Yeah good point, I didn't realize how old it was at first. It's still useful because it will be a while until large corporations fully roll out 2008. My company still uses 2000 on some of our Citrix servers
I was actually researching this recently and came across this really good in depth look at when to use Microsoft Terminal Services alone and when it's worth adding Citrix. Might help you out...
That reminds me of the message you get when you try to run a speed test from DSLReports on your Blackberry "Blackberry uses proxy servers to filter out useless data. The speed test relies on useless data to work correctly." :p (Or something to that effect).
I'm with Rogers cable in Canada. I've been around the same amount for the last 10 years or so. They started at 2mbit back in the @Home days and increase it by a couple mbit every 2 years or so. Really can't complain :D
I guess my information is a little out of date, which makes sense because...
Most residential routers using stock firmwares can route about 20mbit per second. Your equipment will be fine with 1mbit.
Just for comparison, I pay $54.99 for 10 mbit. The 1 mbit plan is $34.99 so not a difficult choice. They do also have a 7mbit plan for $44.99.
I'll second the Axis cameras. I recently set up a few Axis 207s and they worked great. They even have wireless versions in case you can't get a cable into your garage or outside.
The 207 was around $350 but was well worth it. The nighttime mode on the camera was very effective (as long as...
I second pfsense. I used it at a company I used to work for, and bandwidthD is great for seeing who's downloading what. The traffic shaping was really powerful too.
Even if the Netgear supports SNMP, it's going to be difficult to narrow down what type of traffic is coming from where. It will...
Are you using the Auto Detect utility on the box itself? I had a similar issue once where it would detect fine, but would never get an IP. LAN worked fine but WAN would never map correctly. I entered in the port name manually ("x10" or something if I recall, it was a while back) and it worked...
A good splitter can make all the difference. I recently moved into a new apartment in an older building on the 20th floor. When the cable guy came into install we checked the signal and it was borderline. He went to the wiring closet and found an ancient splitter. He switched out the splitters...
This is approaching the problem the wrong way. I think the manufactures should just make it easier for the average person to encrypt their wireless... Has anyone bought a Linksys WRT54G recently? They put a sticker on the 4 lan ports that say "STOP! READ INSTRUCTIONS FIRST"... Why not put the...
I'm not totaly up on my ISP uptime percentages and what's considered good... but at 95% your looking at an hour of downtime everyday... My cable hardly ever goes down, maybe for half an hour once a month, but thats becaue the cabling in my area sucks; is underground; and is getting old. Other...
WOW i agree with almost all of those. Especialy when people ask "what should i choose" on questions that i clearly cannot answer. Like in our program you can set permissions for every user... "What do i want?" "i don't know you tell me". Or the network cable unplugged one gets me all the...
The reason they have to go through all the steps (every company is the same) is because its expensive for companies to send out replacment parts. If the part isn't actually bad its a huge unnessesary cost to the company. I can;t count the times i've gotten calls from people saying "my mouse is...
Agreed. The first rule (well maybe not first but defenitly top 10) is to assume the person on the other end is an idiot, and give them full instructions. You can always just ignore extra steps or instructions, but if you don't know what your doing you can't skip steps. Also it's always good to...
Hmm, yeah that does look pretty involved from what i can see. If you have some example code already written that would be awsome :D. I'm not a fan of copying at all, but seeing the code in practical use is the best way to understand how it works so you can write your own i find.
Thanks for...
The thing i hate most is people who don't read error messages.. or people who over analyze them... example:
I work for a software company that makes POS software, which includes reciept printers, cash drawers, etc. When upgrading between versions where printer settings change, you have to...
Yeah i just realized that after i got it working, i would need it to work on client machines without SQL or MSDE installed. It works great tho, a lot faster than current and it refreshes changes instantly.
Any more infomation on NetEnumServers? Can't seem to find much about it on google.
Thanks for the idea on the port scanning, i was thinking of doing something similar to that in the begining.
But thats exactly what i was lookijng for. I knew there was something as simple as that, i just couldn't find it. (I think i'm loosing my touch on google :p ). I'll try it out and...
This may be a stupid question... but i'm looking for a way to get a list of all the SQL servers running on a lan. Similar to how MSDE service manager, Enterprise manager, etc have a list of all the sql servers running on the network. Is there anyway to do this with code in VB.Net?
I need a...
Yeah defenitly agreed. Get a router with wireless (WRT54G perhaps) and a better gbit switch. Much better preformance by throwing all your gigabit clients on one switch instead of uplinking between gigabit router and switch.
To find out for sure, try setting the wireless mode to "disabled" and see if the wired computer constinues to disconnect. When disconnects do happen, can you still browse the router config? It might just be dropping the signal from the modem, check if the internet ip goes to "0.0.0.0". If you...
Is logging enabled? Try disabling it. I once accidently set the logging to send to ip 192.168.1.255 (broadcast domain) on a network of 20 computers . Talk about brining the netowrk to its knees :p
It may be something with the DNS server... check to see what DNS server the router grabs and what DNS the laptop gets when connected directly. Not sure if you've tried this, but you can also try to get the ip adress of the server with your laptop connected directly, and then try to use the ip to...
Most email programs/webmail will have an option somewhere to view "message source", which will give you like a transcript of the route the email took. Which will include all the mail servers it was sent through. In outlook express you right click on the email, go to properties and then details...
Have the person look at the message source and see what mail server the email is coming from. It might be a message that failed to deliver the first time and is now stuck in the retry queue being resent every 15 mins.
Anyone have any ideas?
It dosen't have to be VOIP based, i'm just trying to find anything at this point that can automaticly make calls and play back a recording. I'm kind of new to telecom.
Any ideas on where to even start looking?
Thanks
I work for a small software company that makes managment software for the salon/day spa industry (i know, real exciting  but it's work...) and what we're looking for is something that can automaticly take a list of customers and phone numbers and call them all through and confrm their...
Actually a lot of dlinks technical support is done in Canada, or at least the Canadian calls are answered here. I got offered a job as a tech at a new site they opened up here. Probably 50 or so staff doing both consumer and corprate tech support.
What type of net connection do you have?
Have you tried replacing the modem or tried it somewhere else in your house?
Try moving the router somewhere else, maybe theres some wierd interferance or something.
I'm having some wierd problems with the network at work. Netowrk dropping...
I'm not sure if in general microwaves do or don't cause problems, but i know in my case it does affect the wifi signal. If my wirless netowrk is on chanel 6, everytime the microwave goes on the signal drops. Where as on chanel 3 it does not. We recently replaced our mivrowave with a new one, and...
What firmware are you using on your router? I'm not too sure about the stock firmware, but with the Sveasoft firmware theres an option "AP Isolation" which makes it impossible for the wireless clients to acsess the wired clients. This is useful for extra security, so if someone hacks ur...
What you should do in this case is create a bridge between the two network cards. Go to network properties, right click on one of the connections and hit bridge. Not the most stable way of doing it, but its good enough and really easy.
Have you tried updating the drivers to the most recent version?
Go through all the settings for the card and make sure security is turned off on it as well.
Have you tried connecting both through the Windows Zero configuration tool and the Intel connection tool (not familiar with intel's...
Which Router/Acsess point are you using? And what kind of wireless card does yor laptop have? Also check if MAC filtering is enabled, and either add your laptops MAC adress or disable it.
Most wireless routers can do this, it's called "client mode". The router connects to your AP as a client and gives the 4 lan ports acsess to the network. The WRT54G does this very well and would work well with your current WRT54GS. I would suggest getting your self one of those. But i'm sure...
