Before even considering a new computer, unless she already has a good A/V client installed, I would do some malware scans. It's entirely possible something is using alot of CPU/network on the system, causing the video conferencing to chug.
I think the best argument for not fixing a minor secuirty bug is that there's a non-zero chance of your "fix" introducing an unintended security issue that's actually exploitable, or a usuability issue.
If the original security bug isn't exploitable, it's not worth fixing.
A better...
I'm not sure why anyone would get 2 6600s. The performance is about the same as a 6800GT, but then you've got 2 cards that will become obselete and your only upgrade path is to replace them both.
If you want to play the SLI game, you should ALWAYS buy the single most expensive card you can...
Personally I've been disappointed in d3 MP (not that my hopes were too high). I was hoping for a more methodical plotting style of game ala Splinter Cell MP (what with the fantastic lighting and 4 players and all), but it's really just q3 dm on the new engine (even the sounds are mostly q3...
Can I get an "Amen," brother? :)
I tried booting up AQ2 the other week, but couldn't get q2 to run stably (I was using the AQ2LTKTBM build, which I had never heard of, but I've long lost my original q2 disk). It kept freezing up...
D3 seems like a pretty good Action engine, I never played...
Ask her if having a supporting husband who calls her a "ho" isn't what made her a "Christian Wacko" in the first place. Then tell her to take the child and run.
personally i'm seriously disappointed with the widescreen support in d3.
I can run at 1920x1200, which is the native res of my LCD, but it gets choppy. So I tried adding some custom resolutions to my 6800GT using the new driver feature. I tried 960x600 (so 1/4 the size), but d3 insists on...
Just wondering if anyone else has seen some artifacts in 3dmark?
I had my card clocked at 406/1030, and noticed some artifacts in Nature and Rag Troll. Nothing major, just a couple shadows flickered. So far, any games I've run don't have any issue. To be safe, I clocked back to 400/1000...
So the GT _appears_ to have the traces for the second molex, no idea if they would work or not. The first to mod a second molex on their GT will have [H]onors for a long time.
Option #3: Carmack and company have had almost a year to tweak the game. A game can look good without necessarily needing 10x more horsepower, and if anyone can do that it's id.
I just put mine in standby for a couple mintues, touched the card while in standby and it's totally cool to the touch, and when i woke the machine up it was only 57C (it was 59C when i put it to sleep). What screen blanking mode are you guys using in your BIOS? DPMS (IIRC) is the one you want.
Looks like they are using the same pic for the 6800,U, and GT, all pics of a U.
To my limited knowledge, only the U has dual DVI (part of the differentiation between U and GT, since GT's OC to U speeds so well).
And since currently all the cards are being built by nvidia, I'd expect that...
And BFG _does_ have a lifetime warranty. If they didn't want you to overclock it they wouldn't call it an "OC" :)
Seriously, though, you'll see artifacts before any real short-term damage is done.
The A7N8X board is nforce2, so it's not hypertransport. But the nvidia LAN is built into the MCP. I'm not sure if this is better or worse, though, since it should give lower latency but it could also cause more SB utilization (and maybe heat).
Personally, I use the top one, just because it...
Tomorrow I'll be re-assimilated as well when my GT gets here. Though I've been using my 9500Pro on a nforce2 board all along, so I sorta never left.
My last nv card was a geforce2, so it's been awhile.
Has anyone actually confirmed this is a problem by going into standby for awhile, then checking out temps when you come back? By standby I mean actually hit the sleep button on your PC or choose it from the shutdown menu and have S3/STR enabled in your bios, and of course blank screensavers or...
Um, isn't the whole point of standby to turn off all the loud fans in your system? Are you telling me that the 6800's will actually get hot sitting there doing nothing (not even providing a video signal)?
Yes the asus has soundstorm.
Save yr money and get the 2500 XP Mobile, no reason to get the 2800 since the 2500 XP-Ms OC so well (decent HSF and you should hit 2.4ghz no problem)
I love my A7N8X, only problem is it's the old PCb and FSB won't go above 175/350, which is the only thing...
The A7N8X deluxe has COAX on the backplane, seems like most of the others use optical, but my receiver only has coax. Some boards have both on a separate header that takes up a PCI slot (which is fine with me).
My first choice would be a rev 2.0 A7N8X Deluxe, but I'm open to others.
I'm looking for a good used Nforce2 board to replace my revision 1.02 A7N8X. I absolutely need soundstorm (with a COAX out, can't use optical SPDIF in my current setup), and want 200FSB, anything else onboard is nice but not absolutely required.
I have the following for trade:
9500Pro...
Compuplus has the BFG 6800 GT OC in stock:
http://www.compuplus.com/insidepage.php3?refer=pricegrabber.com&id=1002558
They keep upping there price though.
Chumbo.com said they should get more this week, which makes sense since they seem to have a deal with BFG (if you click buy now on...
Are you _positive_ the memory reserved for the apeture isn't used until it's needed? I thought for sure it was allocated at boot, and would be very surprised if that wasn't the case (but would love to be told otherwise).
Anyways, making your apeture too large will steal memory from the rest...
As far as the PCI-e stuff, where it gets confusing is that there are 2 numbers of the "size" of a pci-e slot, the actual size and the number of active pins. So the only mobo out there right now with 2 x16 slots actually has 1 "real" x16 slot, and another x8 slot in the x16 form factor. Cool...
To really use SoundStorm, you want a Dolby Digital receiver. If you don't have one, I picked up a decent 5.1 receiver and spekaers at Walmart for $80. I don't see it on their site anymore, but they must have something similiar.
If you use the anlog outs, then the sound is going through the...
I don't see where you explictly say what temps you get under idle and load...? That would help people offer suggestions.
Personally, I think you're putting too much voltage in, which can make things less stable. 1.65v should be plenty for that chip. Unfortunautely my rev 1.02 A7n8x won't...
Maybe run it bit with the case open, and see if that helps. Also make sure you've got the HS on as tight as you can, and don't have too much AS on there. 65C is pushing acceptable. Is that stock or overclocked?
If you don't want to overclock, get a 3200+. That's the fastest that will go in your board stock (200Mhz FSB = 400Mhz DDR). Hpwever, if you want to save money, and actually get a faster chip, get a Athlon XP-M 2500+ for $88 at newegg. Then, run it at 200Mhz FSB (almost everyone has been able...
If you have a dolby digital receiver then the Deluxe's Soyndstorm is totally worth it. If you don't, you can pick up a cheap 5.1 DD reciever from Walmart on the cheap...
