What video card would complement that nicely for about $400?
Thanks.
the only think i use windows for anymore is games
linux is far more stable (although i will admit xp is pretty dam stable) and better suites what i do on a day to day basis (which is school work and web programming)
I'm looking at 6600gt agp cards, and have narrowed it down to two
XFX nVIDIA GeForce 6600GT Video Card, 128MB GDDR3, 128-Bit, Dual DVI/TV-Out, AGP 8X - $192
GIGABYTE nVIDIA GeForce 6600GT Video Card, 128MB GDDR3, 128-Bit, DVI/TV-Out, AGP 8X - $193
Which do you think is the better buy...
alright, ill check if its still rma'able (i did buy it almost 10 months ago)
otherwise ill buy the 6600gt, and maybe thatll last me until even next spring
thanks guys
yeh, i couldnt decide between a 9800 pro or a 6600gt (which does come in agp 8x models), both are about the same price wise, but the 6600gt has faster clock speeds, but is only 128 bit
with my current specs would i see any improvement using a 6600gt over the 9800 pro?
Alright, in pretty much all of my games, I get massive artifacts and occasional glitches, and Ive determined that the video card is just about dead. It had been having issues before, so I assume theyre resurfacing now.
Anyway, I'm looking for a new one to hold me off until I build a new one...
alright, its sounding more and more like memory, things slowly crash and i end up rebooting, im going to stick some ram in from a friends computer and see if thats the real problem
alright, i ran memtest86+ for 3 hours and no errors came up
just now though "Win32 Service Host" or something like that crashed and outlook isnt responding anymore, could i just need to reformat?
Right now I have a PQI 512mb stick that i bought off ebay about 8 months ago and i think its been really acting up. First, steam kept giving me this error that it couldnt read from a memory location due to access violations. Then the hp apps starting erroring out similarly (memory access...
I know it can be done, but Im not sure what to search for. Basically I have a 200gb drive id like to put in an old file server, but it only has a single ata cable. I read some time ago that there are boxes that you can put the drive in and it turns it into an external usb drive, is this correct...
Here's the problem. Every now and then, my computer will freeze or randomly reboot. At first I thought it was the power supply, but then, when i restarted the computer, the monitor wouldnt come out of stand by. In order to remedy this, I had to jiggle the monitor cable into the video card, then...
ive reformated and reinstalled with winxp w/ sp2
i will try this
its relatively new, but ill take a look
done
it had been doing it before the video upgrade as well
i keep my computer very clean, no virii, adware, etc

Alright, for the last month or so, my computer has been having some issues. First, itll turn off randomly, and when I try to turn it back on, the monitor stays in standby and the bios beep a thousand times and nothing happens. I found that this can be fixed by turning off the power supply...
Well, the sub doesnt hit real low, and its quite punchy, so i was thinking of replacing it, not the entire unit, but just the driver. Thing is, I dont know any of the stats on the amplifier powering it (like impedence, rms of the amp at certain ohms, etc), besides the fact that its 188 rms...
See, I want to get a laptop, becuase I feel since I've come to school, I've acquired a more mobile lifestyle, and my desktop just doesnt cut it anymore. So I'm thinking of selling it and buying a comparable laptop (minus the video power, since i dont much games anymore). But how much would...
Alright, I have logitech z680 speakers, my computer is plugged into the analog, and my guitar is plugged into the coax (I have a board that has dig out). Anyway, I was playing around on my guitar, and i pulled the board a little too far, and snagged the cable, which caused the pin of the...

i was going to send it ups ground, only becuase if i send it air, itll cost me near $100 (to send computer, moniter, etc)
and im definitely getting it insured
Alright, I need to ship my computer to a new location tomorrow, and I'm wondering, what should I do to get it ready. I still have the old box the case in, which the styrofoal and whatnot, so i can just use that.
I know im taking the heatsink and fan out (sp-94), but should I also take out the...
i saw the vantec iceberq, looked like a good choice, but i already have 7 fans running, im concerned about noise and starting to push the limit on the 12v rail
The heatsink on my mobo (P4S800D-E deluxe) for the chipset is too tall to accomodate my sp-94. Right now, I have the heatpipes pointed up, since the capaciters and ram block it from pointing to the sides, and the chipset heatsink block it from pointing down.
the sp-94 instruction sheet says...
actually i didnt see THAT much of a difference
before, i was getting about 27 idle, 29 load
now i get 26 idle, 27 load
ambient room temp is about 25
so eh, it looks a whole lot better though :)
thanks for the replies
first, i have two fans on the bottom of the panel, thats where those cables are coming from, i wasnt too sure where to put them, but since the bottom of the panel covers it up, i didnt worry about it
ill try playing around with the IDE cables some more problem is...
Alright, I just spent the last hour or so cleaning up my case.
Before, cover on:

After, cover off (what an improvement!)...
well, i use the 17" 710t, and in fs9, it looks absolutely beautiful, no screendoor, or ghosting, the colors are stunning, everything is super sharp
dunno what the 19" counterpart would be though, sorry :)
heres a pic
i guess you could start by ripping everything out, screen, take the keyboard out of the keyboard tray (leave the tray, you could put a new keyboard in it), pull out the drives to put cd drives in, use the screen to put an lcd or fans or something
i was cutting a 120mm blowhole in the top of my case
i was using a hole saw, and the drill bit holding the saw snapped causing the saw the jump, slashing up the shiny car finish paint, i sanded it down and repainted it, but there are still marks from the saw, i dont care really, the case was...
ha, i wasnt even THINKING about drilling through my mobo, even if i had any experience with pcb boards, i wouldnt drill through it
as for the holes that are already there, (aka, mounting holes), i think as long as the cables arent moving a lot, theyll be fine, and my computer doesnt go...
Wasn't sure which forum to post this in, but its sort of case modding? here goes
I need to do some serious cable management, and found some places (like the cpu fan), i could just feed the wires through the mounting holes on the mobo tray and the mounting holes on the mobo. Obviously, there...
