading use a callibrated multimeter.

Windows install problem on new build....

It could be the USB support isnt as good as you might like. I gave up with USB keyboards a long time ago due to problems like that. Its worth checking that Legacy USB keyboard support is enabled in the BIOS.

    Can't boot, can't install

It seems clear that you have a hardware issue of some form. Swap bits out and test. If its stable enough to blow the latest bios, I'd do that, maybe it will clear up the hardware issue. You can boot from a DOS hard drive (and maybe USB drive if the machine can boot them) with the BIOS utils...

3D Mark 06 - Proven just a load of bull?

I agree 3DMark hasnt been able to represent your gaming performance for some time. Given thats what its for, the omen isnt good. In early days and up to 3DM03, I used to load 3DMark every time I upgraded my PC to see how good the benchmark looked. With 3DM06 I dont care as it is long...

    Core2Duo volt issue

57C for watercooling is high enough to cause problems. Spot temps inside the core will be much higher when that temp is with water cooling rather than with air. Idle temps dont matter here. I dont have a C2D to test with, I hope someone else chimes in that does. Find out how high the...

    Core2Duo volt issue

Its more down to your cooling and luck. If a spot temp gets high enough inside an IC, the silicon wont function as required. Not all silicon is the same so you can expect differences. Better cooling can bring the spot temps down to a working temperature.

    8800GTS....minor gripe...

There are many many PSU's that can easily power the GTS that dont have PCI-E connectors. Many PC users choose to get older high power PSU's (that can easily drive a GTS/GTX/SLI) as there are some good bargains to be had. Many already have an older, powerful PSU that does not need replacing to...

not sure, I'm lost as to the significance of your other PC having a PCI slot. The graphics card working means just that, it works. It doesnt hint at anything else for the system other than its not the graphics card at fault. Unless the PSU turns out to be the problem (or the system...

    Logitech Z-680 speakers?

A similar thing happened to a client with the Z-680. It worked for a short while and sounded great. The next time he turned it on, it worked for a few seconds then smoke came from the subwoofer (where the amps are) and it didnt work again. Komplett charged £35 to send it back! Can you...

    color problem. x1900

Hard call. replacing the heatsink means disturbing the default heatsink paste. It all depends whether that gets checked which I imagine it will if tested. Then again, we dont know if the motherboard is the whole problem. Given the temps of the chipset, it looks likely to be 'a' problem if...
